Why? ⚠️

⚠️ Warning ⚠️

This is a mature themed one-shot! Starts with smut before heading into angst and fluff.

Why?

Adrien rearranged his position to hit the spot he knew would make her scream. His favourite noise when he was the one delivering such an impact on her sweat soaked body. With his hand pulling one of her knees closer to her chest he left nothing behind. Repeatedly thirsting into her with desire, love and affection. He knew she wanted to be taken care of tonight, not in a 'make love' way but in a 'I'm here and I'll make you feel that' kind of way.

Grunts and moans from the two heroes echoed through her room. Thank God her roommate was out getting up to their own shenanigans, or else questions would be asked. It wouldn't be the first time though. Marinette knew she wasn't quiet when she was with Adrien, it was always something more, an unstoppable force that made her go primal.

Suddenly, she felt his hardened length begin to hit her with erratic movements and his hand trail between them to stroke her to pure ecstasy. He knew how she worked, he knew how to make her orgasm for minutes, he could hold her at her peek, and tonight she needed it. She needed him to prove he was there. That he was alive and with her.

Pulling him down towards her, he latched his lips to hers in a vice like grip, digging his tongue deep into her mouth to taste all the flavours of his favourite sweet treat. How did he live without her before? How was he going to carry on in his normal day to day life without this taste?

He felt the spasm of her, as she tightened around his deep thrusts. She was trembling. He loved to make her tremble. He may possess the power of cataclysm but that wasn't the same as giving this beautiful woman an orgasm that made her feel so relaxed and so free.

The movements he was still making pushed him closer to the edge and she knew. She knew everything about the workings of his body, his brain, his heart.

"Inside me." She stuttered out through grasping breaths, still riding her own high. Her eyes were serial killer black and Adrien just wanted Marinette to devour him. He wanted her to want him as much as he did her. Why did it have to be so difficult?

He released inside her, claiming her as his own. If only that was true.

With one last movement his body collapsed against her sweat laced one and she braved herself for what was coming next. Why did she have to be so scared? This was Adrien. This was her Chat Noir.

"We can't keep doing this Princess." His voice vibrated through her shoulder as his head buried into her neck. She could feel his head shaking from side to side, releasing her leg to place both forearms above her shoulders.

She was silent. She didn't want to answer. She didn't know how to answer.

"Every time we have a hard battle and you lose me, you can't ... we can't ..." he grunted as he pushed his head off her shoulder and held himself above her. He was still inside. Slowly creeping back to his pre-erect size.

Marinette looked away. It was becoming a regular occurrence over the past six months. She'd lose him in a battle, only to bring him back and love him. God, she loved him! But he could never know. Why? Because she was scared.

"Please, Marinette, look at me."

His voice was so smooth she swore sometimes he was made of honey, so sweet and sugary. He looked down at her patiently, still she didn't turn her head. He sighed and pulled himself out of her before heading into her en-suite for towels and a flannel. Adrien was such a gentleman. Her heart was overwhelmed with desire. But she couldn't cave to her own emotions. How would she cope letting him into her heart, only for him to find she wasn't what he thought she was? He'd leave her. He wouldn't stay.

She watched as he walked back out stark naked. He was beautiful. Everything about him was beautiful, which is the exact reason as to why she didn't deserve him. She wasn't good enough to have the right to claim this man as her own. Finally looking at him, she took the towel and flannel to clean herself.

"Thanks."

"Are we going to talk about this, or you going to ignore it again?" He asked. His voice still gentle, still holding onto hope.

"Kitty?"

"Mari, you know how I feel. I tell you enough. I want you to be honest with me. Im not strong enough to resist you, but it's stopping me from moving on. I want a wife, children, a hamster. I want a family Marinette and I want it with you. Why won't you give me the chance to prove it to you? Yes, I've always loved Ladybug but she's you. Everything about you in the most perfect package. I love you."

Her voice pitched in her throat. He'd never spoken like this to her before. She knew this was something more that just the afterglow of sex. He was placing his cards on the table.

"I broke up with Kagami, I went against my fathers wishes for me to date his new muse, geez we've even done this multiple times with no protection and could end up pregnant, yet you still won't commit to me." He stood up and began to place on his clothing.

