° Chapter 5 •

That night, Audrey found herself looking through her closet and drawers to find the perfect outfit.

"Wait, why am I doing this, she can't see me.. but still I could still wear something nice.. no, there's no point. Wait, I should wear a shirt that screams I'm gay! Wait no, what if Belle is openly gay like me? There are homophobic people in town, when I came out some people stopped coming to my store.. Audrey you're talking to yourself again."

Audrey sighed and sat down on the bed. "Maybe just wear something casual. Good shoes for walking, since we're just going to get lunch then going for a walk at the park. Oooh I can't wait for Saturday to come around!"

Audrey looked at her clock. "The faster I go to sleep the faster Saturday will come," she said and excitedly crawled under the covers and fell asleep around 8 o'clock.

That Tuesday morning was especially busy for Audrey. Waves of people came in, crowding around the stack of new books set out on the counter. Children were fighting over the same comic book, and two girls who I assumed to be sisters huddled in the corner reading comics about superheros.

"This place sounds crowded, how can you deal with this much people?" A familiar voice asked. Audrey swiveled around in her chair to face Belle.

"Good morning Belle, you're here early," Audrey smiled and greeted in a cheery voice.

"I wanted to hear your voice," Belle smiled.

"Aw, that's so sweet. I was hoping I'd see you, this many people does get a little tiring and I like to see a familiar face every once and awhile."

"I'm sure it isn't that bad."

"Trust me, sometimes it is. So many screeching children, and teens crying over the last book they needed being out of stock."

“Do you ever get the 'fangirls’ who obsess about certain books?”

“Lots of times. There's two girl sitting in a corner chair right now, reading superhero comics. Marbel, I think it's called.”

“That must be difficult to deal with. Hey, do I smell cinnamon rolls?” Belle sniffed the air.

Audrey got up and led Belle over to a small Cafe in the store. “I just opened a new area, it's a cafe for students to come and study while they can drink and eat food.”

A girl with frizzy black hair and dark skin slung a towel over her shoulder, walking over to Audrey and Belle. “Hey Addy, who's your friend?” the girl asked.

“Zuri, meet Belle. Belle, this is my friend Zuri,” Audrey introduced. Belle stuck out her hand and Zuri shook it.

“It's very nice to meet you Belle,” Zuri smiled.

“It's nice to meet you too Zuri,” Belle grinned.

“Zuri handles the cafe while I handle the book part of the store,” Audrey explained.

“Partners in crime!” Zuri laughed and pulled Audrey into a side hug. “So how do you know Addy?” Zuri asked Belle.

“Audrey and I officially met last week,” Belle answered, “and we're going on a date this Saturday.”

“My Addy is finally getting out there! You go girl!” Zuri high fived Audrey.

“Thanks Zee, maybe you should go back to work,” Audrey chuckled and pushed Zuri back to the cafe counter.

“You two seem like best friends,” Belle pointed out. “How long have you known her?”

“For years. We've been friends since we were little, and i invited her to come work here with ne. Her skills in the kitchen are amazing, you should try a cinnamon roll,” Audrey passed Belle one of Zuri's cinnamon rolls.

“You better pay for that!” Zuri joked.

“Oh hush,” Audrey rolled her eyes.

Belle took a bite of the cinnamon roll and smiled widely. “This is delicious!”
