*Luisa said giving her own mother a stern look that would make alma proud if she wasn't currently screaming at the townspeople meeting*

Alma's version of that day

*Alma woke up with tears on her face, she sat down on her bed and cleaned the tears of her face, she ended up covering her face with her hands and weeping a little remembering that dream*

Alma's mind

Little Bruno:Mami, Mami look!

*A much younger alma looked at her only son running towards her. His nervous smile always present on his face, he stopped running and looked up to her with his hands behind his back*

Younger alma:brunito, what do you have behind your hands? Please, if it's another one of those rats please don't show me

*Alma said a little pale, out of all the animals in the world, her son had to like Filthy fleas infested rats. Bruno just smiled and presented what he had in his hands and it was a pair of earrings*

Bruno:I made this for you!

Alma;oh?

*Alma said lightly surprised as she takes the pair of earrings and looks at them they were done impressively well for someone so young*

Alma:Bruno, how did you do this?

Bruno:oh, I asked for help from the your friend Jane Doe, she's a jeweler and agreed to teach me how to make them. I also made a pair for Pepa and Julieta, I'm gonna go give it to them!

*Bruno left running away, alma smiled softly looking at them, she turned around and looked at Bruno. Her heart started pounding, her frown started sweating as a deep sense of fear started to grow inside of her seeing her son get father and father away in a white void, alma raised her hand and tried to yell his name but no words would come out. The beating of her heart started beating louder and louder becoming deafening to her ears, she couldn't feel her legs move as her brunito became older and older, more and more she saw that bright smile of him quickly disappearing, until he turned around and in a instant he was right in front of alma. Looking at her with a most haunting expression for a mother to see her child in such a state*

*those eyes, those eyes that once held wonder and happiness, now all she could see was an unending sadness*

Bruno:it's for the good of the encanto right Mami?

*Bruno grabbed her hand and slowly lifted up, alma looked down and those earrings turned into a knife, Alma's brain was screaming but her body wouldn't respond to her. Her eyes looked up at Bruno and he was smiling as blood started coming down his mouth, as he made alma stab him.*

Back to the real world

*Alma managed to compose herself and sit down on her make-up vanity table, she starts doing her make up for the day, and finished off putting on those same earrings as the ones on her dream. She took a deep breath looking at herself in the mirror, she looked down and frowned as a rat was looking up at her*

Alma;your still an ugly creature

*Alma said softly as she gently grabbed the white rat with red eyes otherwise knowned as ratatin*

Alma:I can't fathom why he ever liked you vile creatures but...I guess your fur is soft, and eyes are... interesting

*Alma muttered as she petted the rat on the head, the rat squeak and alma had to admit it the sound was kinda cute, she flinched when she heard the door being knocked*

*alma let the rat back on the floor and walked out seeing Mirabel knocking on Luisa's door*

Alma:good morning Mirabel

Mirabel:oh, good morning abuela. Your up early today

*Mirabel said with her default fake smile, alma smiled back at her not seeing anything fake about it*

Alma:yes, I have a meeting with the others of the town leadership

Mirabel"ah, having tea with your friends Gotha"

*Mirabel though, but unlike Dolores she could never tell abuela something like that out loud*

Mirabel:ah, I hope you have a good that with them then.

Alma:I don't think I will, we'll be talking about a lot of serious concern. Related to that, you can let everyone sleep today. No one has any work

*Mirabel eyes widen as alma walked down to grab a cup of coffee before going. Mirabel followed her*

Mirabel:I'm sorry, I'm sorry, did you just say that the family is getting a day off

Alma:indeed I did

*Alma said not facing Mirabel, if she was Mirabel could see the sadness in her eyes, her dream about Bruno really messed with her*

Mirabel:I...wow, that's great. I don't think this family ever had a day off all at once

Alma:well, not all at once. Isabela and Camilo still have to take care of the donkeys , speaking of which Osvaldo should be here in 5....4....3....2....1.

Osvaldo: MADRIGALS THE DONKEYS GOT OUT!!!

