it runs in the family
.v
— "YOU BROKE HER NOSE AND KNOCKED LOOSE several teeth," Headmistress McGonagall says through gritted teeth nearly two hours later. The disheveled Sinclaire twins sat in front of her, looking not even the least bit guilty or apologetic, in fact, she thought they looked rather proud of themselves.
Maxwell Sinclaire (the elder of the two, by only an hour) sat with pursed lips, his arms crossed over his chest as he boredly stared at the floor. He had a tear in his uniform shirt and a scratch down his cheek, not to mention his hair was an unruly mess, the blonde and curly locks sticking out at odd intervals.
His twin, Davina, sat in the chair next to him, picking at the dried blood under her fingernails just as boredly as her brother beside her. Her legs were crossed, showing the scratches on her thighs and the tear in her skirt. Her shirt was untucked and stained with rust colored spots that had splattered onto her slytherin colored tie, which was messily pulled away from her shirt collar. Her hair looked to be in a worse state than her brothers, with crimson stains and her head band missing.
"And you..what were you even doing?" Maxwell opened his mouth to respond, but shut it almost instantly and shifts in his chair. Truthfully, he had only been trying to pull his sister off of Ginny Weasley the whole time. "Well, what do you have to say for yourselves?"
I'm unison the blonde twins look up at their headmistress, amused looks on their faces that told her they were thinking the exact same thing. it was often the same look that Harry Potter and Ron Weasley sported when they were about to get sarcastic with her.
She figured she ought to beat them to it. "Your father will be here in less than ten minuets, and im almost certain that your mother is right behind him." That seemed to wipe the smug looks right off of their faces, replacing them with cringed and looks of fear. "Maybe you'll feel more obliged to speak to them about the matter."
Davina is the first to push the fear back and sit up straight, what would normally be a charming smile on her currently uncharming face. "Are the parents really necessary?" She asks, a forced chuckle escaping her. This intrigued the ex-transfiguration professor. "I mean, it's my first serious offence in seven years, Professor," She had gained her brothers attention by this point, an amused smirk spreading across his face as he turns in his chair to face her. "Can't we just let me off with a warning and call it finished?"
McGonagall wasn't sure if she should cry or pull her hair out. "And what do you propose that I tell Molly and Arthur?" She asks, leaning against her desk as she glances at the clock behind the girls head. Their parents would be arriving any moment now. "That the girl who brought their son back to life, was walking past their only daughter when her fist simply slipped.. seventeen times?"
"I mean, if it works.. "
Maxwell had completely forgotten about the fact that Davina had restored life to the dead Fred Weasley near the end of the Battle of Hogwarts last year, and now felt guilty for his sisters doings. "Davina," He says, about to utter words that neither twin had ever spoken to each other. "kindly shut the bloody hell up."
Davina's mouth falls open, as does the professors and both women turn to stare at Maxwell. The young man had spoken not a moment too soon however, as merely seconds later the large fire in the mantle behind the desk turns a violent shade of green and both Sinclaire parents come tumbling out of it.
Rose and Redford seem frantic as they lock eyes on their children, husband and wife rudely pushing the aging witch out of the way to inspect their twins. "What happened, Davina?" Redford asks, trying to remain calm for his daughters sake as he inspects her. "Was it the Craven's? I'll kill them-"
"Mr. Sinclaire." Professor McGonagall grinds out, placing her hands sternly on her hips. She realized now that she probably should have been less vague in the howler she had sent them. "I can assure you that no harm was brought to your daughter that wasn't justified."
The look on Redford's face as he turned to face the headmistress was so chilling that even his wife got the slightest bit afraid. Davina felt her stomach sink as the woman draws herself up taller, and in a bid to save herself from getting in too much trouble, she does the only thing she can think of, or tries to anyway, the woman beats her too it. "Excuse me?"
Rose simply sighs looking at her son, she wasn't stupid. She knew that neither of them were seriously injured, which would mean that they had been the injurers.