Marinette sat up in bed and stared at the naked backside of Adrien Agreste. He could be hers. She knew she only had to say it and he would come running, but she couldn't be that selfish. He'd hate her in the long run, just as Luka had.

"I gather from your silence that this conversation isn't happening again." He sighed and sat back down pulling his tee over his head. "I can't keep being used as a fuck toy, Mari. I'm worth more than that. Whatever is holding you back I hope it's is worth it because I can't do this anymore."

A stray tear released from her eye and trailed a shining line down her cheek. He looked away knowing he'd cave and run to her if he kept looking. He stood up and called for Plagg. His heart was shattering, he just wanted her to ask him to stay. Was it too much to ask?

"I'm sorry." The words left her mouth in a harsh, gritty way. "I can't." A stream of tears punctuated her words. Why was she doing this? This was not what she wanted at all. She wanted him. She wanted to be Mrs Agreste, she wanted to add to the Agreste bloodline, she wanted her kitty, her saviour.

Giving her a nod, he called on his transformation and headed off into the night. Her heart was shattered, and she knew she'd broken his too.

——————————————————————————

The next week passed in a blur. Not because it was fast, but because of the tears that seemed to have taken refuge on Marinette's lower eyelids. A permanent puddle of her own stupidity.

She hadn't spoken to him, and there had been no akuma's. She was in a spiralling black hole and nothing was getting her out. Tikki had tried. She'd tried her best to get Marinette to talk to him, to tell him exactly what was wrong. She couldn't understand why she was bottling up so many emotions, allowing herself to grow into a state of despair. This wasn't the Ladybug she knew. This wasn't the Marinette she knew. She no longer knew the girl with the blue reflective hair.

"Mari?" A sound came from the hallway and Tikki hid away in Marinette's dresser. Hopefully her best friend could talk something into her. To get her to see just how plain stupid and stubborn she was being.

The door to Marinette's room pushed open, and her foxy friend poked her head around the door. What she was greeted with scared her. Marinette looked pale and hopeless. The glow of light which usually had a permanent existence around her was gone, dulled and matte against pale pink walls in her room.

"What happened? Why aren't you ready?" Alya moved closer, closing the door from the ears of Marinette's room mates. The joys of college dorms.

"I'm not going. I can't go." If she hadn't dried her tear ducts out over the past week she was sure another bout of tears would be escaping, her heart pushing out her pain and sorrow.

"Wrong answer, girl! What happened? Is this why you've been avoiding me this week?"

Another why question for Marinette to try and answer. Why was she like this? Why couldn't she love her partner? Why couldn't she tell her best friend? Why couldn't the reveal have just meant a happily ever after? Why did he<\em> break her?

"I've been sleeping with Adrien for the past six months." Marinette looked straight ahead to the picture taken three weeks ago in the park. She'd snuggled up to Adrien, mirroring Nino and Alya on their left. The smiles were true. They were all in perfect harmony ... harmony! The word that destroyed her. She let out a deep breath and looked at her hands folded neatly in her lap

"Six months? You're kidding right?" Alya's face would have been comical if she wasn't feeling so dead inside

"If I was kidding I'd tell you a joke."

"Stop with the sarcasm! Isn't this everything you wanted? Six months is a long time! It must mean you are in relationship territory." Alya looked at her friend again before an aggressive heat radiated through her body. "Is he still with Kagami? Has he chose her over you? I'll kill him."

"Alya, stop! It's me. I'm denying him."

Alya's mouth gaped again. But it was Adrien. Why would she say no to Adrien?

"Why?"

"Luka." Marinette spat out.

"Oh Mari!" She pulled her friend into a tight hug. "Adrien's different. You've both developed together. You grew up together. Luka was a completely different kettle of fish, you can't compare them. I know he hurt you, but he had his reasons for ending the relationship and I've got to be honest, he had a fair point."

"It still hurt though Alya. I can't bare that from Adrien. What if he feels the same way as Luka did?"

"Oh sweetheart. You've been with Adrien triple the amount of time you were with Luka, and the major difference is you're not in love with anyone else. Your melody won't change."

Marinette nodded, she understood Alya's point but she'd die if she lost Adrien.

"If you don't grab him whilst you can. He'll be gone, Mari. He won't be single forever, then how will you feel?"

"He told me he loves me." Finally a tear made its way out and down her cheek.