*Alma had an amused smile hearing her youngest granddaughter snicker at that. Alma took a quiet breath of relief when she heard Mirabel climbing up the stairs*

Mirabel:I'll get Camilo and Isabela to wake up, enjoy your coffee abuela

Alma:gracias mirabel,

Mirabel:besame, besame mucho...

*Alma stopped her walk to the kitchen when she heard Mirabel singing softly as she walked to the second floor*

Mirabel:como si fuera la noche, la última vez....

Scene change

*Alma opened the door to the meeting and saw the other 8 people that run the encanto, Maria, victoria, Lucia, april, Conan, Jimmy, Josh, Austin and Troy*

Austin:ah alma, thank you for coming. Sorry it's such short notice,

Alma:it's fine, I have a feeling I know what this is about

*Alma said with a sigh as she sat down she looked around at her friends and waited*

Austin: the people of encanto have been complaining an awful lot about your... New rules of the gift

Alma:yes. It's come to my attention that the people of this village has been abusing far too much my family's generosity.

*Alma eyes twitched as Conan coughed to get the attention in the room, alma shot him a small disgusting glare, even after so long alma still hated this man*

Conan:come on alma, it's not that bad. Everyone has to pull the weight in order to make the encanto a better place to live in

Alma:This coming from the man that failed to warn us of the warlords?

*Conan and alma glared at each other. Both having lost there loved ones so many decades before*

Troy:now now, lets all calm down, we're all over 70. Let's act as such

Lucia:look, the way people are using the gifts are far too much, there not machines. There humans. What gonna happen if one of them suddenly dies from overwork or heat exhaustion?

*Alma eyes widen a little all her time she has never even considered that as a possibility*

Josh: isn't that a bit extreme? We don't work them that hard

Victoria:didn't you make Luisa move your home 8 god damned times before you found the right hill? That poor girl couldn't feel her arms after she finished

*Alma shot josh a glare that he ignored as he waved his hand dismissively*

Josh:she was all better when she ate Julieta's food so what's the harm? Honestly. The real problem is that my workers aren't getting enough food from Julieta, how are they to build things if there worried of getting hurt, or dying of exhaustion?

Alma:oh, but it's ok for my daughter to die of exhaustion? For heaven sake my daughter has to wake up at 3 in the morning to make food for people who aren't even sick !

*Alma screamed as he slammed her fist on the table, Conan tried to calm things down*

Conan:we understand that can be difficult but it's for the good of the encanto, if it helps she can just make the food and someone else gives them out

Alma:or better yet, if it helps you can go fu....

*Victoria placed her hand on Alma's shoulder to calm her down. Alma took a breath and gave the people there a cold glare*

Alma:if the people of this town have such a problem with the changes maybe we should just stop all together

Austin:now now, let's all calm down

*Austin said as he raised his hands to calm people down. Alma scoffed and crossed her arms*

Alma: I'm not gonna bloody calm down. My family started the encanto, it's high Time the people of this village started being more self sufficient, I'm telling you all here and now, I'm open to negotiate but I'm not gonna force my family to work as much as they have before

*Alma wished she could say that they all agreed and went on with there days. But no,*

April:but what about the people of the orphanage they need the food more then your workers!

* they spend the next 7 hours yelling, arguing, things being thrown, and a hair away from coming to blows before they all finally settled on a more reasonable work time*

At sunset

*Dolores took a breath as she grab hold of Mirabel's hand, Mirabel helps her up and both stand there looking at the setting sun on top of the cliff*

Dolores:my god the view is beautiful, we walked all of that?

Mirabel:we did, and there's still like 2 more days of walking.

*Mirabel smirked a bit seeing Dolores pale a little, Mirabel turned around and walked ahead. Dolores stood there for a bit more just enjoying the sight*

Dolores"I walked all of that"

*Dolores thought feeling a bit of pride on herself, she shook her head and hurried up next to Mirabel. Dolores looked up unsure as Mirabel took her to a cave, she grabbed hold of Mirabel's hand and Mirabel gave it a squeeze to make her feel safer. as they go deeper into the cave, Dolores saw camping equipment*

Dolores: we'll be sleeping here?

