Chapter Twenty

"When the night was full of terrors, and your eyes were filled with tears,"

"So not only were two Blackmore students murdered on top of a professor, but Sam and Tara were attacked?" Amanda asked in disbelief.

"Sounds like you covered it," Ozzie said with a nod. He glanced at Lia, whose leg bounced up and down in anxiety. He just sighed, walking over and sitting down next to her.

"What if one of us is next?"

"Why would they attack us? Clearly, they're attacking people who are involved with Tatum, Chad, Mindy, Sam, and Tara." Joshua said, stealing the bag of chips from Amanda's hand.

"My dad's getting himself involved in the case, guys." Lia shook her head, "I'm not supposed to be saying anything but it looks like it's based on everything that's happened in Woodsboro. Starting with Sidney Prescott."

"Isn't that Tatum Kincaid's mother?" Jenny Bennett asked. She hadn't been seen much around the friend group, simply due to the fact that she was often hanging around with Savannah Bright.

The same Savannah Bright that did anything to make Lia's life a living hell.

"Unfortunately, yes." Joshua pointed a finger her way.

"Not unfortunately, just yes," Lia muttered.

"Well, it all started with her mother, right? And now the attention has seemed to switch over to the Woodsboro group, specifically Sam and Tara. Why don't we just keep our distance and hope for the best?" Joshua asked.

"It's nice to know you're not only stupid when it comes to love," Cleo muttered to the boy, rolling her eyes as she sat on the floor next to the full couch.

"What did Professor Laura have to do with Sam and Tara?" Lia asked as she stood up, crossing her arms over her chest. "Since we're talking about how it involves only around them?"

"Or-or Jason or Greg!" Amanda then exclaimed, "I think Mindy said she had one class with them, and although Jason found himself trying to talk to Tara quite a bit nothing ever came out of it."

"I think everyone's fair game. After talking to Mindy and my father about previous Woodsboro massacres, I think at this point anyone can fall victim. Even us, whether close with the Carpenter sisters or not." Lia explained, "We just have to look out for each other, even if it means staying close."

"Well, I hate to burst your bubble but who has a place big enough for everyone to stay at?" Ozzie asked, a sour look on his face. "I mean, just alone in this dorm there's only seven of us and it's a bit of a crowd. When we all went to Sam's apartment with their group plus ours - not including Jonah and Jenny, there was barely any room for us to sit and watch a movie. How would we sleep?"

"We can always split up. You said it yourself, Oz, as long as we're not alone. When it was just Ethan and me the other night you told me to just lock ourselves here and stay safe." Lia held her hands out, "And that was only two of us."

"Statistically speaking, if there's one killer and a mere total of thirteen of us including Jenny, then that Ghostfuck killer has no chance against us." Joshua offered, looking at everyone else in agreement. "No?"

"Josh, have you even seen the Stab movies?" Amanda asked, her brows furrowed together.

"Mandy the movies are nothing like what happens in real life," Lia said.

"But isn't it based on that bitch reporter's book?" She asked.

"Gale Weathers is her name, and yes. But that doesn't mean it's what truly happened," Lia responded.

"Plus everything is dramatized for entertainment purposes," Ozzie said. "That being said we really shouldn't base real life off of a lousy movie."

"So what do we do then?" Cleo asked with a soft voice.

"I say we just continue on about our lives," Joshua said. "I'm going to continue living, and you should too."

"That's so fucking stupid, Josh." Jonah rolled his eyes.

"What? I barely talk to the Carpenter sisters, let alone their friend group. Why would the killer target me?" He asked, wiping his hands on his pants.

"Well Laura, Jason, and Greg talked to them even less than you and now they're dead," Lia answered.

"Hear me out," Amanda said. "What if we just stuck by them instead of pushing them away? I mean especially if either way the killer's going to go after whoever they choose to go after, the more the merrier."

"It's almost like I've been saying that this entire time," Ozzie spoke as he sent Amanda a look, who just flipped him off in return.

"You guys can choose what you want to do, I don't even know why I'd come here in the first place." Jenny picked her purse up off the ground in front of her. "I have plans and I'm not letting some sadistic maniac ruin them."

Lia just stared at her, partially grateful she'd decided to leave. She had nothing against Jenny personally, but ever since the Bennett twin began hanging around Savannah, she shifted her attitude toward her. She seems to be taking in everything Savannah's ever told her about Lia, believing every word without getting the Murphy girl's side first.