"Ok, I've had enough." Alya stood up and began to rummage through Marinette's wardrobe. "We're getting you dressed up and you're going to speak to lover boy."

"I can't, Alya! He'll never stay with me."

"Marinette, I'm about to throw my stiletto at you." For the first time Marinette noticed Alya was dressed up. A beautiful short skater skirt with a backless halter neck, finished with her 'Gabriel'</em> heels courtesy of Adrien for her twenty-first birthday.

It was the night of Kim's twenty-first birthday, so in true Kim style he was throwing a huge party for basically anyone who'd ever said "Hi" to him. Marinette had totally forgotten.

"This." Alya turned around and was holding Marinette's newest creation. The creation she had made and designed with Adrien in mind. The little black dress to defeat all others. She'd made it just in case they ever went on a real date. She knew she'd hold his eyes only to her. It accented his favourite parts of her body; her ass and her legs.

"I look a mess, Alya."

"Oh, that can be sorted with a bibbity bobbity boo." Alya picked up a towel and threw it at Marinette. "Now go shower, we have a ball to get you to Cinderella."

——————————————————————————

Adrien knew it was a cheap shot, and he always knew there was no guarantee that Marinette would turn up. Every night he'd gone patrolling via her apartment, he couldn't stay away from her. All he'd seen was a broken girl, seated at her table sewing. His heart would shatter more every time he looked, wanting nothing more than to take her in his arms and tell her he'd be her anything as long as he was the only one she was seeing, and that he was the only one she wanted and needed. Yes he wanted to take her out and treat her like royalty, but if that didn't happen he'd gladly still spend time with her hidden from the world.

Which brings him to tonight's events. Why was he stupid enough to bring a date? His Lady was heartbroken so he'd decided to rub salt in the wounds. He shouldn't have listened to the guys. It was there fault.

Bring a date,<\em> Kim had said, give her a kick in the right direction.<\em>

So here he was. A tall, blonde on his arm, not the short, raven haired girl he wanted. Her chestnut eyes were nothing on the deep blues of Marinette's. Vanessa, Adrien's date, had latched onto him like a limpet. She was the girl his father wanted him to date. Well he thought it was until she arrived at the mansion dressed up for the tens this evening.

Gabriel had opened to door. (Why he'd done that Adrien didn't know? Gabriel never opens the door!) His face which usually hid every emotion had morphed into one of shock and maybe even disappointment. It seemed his father had expected another woman to turn up. An aspiring designer apparently. Adrien could have kicked himself. Gabriel had been hinting to Adrien about Marinette. That was what he'd meant by someone in the industry; it wasn't a model like he thought, but the girl he was head of heels for. Another kick in the crotch, one could say.

Adrien wanted to go home. He wanted to leave and hide back under his blanket and continue his marathon of Avengers films. He'd made a big mistake.

"Wow, she's gorgeous." Vanessa's voice sounded in his ear, taking him out of his self pity wallow. He turned his head to where she was indicating and almost had a heart attack. The most gorgeous and glorious woman he'd ever seen had walked through the door. "Your father should hire her. I'd gladly model next to her." Adrien could hear something in Vanessa's voice.

"Do you - are you?"

"I'm bi, so don't worry stud muffin we'll definitely be having sex tonight." She winked at him and his insides cringed. Why did he do this? All he could do now was watch as everyone fawned over Marinette, whilst he was stuck here with a woman wearing nothing as nearly elegant as the woman of his dreams.

Marinette weaved her way through the crowds with Alya by her side. Every now and then they'd bump into someone they knew and stop to chat. Even people she didn't know were stopping to talk to her. Women asking where she got her dress from and men wanting to buy her drinks.

Her smile was fixed firmly on her face. Perhaps it was a good thing she'd came, perhaps -

Her thought stuck in her head as she looked over and met with green eyes. Eyes she'd been up close with only a week ago, eyes which made her feel safe and protected. She stared deeply into them, they seemed different. Then she understood why? The beautiful blonde next to him was whispering in his ear before placing a kiss onto his cheek, moving down onto his neck. Marinette was the only one who'd ever kissed him there. He always told her it was his intimate spot where he'd only let the ones he loved most kiss. The bile rose in her throat. She shouldn't have come.