Mirabel:yup, it gets absurdly cold outside, I think that's abuelo making sure people don't find the encanto, but that's just a theory

*Dolores hummed as her hand started getting cold, Mirabel let go of it and started building a fire, Dolores with nothing to do just sat down and watched her work again*

Dolores:you know how to do a lot of things

Mirabel:well, that's because I've had time to practice it. Instead of chores of being lazy I learned to be a jack of all traits. Of course Luisa prefers the term 'mary Sue'

*Dolores snorted at that and Mirabel puffed her cheeks in anger, she gave a cute pout to Dolores who couldn't stop chuckling*

Mirabel:keep laughing and I won't be sharing the sleeping bag

Dolores:I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I really am trying here. Oh that already feels better

*Dolores said as the cave began to get warmer, Mirabel sat down next to Dolores and passed her some dried meat and water*

Mirabel:there's a lake on the other side of the mountain, tomorrow we'll eat fresh meat, but for now just emergency rations, water and some dried mango pieces

Dolores: I'm sorry

*Mirabel looked at dolores with a raised eyebrow and she just shrugged looking at the fire*

Dolores:I'm not dumb Mirabel, I know that I'm slowing you down, I also know that all the good food we ate on the way over here

Mirabel:true. But I'm not gonna get angry over that, Dolores your new at this kind of stuff, why would I blame you for that?

*Dolores just shrugged as she ate some of the meats, she smiled a little when she felt Mirabel hug her shoulder, rubbing it a little*

Mirabel:it's gonna be ok, we'll fish, forage for some fruits and roots, and we'll be fine. Once we make it to San Jose I'll resupply, I'll also show you the sights, who knows maybe it'll give you the adventure bug to come with me to Italy this summer

Dolores:maybe, still all this just feels like a dream you know? Sometimes a good dream and sometimes bad, I still can't believe all the things you've been able to do while I'm stuck in my room hearing people have sex

*Dolores snickered when Mirabel did a spit take of her water, mirabel coughed a bit and looked at her shocked*

Mirabel: you what?!!

Dolores:I'm so glad I've got the earmuffs on or that would've hurt. Yup, super hearing Mira, I hear everything. Imagine it a little 5 year old girl finding out what sex is because it's "for the good of the encanto"

*Dolores said mimicking alma's voice, Mirabel suddenly lost her appetite*

Dolores:yeah, you can see why I'm not too keen on forgiving any of them? Also again thank you for the earmuffs, you have no idea what a life saver they've been. I can finally sleep normally

*Dolores said with a wobbly smile and misty eyes, she rested her head on Mirabel's shoulder and both just smiled enjoying the moment*

Dolores:so, how's San Jose like?

Mirabel;sorry I'm not gonna spoil it for you,

*Mirabel said with a teasing grin, Dolores playfully rolled her eyes*

Mirabel:but for real, it's absolutely nothing like encanto. Encanto is like a Time Bubble to a time before the world wars

Dolores:wait, wars? What are you talking about?

*Dolores said surprised, Mirabel just nodded affirming what she already knew, encanto really was stuck in a 1900's bubble in time being isolated from the world*

Mirabel:see? Right there, time bubble. Outside of the encanto the diffrent nations of the worlds went to war twice, at the moment the strongest nations are north America and Russia.

Dolores: how do you know this?

*Dolores asked surprised, mirabel shrugged and had a small grin on her face*

Mirabel:Luisa likes to read romance novels, Isabela likes adventures novels, Camilo westerns stories. I prefer history, and boy did a lot of history happen in the last couple of decades

Dolores:I think I'm gonna be like you, I want to learn more.

*Dolores muttered, but Mirabel heard her. It made her feel a sense of happiness, that she and Dolores will have something they can both enjoy*

Mirabel: I'll get you some books on it when I'm getting Luisa the new book. Did you know that the world even went into a depression a few decades ago?

