Chapter 16: Let's play a game.
Reign's POV.
Luke usually isn't one to keep quiet during a drive with me in the car.
He always tries to pick on my last nerve and play around with my peace in order to ruin my mood but not tonight.
Tonight, we're driving in silence while he smokes a cigarette, we already got the booze and I have no idea where he's taking me.
I mean, I could ask but he looks like he's deep in thought and totally not in the mood for any sort of questions.
We continue driving in silence until he stops the car at the drive-in cinema.
There aren't a lot of cars, I'm guessing it's because of the football game.
They're playing a shitty seventy's movie displaying in black and white.
I look at the car parked next to Luke's and I scrunch my face at the full on make out session happening inside.
Of course.
That's what every drive-in is for.
"If this is your way of trying to get in my pants again, you've already failed," I look at him as he grabs the bottle of liquor from the backseat and twists it open.
"Reign, if I wanted to get in your pants then I would have already done that," He says.
"Are you calling me easy, Richardson?" I laugh at the irony.
"No, I'm trying to tell you that I get pussy whenever I whistle," he shrugs.
"Luke, I dare you to whistle," my eyes go round.
"Oh, so you want to fuck me?" he turns the game around.
"No! and don't say that word in front of me." I wrinkle my nose in disgust.
"What? Pussy?" He smiles at me before taking a sip, keeping eye contact.
"Geez." I huff, looking at the black and white film playing out on the screen in front of us.
He passes the bottle, I take it without looking at him and I chug, feeling the liquid flow down my throat with it's heated burn, setting an electric spike in the pit of my stomach.
Strong drinks are the only things that make me feel.
"Easy." Luke grasps my hand over the neck of the bottle, pulling it from my mouth.
"Don't worry, I don't get as touchy as some people when I get drunk." I smirk, shaking off his hand from mine.
"I was drunk and fucking confused and it only happened once, get over it already." He says.
"Okay then, let's play a game." I suggest.
He stares at me then he shifts like my words made him uncomfortable, he looks to the front and scratches the back of his head.
"Fuck you." He chuckles softly, gripping the back of his neck.
I laugh, leaning my head against the headrest.
"You said you were drunk, well you're not drunk right now." I point out.
"Okay, what if I say I wanna play? What game would it be?" He meets my eyes.
"Never have I ever," I tell him.
"Dumb game," He looks away from me.
"Truth or dare?"
"Also dumb but okay," He gives in.
"Alright," I rub my hands together, "I'll go first, truth or dare?" I ask him.
"Truth?" He literally questions his response.
"Is it just me or do you not like your new toy," I refer to the car.
"Pass. Next question," He grabs the bottle from my hand and takes a swing.
"Mysterious doesn't look good on you but okay," I sigh, "What exactly did you like about the dumb book that you gave me?" I change the question.
"First of all, you're not allowed to call it dumb when you haven't even finished reading it and I like everything about it, there's this part where it says that, every person is a book and that we all have that one chapter that we don't want to read out loud," He says, I nod in understanding.
"Didn't read that part yet but okay, Luke Richardson," I say playfully, he shakes his head at me.
"Truth or dare?" He asks.
"Dare, duh." I take the bottle from him.
"I dare you to kiss me." He dares. I snort a laugh, thinking it's a joke or something.
He's dead serious.
Is he?
Should he be?
"Dude, you can't dare me to kiss you, that's not a thing." I laugh amusingly.
"It is, actually," He says like he's done this before.
"It is not," I respond underneath my breath.
Is it?
He runs his hand through his hair, making it messy.
"Okay, allow me to be really stupid for a second here," He shifts again, "I don't know why but ever since that night at Garrett's, I've been thinking about you, in a sexual way," He admits, "A lot." He clears his throat.
"Ohh, you have?" I say sarcastically, sounding surprised even though I'm not because well, it's not like he hasn't been so very obvious about it.
And it's not like I haven't thought about ripping his shirt off and trailing my tongue along his chest, going down down south.
Weird kink for someone who claims to not like the guy, I know.
Fucking teenage hormones.
