Love Kills Slowly {6}
“We’re home!” Mrs. Polivka called as the door opened. She came in and smiled at us. “Charlie couldn’t sleep,” I explained. He and I were curled on the couch together watching Fox and the Hound.
“Mommy, Fuller’s angry again,” he whimpered. I had heard some crashing upstairs but had been too scared to see what it was. Another loud crash made Charlie jump a little and snuggle up to me more.
Mrs. Polivka paled a little as her husband came through the door. She nervously bit her lip. “Can I sleep in your room tonight mom?” Charlie begged. Mrs. Polivka sat down next to Charlie and kissed his forehead. “If it makes you feel better, I’ll sleep in your room Charlie. But only for tonight!”
Mr. Polivka walked in and smiled. “Hey Charlie! Why are you still up?” Another crash above us made Mr. Polivka jumped and looked up at the ceiling, anger exploding on his face. “Is Fuller angry?” he asked. Charlie and I nodded slowly.
“That boy!” he said, shaking his head in annoyance. “I’ll go handle him.” Mrs. Polivka grabbed his arm. “Honey, please calm down,” she begged quietly.
“No! He’s up there breaking things just because he has a temper! If we don’t stop him, he’ll think it’s alright to do it in the future!” Mr. Polivka stormed upstairs and we all winced as we heard angry shouts.
“Fuck you dad!” Fuller shrieked, racing downstairs. “I’m going to Chris’s house and I’m never coming back! I hate you!” he snapped.
“Oh stop being a child Fuller! And watch your dirty mouth!” Mr. Polivka said, coming downstairs and roughly grabbing his arm. “Ow!” Fuller snapped and tried to pull his arm away.
Mr. Polivka dragged him upstairs and I awkwardly sat with a shaking Charlie. “Oh dear. Oh, I’m so sorry you had to see that Shay. I’ll take you home,” Mrs. Polivka said, panic in her eyes. “I don’t wanna be here alone mommy. Can I come?” Charlie begged.
Mrs. Polivka bit her lip and nodded. She took Charlie’s hand and I followed them out to the car. I sat in the back with Charlie as Mrs. Polivka drove me home.
“I’m very sorry Shay. Fuller has a lot of anger issues and his father really doesn’t have patience for them anymore.” She handed me money. “It’s okay Mrs. Polivka. Thank you,” I said and hugged Charlie before going into my house.
I hurried upstairs and called Casey. I told him everything that had happened. “So do you think Fuller could be the one killing the animals?” Casey asked. I shrugged. “I don’t know Casey. We’ll have to keep a close eye on him. In the meantime, let’s just hope no other animals get killed,” I said with a sigh. We talked a little longer before we hung up and I went to bed.
***Killer’s POV***
I walked quietly, trying to keep myself out of sight as I calmly scanned for animals. It was early in the morning, about 3 a.m., and I had yet to see any pets outside. The more addicted to the killing I became, the more careful the pet owners became.
A dog started barking loudly from a house a little ways up the street. A light went on in what I would guess to be their kitchen and I crept closer as I heard a door being opened.
“Shut UP! Shut up Teddy!” a man cried angrily before slamming the door. I heard the dog whine and scratch at the door. I waited for about 20 minutes, just watching the animal wander around the fenced-in yard before it laid down and stared longingly at the house.
When I was positive that no one in the house, or around it, was awake anymore, I put on rubber gloves and reached over the door of the fence. I unlocked it and slowly pushed the door. It creaked a little, not enough o wake anyone, but of course, when it’s dead silent in the night, it sounded like it was loud enough to wake the dead.
I walked in and the dog, Teddy, watched me carefully. His body had tensed, meaning he didn’t trust me. The majority of my face was covered so that no one could recognize me, but it didn’t matter.
Animals took it as a threat when you flashed your teeth at them, even if you were smiling. I slowly approached Teddy and held out a handful of dog treats.
“Come on boy,” I said quietly. He got up and curiously sniffed the treats. I pet him comfortingly until he had relaxed. He took a treat from my hand and ate it hungrily. He whined a little and went back to get another. I used the treats to lead him from the yard down the street.
I led him until we were next to a corn field. I pet the dog and set down some treats. He ate them happily as I continued to pet his soft fur. I rubbed under his chin and he brought his head up, leaving his neck wide open.
My hand slowly dug around in my pocket. I slowly pulled out my knife as I continued to pet him. “It looks like a mess but I mother fucking planned it,” I sang quietly. I quickly drew the blade across the dog’s throat and held his mouth closed. He struggled in panic and fear for a few seconds before he died.
I stared at the animal a little. “Better you than someone else,” I told it before standing up and creeping into the corn field. I slowly made my way through the corn field to stay out of sight.
Poor fools would wake up the next morning and realize they had sentenced their dog to death. An act of anger in the middle of the night. Would they regret it? Would it torture them until the day they died? Good. Then they would know how it felt.
I knew that tomorrow, I would go back to being the unsuspected innocent citizens. Good by day and a killer by night. It made me smirk a little. I would never be caught.
