Chapter 24
One of the heavy metal doors loudly squeeked as it pushed halfway open. The bright yellow lit peaked into the dark and seemly empty prison. Rosie poked her head out from behind the door panting and touching her knees. Her head hung low with her sight directed at the smooth solid stone floor. Pushing the door required the adventurer's full body strength. No wonder why the King of Rock would send more than one troll.
Rosie lifted her head as her heavy breathing returned back to it's normal pace and silent lightness. Her eyes wandered around the pitch black room while she regain her straight posture standing up. Her bright hair barely made an dent in the prison's darkness. That intimidated the Pop Villager.
" Maybe... Maybe there's a lightswitch somewhere?" Rosie told herself unsure and hopeful.
The villager watched her every step brushing her hand against the metal of the door as she snuck into the darkness. Her hair was still blazing with light highlighting her everymove. When her hands touched the dark and highly durable wood it noticeably warm. Like someone had been there prior which wasn't really a surprise. Afterall Elvis did tell Rosie that about Rock trolls visiting to check on their prisoner.
She scanned the walls for an light switch but, her hand bumped into something. It was metal and somewhat cold like it hadn't been touched in a while. Rosie moved her gaze to her right finding a lever. It was also attached to circuit box that had cables running down into and under the flooring. Curious Rosie pulled the lever down triggering the lighting system.
Suddenly torches lighting themselves ablaze unexpectedly revealed themselves out of the walls! The room still wasn't the fully lit up to the point you could see everything but, it was enough to reveal the most of the prison and most importantly the cage in the middle of it. Rosie gasped in shock backing away from the flames near her. Her eyes rapidly traveled to every highlighted part of the room she could find for moment until they landed on the cage. Her hair lost it's bright glow returning to normal.
The jailbreaker's shoulders dropped as her eyes softened. What she saw in the locked cage was strange and yet very enchanting to her. It was stick staff with what seemed to be a blue of web or thread. The threads sparkled like they were made of glitter or ,as the Trairies liked to call it, sparkledust and magic. The sparkle was so alluring to the Pop troll that she approached getting as close as possible to the cage.
Rosie attempted to open the door of bars of the cage, which was big enough to hold two trolls, but only to prevented by the old lock. She bended down resting her hands on her knees as she checked out the pad lock. Rosie needed to be smart about this. If she damaged the lock the Rock trolls would had known that someone had broken in. There must be a key hidden somewhere.
After searching for another ten minutes, Rosie finally found where keys were hidden in a dark corner. She tested almost every key on the lock until the very last one did the trick. The Pop troll gently took off the pad lock and rested it on the floor before carefully opening the cage door. The cage did look rusty and old so she wasn't going to take any chances in damaging it.
Rosie let out a deep breath that she didn't know she was holding then stepped into the cage. She peaked into the magical ball of threads to see an even small than tiny Trairy inside but, this was no random Trairy. This was Sugar Plum! The prisoner was sitting in a mediation pose with her eyes showing her to be lost in a trance or in her mind. Sugar Plum's Pop troll like form had sparkling steel blue skin but,her hair was Ocean blue. Her grey eyes and sparkling clear wings had not changed. On her head was an unqine indigo tiara while her old dress navy colouring had faded over time.
" Are you the Sugar Plum Trairy? I was expecting something more purple... " Rosie spoke curiously and softly.
Rosie got no reaction from the Trairy. It was like she was talking to a wall. Maybe if she spoke louder and show her the petals then the Trairy will notice her. Rosie then pulled out both the Primrose and the Rose petals she collected and waved each one in front of the ball of threads. Her voice volume was increased but, the Pop troll still kept it somewhere underneath the bar of her loudest volume. She didn't want to catch any Rock trolls' attention, despite it being very unlikely.
" Hello. " Rosie said
" Ahhhhh!" Sugar Plum suddenly screamed.
" AHHHHH!" Rosie screamed back louder and more scared.
Panick arose within the magical and trapped being. Seeing those flower petals again triggered memories from her past that had gotten her in trouble. Her grey eyes were filled with fear and so was her voice. Not wanting to touch or be near the magical petals, Sugar backed up slightly flapping her wings with her arms group closer to her chest.
" A Primrose? An- and a Rose?" Sugar Plum stated panicked.
" It is! I brought it so -" Rosie started somewhat hopeful.
