Band time. I love band, I love feeling the music vibrate the ground I'm standing on, I love the feeling of successfully sight reading a full sheet of music with no problems. Like the Zach Brown Band once said in one of their songs, "It's the little things in life that mean the most, not where you live, what you drive or the price tag on your clothes, there's no dollar sign on a piece of mind this I've come to know". I could agree more with the words to that song.
All I could think about while I played, were not the notes I was playing on the sax, but the words they go with, letting things flow naturally.
Gotta keep
One jump ahead of the breadline
One swing ahead of the sword
I steal only what I can't afford
Crap that's a G.
One jump ahead of the lawmen
That's all, and that's no joke
These guys don't appreciate I'm broke
Come on me, that's G again.
Riffraff!
Street rat!
Scoundrel!
Take that!
I need to work on that G.
Just a little snack, guys
Rip him open, take it back, guys
I can take a hint, gotta face the facts
You're my only friend, Abu!
Who?
Oh it's sad Aladdin has hit the bottom
He's become a a one-man rise in crime
I'd blame parents except he hasn't got 'em
Am I flat?
Gotta eat to live, gotta steal to eat
Tell you all about it when I got the time!
One jump ahead of the slowpokes
One skip ahead of my doom—
Someone is frantically waving at the door. I got up, signaling Mrs. Fellenbaum I'm heading to the restroom. I start to walk out, and I see Lucy, see's still frantically waving at me to hurry up. I was curious why she would be waving at me so persistently, my first instinct was that someone was hurt, but that couldn't be, should would have told a teacher, not me.
"Yes?" I ask tentatively.
"I-I wanted you to be the first to know," She said, a little sad. "Me, me and Kyle are done, we're both young, we're both unexperienced, we're both just—well just not ready yet. It's mutual. Don't like go after him or anything, it's—it's okay."
I didn't know what to say, because I was sad that she had broken up with Kyle, but I was also confused why she chose to tell me first, and happy that she was now free for the taking. I said the only thing that I could think of. "I—I'm so sorry Lucy."
"It's—it's fine. You didn't do anything." Clearly it wasn't fine, she was upset, but she was also determined, you never mess with a determined woman, that's what my mother always taught me. I gave her a gentle hug, showing her, she can continue to trust in me.