"Your children launched an attack on Ginerva Weasley," She starts off, watching the fire in his eyes dim just slightly, feeling a little smug even as their mother gasps at her next words. "Unprovoked in the middle of the great hall." Davina squeezes her eyes closed as she listens, not wanting to relive it. "She broke the girls nose, and I still have house elves looking for her teeth by the way, because she heard a rumor that had spread about her and another student." Rose turned her glare at her daughter, arms folded over her chest and head cocked to the side.
the blonde bob she sported gave the beautiful woman a strict look that made even McGonagall shake a little in fear. "Your daughter is forever in the debt of the Weasley family, and they are more than thankful for what she did." McGonagall says. "I'm not saying that what Ginny did was right, but what your daughter did was far worse." She looked at the children and their parents. "They're not going to press charges, and neither is the Parkinson famil-"
"The Parkinson's?" Redford asks, head tilted angrily. He was a scary sort of calm right then.
"Yes, I'm afraid that there was an incident with Pansy as well, merely minuets before the one with Ginny." The Headmistress clears her throat, noticing the look the man's face. "Redford, there have been incidents over the years that have lead me to now believe that your children have explosive tempers-"
Redford slowly turns to his daughter, arms crossed over his chest and a look of absolute rage in his eyes. "Yes," He seethes, causing his wife to back away a few steps. "It runs in the family."
Davina takes a large gulp, a fear rising up inside of her that she had never felt before. "I love you, Daddy.." She squeaks in a bid to save herself from punishment. "I'm sorry.."
redford let his angry appearance drop, replacing it with care and concern as he looked at his daughter. "Oh, sweetheart, it's all right.." He says, surprising his son and daughter both, even his wife.
"Wait, really?" All three ask, McGonagall thinking the same.
"No it's not alright!" He screams, the anger now back in its rightful place. His voice wrung out across the room, causing all of its inhabitants to jump in fright. "You bloody imbeciles are in so much trouble!" He seethes, his voice an angry type of calm.
"Do you know how disappointed I am, Davina? " he asks, no longer yeling. Yelling wouldn't get him anywhere. "I expected so much more out of you.. and you-" He turns to his son as Davina sinks into her chair, a sick, gutted look on her face. Davina had never been called a disappointment before..
Maxwell clears his throat, feeling horrible for his sister as he was generally on the receiving end of that speech. "I was only trying to stop her, Dad, I promise.. I told you I would keep her out of trouble and that's what I'm trying to do.."
Redford doesn't know what to say, he was used punishing his son, not his little girl. "Yes, well..good boy." He says. "I'm proud of you, Son.." Davina sinks farther into her chair, feeling horrible. "Davina, you're to apologize to the girl and her family, and i want four hundred points from Slytherin awarded to Gryffindor and detentions every day for a month.." He looks at his wife, before looking back at his child. "And you're not to come home for Christmas, Davina or allowed any trips to hogsmeade.. I expect excellent marks at graduation as well. ." He turns to walk back to the fire, no longer angry but disappointed with his whole being. "Rose, let's go..We'll see you in december, Mac.."
The three were left in silence until long after the couple had gone, nobody daring to speak. Davina's head was hung, her eyes facing the floor as hot years flowed from them. Maxwell sat with a surprised look on his face, only moving once his sister cleared her throat.
"Well," She says, wiping her eyes. "That could have gone worse.. " She stood from her seat and faced the head mistress, fixing her rumpled appearence. "May I be excused? I should go apologize.."
McGonagall looks at the girl and clears her throat before sitting down at her chair behind the desk. "Detentions start tomorrow, Miss Sinclaire. " She says, watching as the girl leaves, leaving her brother to sit in front of her still..
"You don't think he meant it, do you?" He asks when she looks at him expectantly. "About the no hogsmeade and going home?"
" I'm afraid he meant it, Maxwell.. " She had trouble believing it herself
