Chapter 4: Hate is a pretty strong word.
Luke's POV.
I drive a black BMW i8 and I hate it.
I let Mason drive it everyday after school or whenever he wants to because... I hate it.
I know, a lot of kids would kill to drive a car like that but not me. A lot of expensive gifts kind of irritate me, gifts are my parent's way of buying me into forgiving them for shit that I don't even care about and this gift was a little bit too dramatic of them, people think I'm some kind of a show off and I don't like the way most people stare at me the second I step out of the damn thing.
I don't know where Mason is driving us right now but it's definitely not his or Garrett's house and he wouldn't dare drive to my place.
I'm not even gonna ask.
I pull out my phone to find a text from Ari.
"You better get Rei a gift this year." It reads.
I huff.
"Why?" I reply.
"Because she always gets you a gift, fool." I can almost hear her voice as she types this.
I hate how she always makes a big deal out of our birthday.
"She got me a pocket knife last year and a lighter the other year, her gifts are more like threats." I shake my head at the memory.
"And you still kept them, stop bickering with me and just get her something, a sword will be better than nothing."
"Hair dye. What a perfect gift that would be,"
"Don't be a dick, Rei's hair is hot and you wish you could have your fingers in those pink locks."
I can't help but laugh at her response.
Reign wishes.
"Which lucky blonde are you texting now?" Garrett questions from the front, looking at me through the rearview mirror.
"A brunette, actually," I respond but make no mistake of mentioning that the brunette is actually his girlfriend.
He gets jealous and acts like an asshole when it comes to Ari, he literally slammed a beer bottle against a certain guy's skull when the guy dared to kiss Ariana at some party last summer. FYI, they were broken up at the time.
"Shocker," Mason responds to my previous statement.
"Where is Ari?" I ask Garrett from the backseat.
"She drove Rei home." He responds.
"Miller always takes the bus," I say.
"It took power to convince her that stepping into a friend's car isn't illegal but we succeeded," Garrett chuckles.
I narrow my eyes when I look out the window and notice that we've driven to the other side of town, the side that would most likely get us in deep shit since we're still in our football jackets and everything.
"Mason, what the hell are we doing here?" I finally ask him.
"Dude, you didn't tell him?" Garrett questions Mason in a low tone.
"Like he gives a shit about what happens to Rei, I didn't want to waste my breath." Mason responds to Garrett.
"Uh, fuck you, waste your breath on what exactly?" I question, Garrett turns to look at me.
"Okay so you know that douche Andy Grad? The one that was trying to hit on Rei at Shake n' Sip?" He asks.
"Yeah, I remember him," I answer, mostly remembering how annoyed I was by his presence.
"He did something to her this morning." Says Mason.
Something unfamiliar settles in my stomach, I feel my blood whoosh and I bite my teeth so hard my jaw hurts.
"What do you mean?" I want him to specify that statement before my brain goes any further into thinking about what it is that he could have done to her.
"Technically, he didn't do anything but he did have his hands all over her in a very inappropriate way and I think he was trying to like kiss her? I don't know, I stopped it before it could happen but he threatened her, saying shit like, I know where she works." Mason mimicks Andy's tone.
Out of all the things he just said, I end up picking one thing and one thing only.
"He touched her." I state.
"Yeah, he fucking touched her." Says Garrett.
Sometimes? I love it when my nights end in fights.
Mason parks the car close to an alleyway, he informs us that Andy works at a restaurant and he'll be taking out the trash to that alleyway in no time, we get out of the car, it's raining but not heavily raining, more like mist at dawn.
We stand in that alleyway, waiting for Andy to take out the trash as we exchange a blunt and talk about girls and football because we never ever talk about our lives outside of school.
Some friends we are, huh?
Creek, a door opens then shuts, bringing a silence amongst us. He walks to the dumpster with a black trash bag in hand and he tosses it inside then he spots at us standing in the dark.
