Chapter 18: Promise.
Reign's POV.
"I got the phone!" I run up to Ariana who is leaning her back against her car door and typing away on her phone.
She looks up at me and releases a sigh of relief.
"Thank God, I thought they caught you or something. What took you so long?" She asks.
Strangely, I don't feel like telling her about the encounter I had with Luke in the hallway.
"Cara and Jasmine beat the shit out of each other in the boy's locker room." I pass Garrett's phone to her, she widens her eyes at me as she takes it from my hand.
"No fucking way, did she find out he was sleeping with Cara?" She asks whispery, I narrow my eyes at her.
"You knew?"
"Everyone knew," She laughs, "Jasmine doesn't listen to anyone when it comes to relationships, she'd rather find out herself than be told," She says as she unlocks Garrett's phone, I move to stand beside her in order to peep at the screen because I'm that nosey.
She opens his Instagram and checks his messages, she clicks on a conversation Garrett had a few hours ago with someone called Scarlett.
"I fucking knew it," She scrolls through the conversation.
I don't know why she's overreacting, these conversations are innocent and a little boring cause why ask someone what they're having for lunch?
"I don't see any nudes so I don't think that's his 'mistress'" I air quote the ridiculous word, she turns her head to face me.
"This is the chick Garrett hooked up with last summer when we were on a break," She holds up the phone.
"Oh." I bite down a laugh.
"Hey!" I hear Garrett shout across the lot, we both turn to look in his direction.
"Shit." Ariana hides the phone behind her.
He's walking towards us with his duffle bag hanging on his shoulder at a fast pace, looking all pissed off.
"Reign, I never thought I'd say this to you ever but fuck you!" He points at me.
"What did I do?" I whine, acting innocent, "And fuck you too Garrett, you cheating piece of shit."
"Give me my phone back." He snaps his fingers, looking back and forth between us.
"What makes you think we have it?" Ariana keeps a straight face, Garrett rolls his eyes before grabbing her arm and tries to reach her hands behind her, she tries to get out of his hold and keep the phone in her hands.
They bicker and they bicker.
I sigh.
So another reason why I'm single just resurfaced.
They keep bickering over the phone until Garrett gets ahold of it and uses it to point at Ariana, opening his mouth to speak but she beats him to it.
"Don't fucking point the thing at me, you cheating piece of shit." Her tone sounds breathy.
"Don't fucking point the thing at her, you cheating piece of shit." I back her up, he glares at me, I show him the finger.
"What's going on? Why is everybody fighting today?" Mason and Luke join the scene, Mason wraps his heavy arm around me while Luke rests his hands on his hips and stares at Garrett and Ariana like he's a tired parent chewing gum.
"Garrett cheated on me." She informs them.
"I did not cheat on you." He defends, shaking his head. "I didn't cheat on her." He says, looking at the rest of us.
"I feel like we should sit you guys down or something." Mason gestures with his hand.
"Good idea, let's do it at Luke's house." I suggest, looking at Luke as I snake my arm around Mason's waist.
Luke glances at me but he doesn't respond, he just keeps chewing lazily, his face looking bored.
"Hey Luke?" Someone calls him from a distance.
Jasmine.
He looks at her and sends her a nod before looking back at us.
"See you guys later." He turns and walks away, we all watch as he jogs up to Jasmine and wraps his arm around her waist, lifting her, she tells him to put her down while laughing.
Something in my gut flips upside down.
"Can we talk?" Garrett asks Ari.
"No." She shakes her head, he groans angryly and walks away from us.
I feel like a proud mother.
"Well, it looks like Luke is calling dibs on Jasmine." Says Ari, she looks at them as they get into Luke's car, he opened the passenger door for her and shit.
"No, they're just close family friends, they actually know more about each other than any of us do." Says Mason.
"Does she know where he lives? Cause as far as I know, no one knows where Luke lives." I say.
"She does and I also know where Luke lives, by the way," Mason raises his hand, "Massive house I tell ya."
"Did he tell you why he's never invited us over? Not even on Thanksgiving or some shit?" Asks Ari, folding her arms over her chest.
Mason takes his time responding to that one, I think he's hoping for someone to speak so that he doesn't have to answer that question but Ari and I are both waiting for him to respond.
"I'm not telling you guys shit but all you need to know is that Luke is not who guys put him out to be, I mean yeah, he's an asshole sometimes but-"
"Still won't change the fact that he's an asshole." I cut him off.
"Your opinion on him doesn't even count, Reign," he chuckles.
"Why not? I'm friends with him too you know," I narrow my eyes at Mason.
"No, you're not, you hate him and for no good reason," He says.
"Whatever." I look at Ari who's being awfully quiet. "Why are you quiet?" I question her.
"I need to tell you guys something but promise me that it's going to stay between us." She sounds so serious.
"Promise." Mason and I say in union.
"Okay so my Mom told me that she went to high school with Luke's father, he was also a rich kid but so much more spoiled than Luke and that...." She hesitates.
"And what?" I huff.
"And that, if the rumors about the man are true then we probably shouldn't be hanging out with his son, no one back then fucked around with a Richardson." She mumbles the last part.
Mason and I exchange a glance then we burst out laughing.
"Why are you guys laughing?!"
"No one back then fucked around with a Richardson? No offense, Ariana, but you sound like a Riverdale character," says Mason, rolling his eyes as though he finds the story ridiculous.
"She described him as one of those men who destroy lives and makes people disappear and gets away with it." She explains in a whisper even though there's no one else listening.
"So what you're trying to tell us is that, Luke's Dad is a fucking mobster who works with dirty political assholes as well as dirty feds," I state, just to clear the air.
"It would explain why his son has never invited us to his house," She lifts her shoulders.
"I've barely invited you guys to my house," I point out.
"Barely," They speak at the same time.
"Which means you have at some point." Ari adds.
"Maybe he's just a private person." I shrug.
"Are you defending him? You sound so weird defending him." Ari asks me in disbelief.
"You sound even weirder talking about how his Dad is a fucking mobster." I half laugh, "And why in God's name are we talking about Luke? Let's talk about One Direction and why they split up."
"That's so random." Mason chuckles, ruffling my hair.
"Let's talk about my cheating piece of shit boyfriend." Ari suggests, changing the subject.
"Just thank you next his ass." I tell her.
"No, don't do that, he might be an asshole but he loves you more than I'd love to solve the thing about Luke's Dad." Says Mason, Ari and I laugh.