Dolores: seriously? Wow. Maybe you should be a teacher

*Dolores said sincerely, Mirabel gave a small giggle and waved her hand dismissively*

Mirabel: I've considered it, but no. Seamstress is the road for me, it's my passion

Dolores:that's nice that you have that

*Dolores said thinking of herself, and her passion. She honestly didn't know what she wanted to do with her life*

Dolores"I've been doing those damned chores for so long, what do I want to do with my life, what do I want to be my legacy?"

Mirabel:maybe, or maybe you should be a teacher, I'm sure you would be great at it. Anyway what do you think the family is doing

*Mirabel asked taking Dolores out of her thoughts of what she wanted in life, Dolores shrugged, she took out the earmuff and she could just make out the voices of there family, but it was like listening to a rat behind a wall*

Dolores; they should be having dinner right about now, how do you think it's going?

Mirabel:with lots of screaming, I'm gonna have to buy Luisa some candy or something.

*Mirabel said with a small giggle imagining Pepa and Julieta's reaction, to Mirabel taking Dolores to see a whole new world. Dolores hummed then a question popped into her head*

Dolores:wait, how are you gonna pay? They've told us that you repeatedly work for free

Mirabel:I do favors for free, I work as a seamstress for money, hell more then half the clothes of the encanto minus the ones in Casita, are clothes I made.

*Mirabel said with a proud smile, she even puffed her chest out and slammed her fist on set chest, Dolores rolled her eyes playfully finding Mirabel's antics amusing*

Mirabel:Why do you think I hunt so much? I need leather and fur, I can promise you if it clothes I make, they pay me.

Dolores:I'm guessing Lucia isn't too happy about the competition?

*Dolores asked talking about the old seamstress of the encanto, Mirabel shrugged as she picked on the fire with a stick*

Mirabel:eh, I give her a taste of the money, and she let's me do what I want. It's kinda the same as the relationship of the old towns doctor Victoria and Mama. Mom took away all her clients, but alma makes sure that Victoria gets paid so she's not in the streets

Dolores:so again we do all the work, but alma gets all the credit and cash that doesn't belong to her

*Dolores said bitterly, Mirabel gave her the stick and Dolores started to pick at the fire finding it oddly relaxing*

Mirabel:I mean I wouldn't go that far, Lucia was the one who taught me how to make clothes, even taught me what plants gives me what color for my dye colors. So it's more of a tax more then a demand, but oh is she gonna be green with envy when she feels the silk my friend is gonna give me,

Dolores:you mean in exchange for pimping out your own sister

*Mirabel pushed Dolores playfully, Dolores snickered at her and kept eating*

Dolores:why did you ask him for silk?

Mirabel:....well I can't use Mom's old dress it wouldn't fit me. And I sure as hell don't want it after Isabela uses it

*Dolores looked confused for a moment before she realized what Mirabel was talking about. She coughed a bit and concentrated her gaze at the fire*

Dolores:right. Since your wearing a dress, maybe I should ware a suit. Heh bet that would make Pepa go wild, instead of wearing her wedding dress I wear a suit and tie. Maybe I'll make the tie blue instead of yellow to symbolizes that I'm moving away from her branch

Mirabel:god your petty, in my case, I want the red silk to symbolizes that I'm gonna be part of the red part of the family

*Dolores blushed a bit at that she didn't considered mirabel losing the blue of her clothes and swap them for her red.*

Dolores:I...imagine that you'll make a fantastic dress

Mirabel:I hope so, I mean I've helped fix wedding dresses. But I've never made one. I'm scared but also like exited for the challenge. Anyway the food is gone, and the moon is up. Let's head to sleep it's only gonna get colder

*Mirabel grabbed Dolores hand and guided her to the sleeping bag, Dolores looked at the bag and then at Mirabel who sighed with a nod, they didn't have to talk to know the problem*

Mirabel: I know it's not that big, but it's what we got, we can't sleep without it I'm not gonna risk you getting sick from the cold, so let's just get this over with

*Dolores nodded and both got inside the sleeping bag, it was a bit of a tight fit, but both of them made it work, they ended up cuddling together to stay warm*