Before waiting around to see what he'd do next, Marinette had broken eye contact and hurried towards to terrace of the venue. She needed air and she needed to get out of here. Why had she agreed to come?

The nights cool air whipped around her as she heaved. It's lucky she hadn't eaten much that day, or she was sure food would now be coating her dress.

"Hey, hey. Calm! Just breath." A hand had been placed on her stomach and another rubbed her back. She slowed her breathing. In through the nose, out through the mouth, in through the nose ... and that's when she smelt it. Leather and smoke. Luka.

"You ok, Melody? I'm going to let go now." Melody, why did he still call her that?

"I'm ok." She responded before placing her hands over her eyes and letting out a strangled sob. This was getting ridiculous. Why couldn't she get a hold of herself?

"She ok, Luka?" A second voice appeared and it made her body begin to shake. She was panicking. Marinette Dupain-Cheng aka Ladybug was having a panic attack. Kagami rested her arm around Marinette's waist and led her over to a bench. The girls sat down as Luka stood beside them.

"Should I get anyone?" Luka asked, "Alya, or- or Adrien?"

"No!" Marientte squealed.

"Definitely not, Adrien. The idiots in there with a date." Kagami spoke with her normal ease. It was comforting, Marinette needed comfort.

"A date?" Luka quizzed, only to be met by a muffled moan from Marinette.

"Not his fault. I'm the idiot this time. I turned him down." If anyone else understood the hurt of Adrien Agreste it was the two with her at this month in time. They were the other part of the love hexagon.

"Why?" Luka was shocked. Adrien was everything Marinette wanted, everything she needed.

"You!" She breathed out.

"I'll go get some water." Kagami rose from her seat next to Marinette and made her way back to venue, placing a chaste kiss on Luka's lips as she passed. Marinette watched the affection between the two and wanted to have it, so, so badly.

"Me? Melody, we broke up seven months ago."

"I know." Her voice was quiet, mouselike.

"So, I'll ask again why?" Luka took Kagami's empty seat and placed one of Marinette's small hands in his. He remembered how cute he found it. She was so tiny and fragile.

"I don't want him to leave me like you left me." Luka cringed at the words leaving her mouth.

"You were my first girlfriend, Marinette, I didn't handle the break up as maturely as I should have. I was just jealous over Adrien. You'd began to grow closer and anyone who saw the two of you together knew that was right. That you were a match made in heaven."

Marinette turned her head to look at her ex boyfriend. This was the first time they'd spoken about the break up. It was messy and angry. It had shocked Marinette to the core.

"It was actually Kagami that helped me," Luka continued, "she allowed me to see through the heartbreak and show me what I really wanted. Have you been holding onto my reaction for this long? Is that why you denied Adrien?"

"It killed me so much when we broke up, Luka. I knew the love I felt for you wasn't the same as I feel for Adrien, but I didn't want to lose you as a friend. You were like a big brother to me, you supported me so much, and when you ended it ... the words hit hard. I felt unworthy of love, I felt unworthy of being someone's girlfriend. I know I probably took it all to heart but I couldn't stand if Adrien did that to me too. My heart barely took your break up, it would die if it had to take his. That's why I can't be with him! He'll figure out I'm not worth to be his girlfriend and break up with me. I'll ... I'd ... I can't." Marinette took a deep breath, she was glad it was finally out there. Seven months late but there they were.

"You're everything I want and everything I ever will need."

Marinette turned swiftly to look behind her only to see a tearing Adrien. Kagami stood beside him with a supportive arm around his waist.

"We'll leave you two to it." Luka pulled Marinette into a hug. "I'm so sorry for everything, Marinette. I handled it all wrong, I just didn't think it would have effected you so much. You were the perfect girlfriend, just not for me. Follow your harmony." He stood up and made his way to Kagami offering her his arm.

"Ready M'Lady?" Adrien and Marinette looked over in shock. Luka had used Adrien's words on his ex-girlfriend (who he'd never called that).

"Fans of our heroes?" Adrien questioned.

"They helped get us together." Kagami said as she smiled at her teal haired love. "Now they need to stop hesitating themselves." Luka winked at the couple following his girlfriends words and they made their way back inside.

Adrien didn't know what to do. He knew what he needed to do and why, he just didn't know how.