"The fuck are you supposed to be? The three musketeers?" His lazy tone remarks.
"Hey there, Andy." I start stalking towards him, slow and easy.
"You guys," he recognizes us, "The hell do you want?" He asks.
"See, I have this thing where I don't like listening to rumors so I'm gonna have to hear it from you." I stand in front of him with a smile on my face.
"Hear what?" He seems bored and tired.
"Reign Miller.." I say, "Did you maybe put your hands on her today?" I ask nicely.
"Which one?" He smirks mockingly.
He's mocking me, he's not supposed to do that.
"She's the only Reign Miller you'll ever hear of, motherfucker, don't play with me." My tone is sharp and a little cold.
"Oh... you mean the cute one with pink hair." He's smiling.
"Not how I'd describe her but yeah, her." I shrug.
"She's hot and all but I don't think I-"
"Did you or did you not touch her? it's a straight forward question that deserves a straight forward answer, man, damn," I say frustratedly.
"Yeah I think I might have felt her little tight body at some point," he nods, "Why? You gonna put me in my place, rich boy?" He gets in my face.
I chuckle.
"You serious?" I analyze how close he just got.
"Which part? You putting me in my place or me wrapping my arm around your slut's wai-" he's cut off by my fist colliding with his jaw, he stumbles back, his hand flying to his mouth.
"What the fuck, man?" He's bleeding, good.
"Shut the fuck up and fight me back," I shrug out of my football jacket, Garrett takes it from me.
"Over a bitch called Reign?" He says that like the name is ridiculous, "I don't think so." He shakes his head, I take another swing at his face which lands him on the wet ground, rain pouring on his body.
"That's for calling her a bitch, stand." I demand, looking into the void. He stands, coming at me like he's about to fight me, I dodge his fist, rolling my eyes at his miserable attempt. I grasp his neck, pinning him against the panbrick wall.
"You're a boring fighter and punching you makes me feel like a bully so we're going to cut this short, yes?" I ask, he just glares back at me so I continue. "Read my lips and glue my words in your pathetic brain. I'm the only one who's allowed to call her names, you call her a slut again and I'll make sure you never play football ever again. I'd stop dreaming about touching her or anyone else from that school if I were you, Andy, seriously," I tell him.
He's gone mute.
"Fucking answer him, dicks for brains." Mason hisses, Garrett chuckles.
"So what? you're gonna kick my ass if I screw a girl? I think I'm willing to take that risk." He chokes out.
I laugh, "Do you hear this idiot?" I ask the boys.
"Suicidal as shit, ain't he?" Garrett chuckles.
"Seems so." Says Mason.
"Are you guys threatening me now?" His tone sounds wheezy and his face turns red.
"We've been threatening you this entire time, fucking dumbass," Mason snickers.
His eyes shift back and forth amongst the three of us like he's contemplating.
"So, you'll leave her alone?" I capture his eyes.
"Fine. I'll leave the bitch alone." He grits out, I tighten my grip around his neck.
"What was that?"
"Reign," he corrects himself, I retrieve my hand and he gasps for air and coughs out.
"Good talk." I pat his cheek, backing away from him.
We walk back to my car, I ride in the back, reading another message from Ari, asking me about where we are cause Garrett won't tell her the truth.
I don't respond.
Garrett and Mason are quiet during this drive, it's the kind of quiet that has a lot of unsaid words lingering in the air.
"What is it?" I speak, breaking the irksome silence.
"Wow." Garrett laughs.
"And here I was thinking you hated Reign," Says Mason, I roll my eyes at them.
"Hate is a pretty strong word and I didn't do that for Reign.." I lie, "I would have done it for any girl." I totally wouldn't have done it for any girl, just Reign, Ariana and my sister Cassandra.
"Yeah, we believe you." Garrett laughs again.
"Totally." Mason backs him up.
"Fuck you guys," I go back to texting Ariana.
