Special chapter
Doing things a bit different this time. Now you get Tato's POV, so I hope you're ready!
--------
Tato sat anxiously at his desk waiting. Class was over, but he'd been asked to stay behind to talk to the Teacher.
He was nervous, overthinking as he so often did. He wondered if perhaps he was too rowdy with Taylor that day or something worse.
"Tato, you know why I told you to stay behind don't you?" The Teacher asked, fixing her gaze on the nervous boy.
"I...no not.. really.." He responded.
"You took an exam last week. But you received the lowest grade."
What? Tato couldn't have. He studied for hours, nearly didn't sleep just to be ready for it!
"Wait what? How?"
"It was found that you cheated on the exam."
Tato stared in shock, confused and a little pissed.
"There's no way! I didn't cheat!"
"Your score was much too perfect for you to have not cheated, and so you have to retake the exam tomorrow."
"I didn't cheat. I studied for ever just to be sure I knew the material!"
"Nevertheless, you have to retake the exam. That will be all, I need this prep period to prepare for the next class you're free to go." She dismissed him with a wave of her hand and he got up on shaking legs, leaving her classroom.
He was mad. He didn't cheat! How could she do that?! He felt like crying but grabbed his things from his locker, heading towards the doors. When he left the building and started down yeh sidewalk he bumped into someone, stumbling back with a yelp.
"Woah hey sweet potato, where you going in such a hurry?" Sam said with a laugh, catching him before he fell. But her smile faded when she saw his distressed expression.
"You good man?"
Tato shook his head, pushing past her to keep walking. She watched him for a second before following.
"What happened?"
"Nothing Sam."
"Well that's a lie and you're bad at lying."
Tato stopped with a frustrated sigh, wiping his eyes.
"I took an exam last week. Nearly studied myself into a coma, and Teach is accusing me of cheating just because my score was high. She's making me retake it.."
Sam scoffed, looking back at the school.
"Well that's frikin dumb. Who gave her that job anyway, obviously she's bad at it."
"Bad or not I have to take the test again or I flunk the class.."
"No, no way we're letting this slide."
Tato looked at Sam, shaking his head.
"It's too late, she already put the grade in she can't change it."
"Oh I'm not talking about the grade dude, shes obviously a sucky person. We gotta pay her back."
"....and how exactly are we supposed to do that?"
"Leave it to me. Meet me here tonight at eleven."
---------
Tato pulled his green jacket further around him as he walked down the silent sidewalk. He kept glancing around him, not wanting to be out here. He didn't like night walks because he was sorta paranoid.
"BOO!"
"AAAAAHHHH!"
Tato turned to run, trying to put distance between himself and his attacker when he heard a familiar voice laughing.
"You shoulda seen your face!" Sam cackled, wiping her eyes as she held her gut.
"S-sam that wasn't funny!" Tato said angrily, embarrassed at the situation.
"Not to you. But to me that was funny as heck." Sam walked to Tato and patted his shoulder.
"I couldn't resist it."
Tato just huffed and looked away, cheeks warm from embarrassment.
"...Jerk.."
"Aw thank you! Now come on."
Taking his hand she took off running down the street.
"Where are we going?"
"You'll see."
A few minutes later she stopped them in front of a house, pulling off her backpack that Tato just noticed she had on.
"What are we doing..?"
"Well. Your teacher is a shiitake mushroom, so we're gonna give her something to wipe her attitude with."
Tato watched as Sam pulled a few rolls of toilet paper from the backpack.
"No no, no way."
"Why not?"
"What if she knows it's me?"
Sam chuckled, handing him a roll.
"She won't. Now do you wanna get some pent up aggression out or not?"
"....."
Tato took the roll, looking at the house for a second before throwing it as high as he could. It hit the roof, trailing down a long stream of the paper as it fell.
"Yeah! Thats the spirit!"
The two of them singlehandedly used up almost two dozen rolls of toilet paper, covering the front lawn, the house, even the trees. And Tato loved every bit of it. But then a light across the street turned on, and a blue shouted out.
"YOU KIDS ARE IN BIG TROUBLE!"
"Ah shoot, run!"
Sam grabbed Tato again, and her backpack before sprinting off with him in tow. They got out of that neighborhood, reaching a park before they stopped and collapsed on a bench, panting for breath.
"Wow that was close." Tato said after they'd settled a bit.
"Yeah, but fun right?"
"Yeah actually...I needed that. Thank you."
Sam smiled, glad she could help him, and Tato smiled back before holding up a finger.
"Wait a second how did you find out where she lived?"
"I have my ways~." She said smirking.
Tato just deadpanned at her and she snorted, leaning back against the bench.
"I followed her home after you left."
"Wow."
"I know. I'm weird, but get used to it."
"No that's not why I said wow."
Sam looked at him with a brow raised and he smiled again.
"You're pretty awesome Sammy."
"...Sammy?"
He averted his gaze, nervously fiddling with his hands.
"Yeah I uh. I thought of the nickname. Uhm. If you hate it I won't call you that I just-."
Sam flicked his forehead, chuckling lightly.
"I like the name dingus. But only you can call me that. Anybody else does and they lose a kneecap."
"Heh, noted."
Sam looked out over the quiet park, her hand resting near Tato's. He noticed it, and tried to be chill but still managed to awkwardly shift his hand closer to hers. He didn't look at her, she didn't look at him, but their hands slowly intertwined.
He said nothing, she said nothing. And they sat there that way for a while. When Sam walked Tato home, they still held hands, and when it was time for them to part, Sam lightly squeezed his hand before letting go. Tato have her a wave, and went inside.
She put her hands in her pockets, smiling a little smile to herself as she whistled a tune, making her own way home. Tato went to bed that night with a smile of his own, his hand still warm.
