Chapter Two
"I can tell that we are going to be friends,"
After Alyssa left, Lia couldn't help but feel defeated. It had only been a day, and besides the nice student at the tent and Ozzie; whom she met when she arrived, she hadn't really had the chance to encounter anyone else. Well, not including the RA, who was in fact named Sarah. She was a really pretty black-haired girl, someone who looked like they belonged in a Disney movie if anything.
Now that her best friend was gone, she sat alone in her dorm room by herself. She was free to roam around campus and tour it a little more than she had when she had her official tour months ago, but she felt too awkward to try and walk around on her own. She knew she'd get lost, and she'd rather just save the embarrassment of having to get help to find her way back to her room.
Besides, everything she truly needed was in here. She had no idea till she saw the dorm herself that she'd managed to get one of the bigger-styled dorms, ones that were almost in a way a mini-apartment. The more she thought about it, the more she realized that she should start calling it that instead of a dorm room.
When you first enter the mini apartment, you're greeted with the smallest entryway. If you look to your right you see a small living area, the only piece of furniture being the mini-fridge Lia had brought with her to college along with her round cushion chair that her father drove up with a couple of other things when they had found out how much room she really had.
There was a bedroom to the left and the right of the living area, which Lia took home on the left side. It was slightly smaller than the other room, but she didn't mind as she only really just needed closet space more than anything. The furniture that came in the bedrooms were the usual tiny-sized beds, a desk, a dresser, and the wardrobes. This left enough room for her bookshelf and her vanity, which was another one of the items her father had driven up for her.
If you go back into the living room, there's a random counter with a sink in it close to the front door. This was probably for if they needed to wash any dishes they might have, or who knows what really. Lia just saw it as more space for her and her unknown roomie to set things.
When you pass the random sink, there's a door leading to a small bathroom. When Lia first heard about the dorms at Blackmore University, she assumed it was going to be the kinds she saw in movies. Those consisted of the tiniest room known to man, only big enough to hold two beds, two dressers, and two desks. This was more than she could imagine, as she thought she'd have to use a bathroom and share it with an entire hall of girls.
Looking through the bathroom, it was just big enough for a small sink, toilet, and shower. On the other wall opposite the door you walk in, there's another door showing that they would be sharing this bathroom with whoever was roomed next to them.
Lia didn't mind, obviously, as this was better than sharing with over ten girls. Plus it just gave her more of an excuse to become a hermit in the room, as when she said everything she needed was here, it was true.
The sound of the doorknob turning caught her attention, and she glanced up to see a blonde girl struggling to bring all of her belongings in. Two older people walked in behind her, helping the girl carry in her things.
"This place is so great!" The blonde squealed, and Lia took this moment to observe what she looked like.
She had about shoulder-length blonde hair, the roots a dark brown indicating that she wasn't a natural blonde. The color still looked good on her and seemed to compliment her complexion really well. She was short, especially compared to Lia's 5'7 frame. Her curves also seemed to be the opposite of Lia, who was slender. She was really pretty, and Lia couldn't help but gawk at the girl's beauty.
Finally, the blonde took notice of the girl sitting alone in the living room. "You're Lia." She spoke matter-of-factly.
"Yeah, you must be-"
"Your roomie for the year, yeah." The girl responded as she sat some of her things down to the side. "I'm Amanda, but you can call me Mandy."
"It's nice to meet you," Lia spoke as she shut the book in her hands, finding no interest in it anymore. It's not like she was getting much reading done anyway considering her mind had been wandering about anything and everything.
"Nice to meet you too, which room did you claim?" Amanda asked, motioning her pointer finger from side to side.
Lia glanced at the many rings on her finger before back up at the girl, her eyes already on her. She motioned a hand to her right, pointing to Amanda's left. "That one."
"Perfect! I see you didn't bring much to put in the front room," Her voice muffled slightly as she began to toss her suitcases in the other room.
Lia didn't respond at first, waiting until Amanda came back into view. "I didn't realize that there was an entire front room, so I wasn't prepared." She shrugged, "My dad brought a couple of things up after we realized how much room was in here, but I just didn't feel the need to bring more."
"Well, I'm glad that they informed me what type of dorm I'd be living in because I would have probably cried if I found out after driving all the way here." Amanda rested her hands on her hips, "I want to get everything in as soon as possible." She then turned to the other people who had come in with her, the older woman nodding almost immediately.
"We'll go down and begin grabbing the rest of the stuff for you, I believe the helpers are currently getting the big stuff."
"Perfect! I will start separating and stuff," Amanda said, waving a short goodbye to the couple. She then turned back to Lia, a small smile on her face. "That's my mom and dad, by the way." She pointed a thumb behind her, causing Lia to nod.
"They seem nice."
"Very," Amanda responded. "Any certain way you'd like the living room to look?"
"No, I'm not picky." Lia shook her head.
"You don't say?" Amanda questioned, a mischievous smirk resting on her face.

"Have you met anyone else?" Amanda asked Lia as they walked to the dining hall.
The redhead just shook her head, glancing at the ground as she walked side by side with her roommate. "No, not really. Just the people who helped me move in, then Sarah of course."
"You said you've been here how many days?" Amanda asked yet another question.
"Three days. I kinda have stayed to myself, honestly." Lia said. She messed with her new ID card, one she'd gotten when she and Amanda had gone to one of the buildings on campus to get everything they needed.