"Come, on, Jenny!" Jonah called out after his sister. He followed her out of the dorm room, the two disappearing down the staircase as they began a bit of a sibling argument.

"So much for sticking together," Cleo muttered.

"I think I'm going to go to the Carpenter apartment." Amanda held a finger up, "I don't give two shits on what anyone says. It's three Blackmore attendees dead, being on campus is the worst idea to exist."

Ozzie and Lia shared a look, the boy just rolling his eyes. "Fine, let's go."

"I don't think I want to go," Lia admitted.

"What?" Cleo asked, "Did you not just hear and talk about all that shit on staying together?"

"Just the idea of leaving anywhere at all, even if it means going to other people freaks me out." She told them, rubbing her hands together. "I'm all for being together and I don't take my word back on that, but we could get attacked by simply leaving the room."

"What makes you think we're any safer in here?" Ozzie asked, "At least at Sam's there's an entire apartment of people, plus actual weapons in case someone does attack us."

"You know what, fine! We'll go but I guarantee it's the stupidest idea I've ever heard." Lia waved her hands in frustration, stalking off to her room to gather a few things.

Nobody said anything, and instead, Cleo and Amanda walked into Amanda's room so the blonde could get ready. Joshua just shrugged as he sat back down on the couch, Ozzie rolling his eyes in return as he followed the redhead into the room.

"Ozzie, I don't think I can do this," Lia admitted almost instantly, "What if someone I love gets hurt?"

"We won't," He assured.

"How can you be so sure? And don't say the whole 'I won't let anything happen to you bullshit'. I've heard it from Ethan, but the last thing I want is someone sacrificing their own life for mine." She pointed at her chest, her breathing deepening slightly. "It was cute hearing it and all, but knowing that it's something that could actually happen kills me at the simple idea of it coming true."

"Lia, we're going to be okay," Ozzie said, stepping closer to her.

"You can't guarantee that!" She exclaimed, "You cannot guarantee that. Until they catch whoever this is, anyone can get hurt. Tara and the others lost people they loved so much."

"That doesn't mean it's going to happen this time," Ozzie denied. "We don't know how far along they are. Just because your dad says they don't have too much of a lead doesn't mean anything. He can't tell you every detail or it'll ruin the case."

"But the killer's still out there, whether they have a lead or not." Lia shook her head, "I may have gotten lucky in the sense of not having to deal with the heartbreak and grief from when my mother died, but I would not be able to handle it if you or anyone else died."

Ozzie sighed, not knowing what to say. He'd said everything he could to calm her down, but nothing seemed to be working. He just leaned forward, pulling her into his arms. She gladly took his hug, feeling as if her entire world had come crashing down.

Nobody close to her had even died yet, but she could feel that this was far from over. More killings were going to happen, and there was nothing she could do about it.

"It's going to be okay, Li." Ozzie placed a gentle kiss on the top of her head, rocking them back and forth slightly.

Lia didn't say anything, knowing that there was nothing else to say. They stood like that for a good few moments before Lia finally pulled away, going to grab her belongings.

When the two were ready, the five walked out of the dorms. The walk was quiet, minus whatever conversation Cleo and Amanda were having. They had somehow managed to begin joking around, their minds not on the fact that there was a killer running wild.

Ozzie lingered back with Lia at first, before finally making his way to Cleo and Amanda to join in on their conversation. This left Joshua and Lia side-by-side, neither of them saying anything to the other.

Lia pulled her phone out, sending Ethan a text.

Lia:

Are you safe?

Ethan:

Currently getting ready to go into Econ, I'll be okay honey. Are you safe?

Lia:

With Oz, Mandy, Cleo, and Josh now heading to Sam's.

"So you and-and that Ethan boy, huh?" Joshua asked, causing Lia to look up from her phone.

"What?" She asked.

"You and Ethan, you're like-"

"Uh, I'm not sure." Lia cut the boy off once she realized where he'd been heading with the question. "Sort of?"

"Sort of?" Joshua asked, looking over at Lia. "You know, I-"

Lia looked over in confusion, her eyes widening as she saw red. "J-Josh," She muttered, tears immediately clouding her vision.

He grunted, the knife leaving the back of his body. Her eyes traveled behind the boy, to where a tall figure stood. They were dressed in the infamous Ghostface costume, and Lia watched in shock as the figure wiped the blood from the knife.

"Joshua!"

This caught the attention of the other three, who immediately looked at the scene in concern. Ghostface took a couple of steps toward the group, the latter immediately beginning to run in that direction.

