Chapter Seven
{A/N:} I was tagged to answer a few things about myself and I have decided to add it to the end of this chapter so I wouldn't break things apart by adding it as its own update.
The trip seemed to drag on for Adrien; hiding in convenience store bathrooms when he felt like he was being watched and having to drive higher than the required speed limit in case he was being followed. When he finally was in view of the Eiffel Tower, his nerves seemed to calm down as his senses relaxed.
He was getting closer to home by the second and he couldn't wait to see Marinette's and Hugo's face. Eileen was still communicating with the blonde as she regularly texted to ask where he was. While Adrien knew she was a worried friend of his, something else was telling him that she had other intentions. Not knowing what they might be, he brushed it aside and informed her he was in Paris.

Alya and Eileen didn't speak one word to each other on their way home. Worrying that Alya had heard something, Eileen tried numerous times to communicate with her when they were alone, all attempts failing. Alya didn't want to hear any excuses from the other, knowing they'd all be lies and she didn't have the time to listen, she didn't want to hear them in the first place.
Instead, Alya sat next to Marinette and watched as her friend texted Cole back and forth with a grin on her face. If Eileen was actually on the phone with Adrien, then when was he coming back? Things were changing fast and Alya feared if he wasn't home within the week, Marinette would have moved on completely.
A few days had passed when everyone had returned to their homes, unpacking their things and getting back into the groove of their lives before the trip, Nino and Alya had realized their son, Devan, was holding one of Hugo's toys. Wanting to give it back, Nino agreed to take the toddler over to Marinette's and return the toy.
The doorbell rang, interrupting Marinette's conversation with Cole. She swiftly opened the door and greeted Nino with a warm smile.
"Nino! What a surprise, what brings you here?" She asked and invited him inside.
Nino made his way into her home and sat down on the couch, waiting for her to join him. Devan wiggled out of his father's grip and reached for a few toys on the floor.
"Devan sneakily took one of Hugo's toys. We came to return it."
Marinette smiled and leaned against the couch cushion. "Thanks Nino, but he's already got three of them. You keep it."
"You sure?" Marinette nodded.
Nino turned to Devan and placed a hand on his back. "Say thank you Auntie Marinette!" Devan gurgled and grinned as he grabbed the toy from Nino, starting to play with it.
"So how are you and Cole?" He asked, sitting next to the bluenette once again. Marinette shrugged and turned her gaze away, a soft blush coming to her cheeks.
"We're okay."
"Just okay?" He asked with an arched brow.
She nodded softly. "We have a lot of things in common and I really like him and all but—"
"You really like him?" Nino blinked a few times, making sure he had heard her correctly. Marinette nodded again.
"I do. He's a nice guy." Her voice trailed off and Nino sensed she wanted to add more but held back. Coaxing her to continue, Marinette sighed.
"I didn't expect any of this to happen when we met. It was sort of... a misunderstanding." She explained to Nino how the two met as the only ones who knew the story was Eileen and Alya.
"Wow, so Hugo brought you too together?"
She smiled and nodded. "Pretty much." Her face turned forlorn as she thought more about it. "But, I'm in love with Adrien, always have been and always will. I just don't see myself marrying, or even being with another guy."
"You don't have to date him, Marinette," Nino said softly. What he really wanted to say was, "He's not worthy of being with you." knowing how conflicted she was.
"I know I don't, but when I talk to him..." she sighed, a small sparkle shining in her eyes. "Things seem familiar, like I've heard his voice before, heard the same words before."
Nino day back and let out a small laugh. "What if someone is reading him a script? And the script is an exact replica of what Adrien's told you?"
Marinette sat silent for a few moments as she processed his comment, the wheels in her head starting to turn. Nino glanced at her worriedly and placed a hand on her shoulder.
"Marinette?"
She was deep in thought that she hadn't heard him call her name. What if... no, that couldn't be... there's no way someone could actually get away with that... unless they already have.

"Listen you two faced bitch," Alya crosses her arms, eyes narrowed at the figure in front of her.
"You have caused so much pain to this group as it is and if it doesn't stop any time soon, you'll have major hell to pay."
Eileen rolled her eyes and started to close her front door, Alya standing in the way of her doing so. She stood right in front of Eileen, eyes narrowed and a scowl across her lips.
"There's nothing to say to you." Eileen said, her mind racing at this point. If Alya finds out, she thought, everything will be ruined!
"I think there is," Alya moved her foot to keep the door open, keeping her stare on the other.
"And that would be?"
"You're behind the fake death of Adrien Agreste."