The last few days while everyone's arrived, in one of the buildings on campus they're holding a section all day so if you're needing your photo taken for your ID, any textbooks, schedule changes, and basically anything else to finish tying up the finishing touches on the new school year. Lia had procrastinated on going, finally getting the guts to once she and Amanda had spent a few hours together, getting to know each other.
"I can tell," Amanda spoke. "Not meaning that in a bad way, just can tell by the way you refuse to look at anything other than me and the floor."
Amanda sent a playful smile to Lia, who just blushed in response.
They walked a little bit longer, as they had decided to take the scenic route to where their destination would be. Lia continued to listen to Amanda talk about whatever came to mind, listening carefully as she got to know the girl more. She was glad she was roomed with someone like Amanda, as since they'd only known each other for a bit she felt comfortable near her. Amanda didn't seem all that crazy, or someone like Leighton Meester's character in The Roommate.
Maybe Lia watches too many movies, but at least that makes her very self-aware that something like that could truly happen.
The sudden feeling of a body hitting hers caught her out of her thoughts, sudden embarrassment flowing through Lia's entire body as she realized what had just happened. She had been too busy paying attention to the ground below her that she hadn't realized Amanda stepped to the side due to someone walking in front of them.
"Oh, shit. I'm sorry," A soft voice spoke from in front of her, and it was then Lia realized someone had their arms wrapped around her to prevent her from falling to the ground.
Glancing up, her blush grew a deeper shade of red as she was met with deep brown eyes. She opened her mouth to say something and failed, almost too caught up in the beautiful boy standing in front of her.
"No, we're sorry." Amanda's voice cut in from behind Lia. She grabbed Lia's arm, pulling her out of the grip of the unknown boy standing in front of her. "My friend here is clumsy."
"No-no I should- I should have been watching where I was going," Lia finally stuttered out as if Amanda hadn't spoken. "I'm sorry."
"Don't be sorry," The boy spoke with a smile, finally retracting his arms. He had a light pink tint to his cheeks as he stared between the two girls, seeming to not know what to say.
"I'm Amanda," Amanda decided to speak. "This is Lia."
The boy's eyes lingered on the redhead before glancing over to the blonde, his eyes seeming to fly right back to Lia's. "Ethan," He finally said, seeming nervous all of a sudden. "Uh, Ethan Lan-Landry." He held his hand out.
Amanda sent a smirk to Lia, noticing the starstruck look on the girl's face. She kicked her in the calf slightly, breaking Lia's eyes away from Ethan's.
When Lia looked back, however, Amanda avoided eye contact, maintaining her bright smile on the boy. She looked back ahead of her, seeing the boy begin to retract his hand as nobody bothered to shake it.
She then shot her hand outward, grabbing his hand almost a little too tight. It was very obvious she was smitten and embarrassed, Amanda taking notice almost immediately. Lia moved her hand only slightly, seeming to hold his hand in hers instead of shaking it like you would when meeting someone.
"Lia," She spoke, before realization hit her features. "She just said that. Sorry." Glancing down, she felt nothing but warmth from the boy's hand.
She finally let go, clearing her throat as she put her hands to her sides. Her fingertips danced along her thighs, feeling like she wanted to be anywhere except for where she currently stood.
Usually, Lia wasn't the type to be this nervous. Obviously, she'd had the experience of her old high school, but the majority of the people knew each other almost their entire lives. Not including new students, she didn't have to constantly meet new people the way she was needing to at college. Besides, she couldn't even pinpoint exactly why she felt so nervous and so she just blamed it on the fact that she'd clumsily run into him.
She'd be embarrassed if she ran into anyone, even if it was someone she previously knew from school.
At least that's what she told herself.
"Anyways, Ethan. It was nice to meet you but we were currently on our way to get food," Amanda finally spoke up, grabbing Lia's arm.
She began pulling her along, Lia just maintaining eye contact with the boy in front of her. Her body seemed to pull back slightly, her mouth open wide as she tried to find a polite way to say goodbye to the boy.
"Will I see you guys around?" Ethan asked, causing Amanda to stop in her tracks. "Like, I don't know, friendly faces?"
"Uh-"
"Depends, are you cool?" Amanda asked, turning her attention back to the boy who was now standing behind them.
"I-I don't know how to answer that without sounding like an asshole," Ethan answered honestly, pursing his lips together. "What if I say no?"
"Then you're perfect," Amanda said, smiling her signature smile. "We'll see you around, loser."
Ethan just smiled in response, raising his eyebrows for a split second. Lia continued to glance between Amanda and Ethan, not seeming to know how to add to the conversation happening in front of her.
Without another word, Amanda looped her arm through Lia's. She pulled her along toward the mess hall, the smile never leaving her features as Lia continuously glanced back at the boy. Ethan, however, had walked off in the opposite direction, seeming to almost instantly forget about the awkward interaction.
Finally facing forward, Lia let out a deep breath as she looked ahead of her so she didn't trip over someone again.
She stole a quick glance toward her roommate, who had already been stealing glances at her. "What?" She asked, her voice quiet from embarrassment.
"Could you have made it any more obvious that you were into him?!"

Chapter two! I'm really liking how this is going so far. I have so much planned on top of what happens in the movie, and I already have so many ideas omg. The photo pinned at the very top of the chapter is the layout I used for inspiration for what the dorms look like. The only difference is that there's another door on the side where the shower is, so just imagine that the shower is against the wall closest to the bottom of the photo. Also, all the shelves in the layout aren't there, minus the desk, dresser, and wardrobe. I kinda explained it so you get what I mean lol.