Seeming to forget about Lia, she took her chance in grabbing onto the boy. He was bleeding out, the knife had stabbed right through his torso. Blood trickled down his nose and lips, and he barely worked with Lia as she tried to get him up.

"Josh you need to help me-" She begged with a sob, clinging onto his arm. His blood immediately soaked into her skin and clothing, the girl struggling to limp away from the scene.

"Lia- Lia," Joshua muttered, "You- you need to go get out of here."

"No, no- no no I'm not leaving you!" Lia cried, struggling to get them five steps.

She glanced behind her, seeing that Ghostface had now turned his attention away from the others, and back at the girl.

"Lia, he's going to kill you," Joshua begged, his eyes rolling back for a moment. "Leave and go get help."

"But he's going to kill you before I get back," She cried, half-dragging his body away from the scene.

"He's going to find you if I'm with you," He struggled to say.

Glancing back, she saw Ghostface seemed to be amused by the scene in front of him. He- or she, had their head tilted sideways, walking excruciatingly slow behind the couple. They dangled the knife in front of them, the light from one of the nearby street poles glaring off of the steel.

They were playing with Lia, and she knew it. Her eyes danced around the empty street, failing to find her friends anywhere. They left, running away from Lia and Joshua as soon as they saw the figure. She knew this, and so instead of calling for help, she just continued to pull the boy away from the scene.

"Lia!" Joshua exclaimed, using all of his strength. "Let me go before he kills you," He weakly pulled her arm off of him. He fell to the ground almost instantly, groaning in pain as she bent down next to him. "It's just a stab wound. Get help, and it'll be okay."

"You're dying, Joshua!" Lia exclaimed.

She ripped the bottom half of her sweater off, applying pressure to his stab wound. It wasn't doing much, considering he'd already bled out. She grabbed onto his hand, the blood smearing onto her palm. "Don't die, okay, I-I'll be right back I promise."

Lia leaned down, pressing a kiss to his forehead before shooting up from her spot. She looked back, seeing Ghostface put their attention on Joshua instead of her. They glanced up at her, tilting the knife back and forth before stepping on either side of Joshua.

"Josh!" She screamed out, salty tears running down her face. She watched as Joshua weakly fought against Ghostface, and before she could see the knife go down into his body once again, someone grabbed onto Lia's hand.

They pulled her away from the scene, her feet moving with her body before she could think twice. Looking over, she saw Ozzie gripping her roughly, opposite from his usual gentle demeanor.

"Ozzie, we need to help Joshu-"

"We need to save ourselves first, Lia." He cut her off, knowing what she was going to say.

"He- he stabbed him!" Lia exclaimed, continuing to follow her best friend anyway.

Ozzie didn't say anything, tears stinging his eyes as he continued to run. He stopped behind a bush, pulling Lia down and out of sight from anyone who was to pass by. "I need you to stay here," He told her.

"Don't- don't leave me, Ozzie," She begged. She was in complete shock, her face sweaty and her body bloody from her friend. "I couldn't- I couldn't save him. He's dead- Joshua's dead."

"Shh!" Ozzie covered a hand over her mouth, glancing through an empty whole in the bush.

He watched as the Ghostface looked around, seeming to look for them. He nodded his head in the direction where Ghostface stood, Lia's eyes widening in shock as she realized this was far from over.

She felt defeated, and tears streamed from her eyes, landing on Ozzie's hand which was still over her mouth. The last thing she wanted was to give away their hiding spot, and possibly cause more deaths than already happened.

The sound of distant police sirens caused the Ghostface to turn and run away, leaving Ozzie and Lia safe for the time being. Ozzie sighed in relief, removing his hand from Lia's mouth.

Sobs left her mouth almost instantly, her breathing beginning to halt as she hyperventilated. "H-he-" She couldn't get words out. She just cried as Ozzie relaxed on the dead grass below them.

He didn't hesitate to pull her into his arms, ignoring the metallic smell of Joshua's blood. He leaned against the building behind him, his breathing heavy as well.

Ozzie felt horrible. He had just promised Lia that everything would be okay not even an hour prior, and now she sat in her friend's blood. She watched Joshua die for the most part, and truly the only reason she left when she had was that Joshua made her.

He just stared at her, comforting her in the best way he could. His hands ran through her messy hair, his cheek pressed to the side of her head as he held her tightly.

"We got two more over here!"