Sugar Plum turned her wings to Rosie crossing her arms. She let out a disapproving sound refusing to hear or agree to what was obviously going to leave Rosie's mouth. The Trairy didn't care. She didn't want to be involved in another mess that could somehow or possibly ruin her life more than it already was!
" So you could..." Rosie said losing hope with her voice lowering.
The Trairy covered her ears like an immature chilld flying away further from her visitor. She was still refusing to look at the troll too. Rosie understood and could tell that she and her request wasn't wanted but, she really needed that Love Potion. Sugar Plum was her only hope and she also didn't want this whole life threatening and bothersome adventure to go to waste. She litteraly crossed the border, walked through the Rock Forest lost, got robbed by her guide and had to walk through fog just to litterally hit the prison doors.
" Lalala!" Sugar Plum sang dismissively.
" make the Love Potion... " Rosie contuined not very confident.
" HOW DO YOU THINK I GOT LOCKED IN HERE?!" Sugar Plum yelled finally facing her visitor.
The sudden outburst frightened Rosie but, she wasn't planning to simply give up cause someone yelled at her. Usually she would back off especially at that point but, this situation was a special case. Fearing the chances of a Rock troll possibly discovering her, Rosie hushed the magical being in a whispering tone before returning to her normal, currently calm and soft spoken voice.
"Ssh! Shh!" Rosie removed the finger from her lips. " Listen... My name is Rosie and I'm not happy about doing this either. "
" The Rock King and his mother won't listen to me! " Sugar Plum said frustrated flying around her magical cell. "About what happened on that faithful day... and I had been locked away for so long."
The Trairy rubbed her face with her fingers slipping under her flower tiara. Rosie paused as she had listened to every single word that escaped passed Plum's glittery lips. The shift of tone from angry and frustrated to tired and calm was very noticable. The confession had taken over the processing troll's thoughts. What had happened that was so bad? Was it due to the Love Potion?
" That faithful day?" Rosie repeated confusion watching Sugar Plum.
The Trairy's round ears perked as Rosie's words entered them. She gasped both surprise and thrilled at the fact that her visitor had listened to her. Somebody had actually listened to her for the first time in a year! Rosie silently waited for Sugar Plum to say something as she turned around again and flew closer.
" You were listening so I'll do it. " Sugar Plum said happily.
" Yes!" Rosie exclaimed celebrating the bittersweet success.
" If you promise to set me free..." Sugar Plum added calmly.
" What?"
Rosie lowered her raised arms unsure what to do. Her confusion was written all over her face. It wasn't that she didn't want to help Sugar Plum but, the fact that she didn't know how to do it. Also the Pop troll was very sure that the Rock trolls would notice if their Trairy Prisoner was gone! What was she going to do?
" Shake on it?" Sugar suggested flying closer with her hand out and extended.
" Hmmm -"
" You can reach in. I can't reach out." Sugar Plum explained calmly.
Rosie placed the red rose petal in her other hand then pushed her hand threw the blue threads. To her horror both her hand and lower arm had shrunk in size! The Trairy broke out in laughter as she watched Rosie shifted from calm and confused to out right terrified!
" Ah!" Rosie screamed pulling her arm out immediately.
" You should see your face! Ooo! I can show you!" Sugar Plum said amused.
Then her whole body twirled as she shaped shifted into a spitting image of Rosie. Even her eyes and wings had changed colour or disappointed too. The Trairy mimiced Rosie's scared face to best of her abilities which turned out to be very accurate. She pretended to scream in lowercase.
" Ahhh!" Rosie screamed even more scared.
Rosie was now scared of tge Trairy's shapeshifting. This was big news to her! In Pippy's scrapbook there was no mention of shapeshifting! The fact that Sugar looked exactly like her was terrifying. If it wasn't for the voice Sugar Plum could easily pass as her. The Trairy shapeshifted back into her earlier form which Rosie personally prefered.
" Another good one! Wanna see?"
" No! No. No. " Rosie denied.
Her hand was in front of the threads attempting to block Sugar Plum from her view. Rosie definitely not want to see herself scream again. That's for sure. The sparkling Trairy chuckled adoring the moment she was having with her guest. The Rock trolls were too serious and wouldn't let her play around with them but, Rosie not only was a good listener... But also willing to see her shenanigans first before assuming the worst of her. Sugar Plum liked Rosie now and had a feeling that they could be friends. Jailbreak buddies!
" Petal me,Rosie! " Sugar Plum ordered excitedly. " Let's make a Love Potion."