"Oh, errrmmm ... this is for you from Kagami." He held out the glass of water which she took with an appreciative nod.

"Thank you."

He moved around the bench and sat in the hot seat. It was his turn for truth now.

"Why are you out here?" Marinette quizzed.

"Kagami grabbed me and said you needed help." He was messing with his ring. She let out a breath. At least he was as nervous as her.

"How much did you hear?" Marinette took a sip of the water calming the sting in her throat from the heaving.

"Most of it. I would never hurt you, Marinette. You're it for me. There's no one else, there's never been no one else. I didn't know you were hiding so much. Why didn't you tell me about the break up with Luka."

Marinette let out a giggle. He wasn't sure if it was real or not but at least she wasn't crying at the moment.

"Because Chat Noir would have gone and kicked his ass."

A smirk took over his face. She knew him so well. Though that smirk was wiped instantly at her next question.

"Why did you bring a date?"

He reached up and scratched his neck.

"Kim said it would make you jealous and admit your feelings to me, and the kiss. Well you know how I feel about people touching me. I sent her home straight after and tried to find you." He looked over at Marinette mentally preparing to run if she transformed.

"He was right."

They sat in silence listening to the music escape the venue. The moon was full tonight. Very much like in New York, and like magic their song began to play. Looking at each other Marinette prayed he'd make a move. Looking at each other he hoped she wouldn't attack him for making his move.

"Can we?" He stood up and offered Marinette his hand. This was the moment that would cement or destroy.

"I do love you, you know. I'm just scared. I don't want you to ever hate me." She hadn't placed her hand in his yet, there was more she wanted to say.

"I never will. I love you more than anything, and next time you bring me back to life I'd like to go on a date with you."

She smiled up at him shyly.

"No sex?" She knew she was being cheeky, but she knew he loved that side of her.

"Not until we're married." He retorted, a smirk plastered on his face.

"You're no fun." She placed her hand in his as he pulled her to standing, wrapping her up in his arms and swaying with the music.

"I love you Princess, you have no idea how much. I just wish you'd open up to me more. We've been through so much, I just don't understand why you didn't say."

She sighed and leaned her head into his neck line.

"You began to turn like Luka. He'd always throw things in my face, make me feel guilty for not being what he wanted."

"Perhaps I still have a lot to learn too. But I want you to tell me if I'm being a jerk, I can take it."

She snuggled in closer to him.

"You mean more to me than anyone. I can't begin to put into words the feelings. The way I feel about you shouldn't be humanly possible, but it is because I feel it. You're not just my dorky cat-like partner, you're the base of my support. My hero, my confidant, you're the only one who can understand my life and you're amazing at it in and out of costume. But-"

"Don't you dare say it makes you think about Chat Blanc. We've been over this time and time again. It's an obstacle you put up to protect yourself, to protect your heart. Please just let me in. It's where I belong." Adrien held her tighter, placing a kiss on the top of her head.

"I'll try. I'll try so hard. You can ask me the question now."

She could feel his smile as his cheek pressed into her hair. Her beautiful curled hair.

"You sure?"

"Positive."

"Ok, you asked for it. Can we go and have sex at my place please?"

Marinette pulled away and smacked his chest. He was laughing his usual Chat way, obviously extremely happy with his trick. He looked over at his Bugaboo and attempted to pull himself together.

"Fine. Let's make love." She slapped him again and began to make her way back inside. He grabbed her waist and spun her back into his chest. Face-to-face, heart beating as one.

"Marinette Dupain-Cheng, the light of my life, the girl who makes me whole, my partner in anti-crime and the sexist woman to ever exist .... will you please be my girlfriend and allow me to show you off to the world?"

"Who's asking? Adrien or Chat Noir?"

"Now who's getting cheeky." They both laughed as Marinette reached on her toes to place a delicate kiss on his lips.

"I'd love to be your girlfriend if you'll have me."

The delicate kisses gave way to those heated in fire, and passion, which of course meant someone would see them.

Screams surrounded them as people ran from the party venue.

"Shit! It's Vanessa!" Adrien exclaimed.

"Come on, Kitty. We've got work to do."

Running hand in hand to the venue they called their transformations, ready to face another heartbroken akuma, ready to face another one which was their fault, but who cared because they were facing it together.