"One kiss can make those thoughts disappear, Reign, just one," he raises his index finger, I fight back the urge to laugh at his statement.
Like I said, I'm never going to kiss Luke Richardson but you know what I can do?
Mess with his head.
I'm good at that.
I always have fun while doing that.
"No, one kiss won't be enough, let's have sex." I suggest. He scoffs or chokes, it sounded like both.
"Seriously?" His brows shoot up.
"You don't want to?" I let my tone sound disappointed and a little embarrassed.
"Are you kidding me? It's sex, of course I want to." He responds quickly.
I fake smile, "Good."
Sucker.
I take a deep breath, placing the bottle of liquor in the cup holder.
I unbuckle my seatbelt, moving to sit on Luke's lap, resting my legs on his sides.
I hear his breath hitch, his jaw ticks and his hands curl into fists like he doesn't know what to do with his hands.
His eyes drop down to my body then slowly trails back up, coasting over my breasts and neck before finally reaching my eyes.
My heart races under his gaze, making me feel weak and a little bit nervous?
Why the hell am I nervous?
He hesitantly brings his hand to my face, his fingers brush over my lips while he stares at them.
I swallow.
What was my plan again?
His eyes dart to mine and he whispers a shaky, "Sorry." As he retrieves his fingers.
"It's okay." I touch his face, running a hand across his cheek and into his silky hair. He smiles, his eyes gleaming as he stares into mine.
Something in my chest wraps around my heart and it squeezes, making my heart bleed.
He slowly brings his hands to my hips, sneaking his hands underneath my t-shirt and caressing my skin with his thumbs.
It's just a warm touch, nothing serious.
Wait, why am I-
Maybe this was a bad idea.
It gets worse when he leans over and nuzzles his face in the crook of my neck, inhaling.
Fuck.
I release a sharp breath and he tightens his grip around my waist, his body ripping with emotion. I feel my own hands shake as he plants an open-mouthed kiss on my neck, leaving wet trails as he kisses up to nibble my jaw.
He pulls away to look into my eyes, holding the back of my neck and pulling me in for a kiss but I turn away, shutting my eyes and biting the inside of my lower lip because I almost let him kiss me.
He wraps his arms around my body and buries his face in my hair, crashing our bodies together.
Too intimate.
I hate intimacy.
I pull away from him, looking at his face.
"Please?" His eyes go wild on my face.
"No." I say in a whisper, my eyelids dropping involuntarily.
"Why not?"
"I choose the people I kiss and you're not one of them." I say.
"Okay then." His hands travel down to my jeans, unbuttoning them, "Can I touch you instead?" He reaches for the zipper and I grasp his hand, stopping him.
"No, who do you think I am?" I climb off him, dropping on the passenger seat, I button my jeans and pull the zipper.
We sit through the ick some silence.
I can't seem to stop shaking.
"I'm sorry." He says, sounding regretful.
"For what? Being Luke fucking Richardson?" I keep my eyes away from him.
"Don't do that." He says in a warning tone.
"Do what?"
"Use my own name against me all the time, don't do that." He repeats.
"I don't use your name against you, Luke, I just say it as it is." I point out.
He doesn't respond.
"I'm sorry if I pushed it, okay? I'm really not that desperate to do anything with you, I just think it's weird that I even think about it." He says, I bite my tongue.
His words offend me for some reason, in fact, I just realized that he has flirted with a lot of girls at school, including Ariana.
Why not me though? Not that I wanted him to but still, why not?
"Yeah cause I'm sooo beneath you and your class," I say more to myself.
"No, Reign, It's weird because we only argue and curse at each other all the time, you're hot as shit, dude, you know you are but you piss me off all the fucking time," he explains.
"Because you don't," I scoff.
He keeps quiet, looking out the window like he can't look at me anymore which tells me that I just proved his point by simply pissing him off.
He grabs the bottle and chugs the liquid like it's water.
"You really make it hard to like you," He groans.
"And you still say you want to fuck me," I half laugh.
He looks at me with a hard glare.
"Trust me, there's a fucking difference."
