[Ch: 14] Assignment

Ella's POV.

I was sitting in the library waiting for my group. Our group consisted of Xaiden, me, Jessica, Sara and another boy named Jack. The teacher settled on making six groups of five members each. The students decided on to which group they wanted to join and whom they wanted to work with.

Miss Ruby took it as a good idea as everyone would be comfortable in working with those members with whom they were already affiliated. So Sara ended up making a group consisting of me, Xaiden and Jessica. As one member was lacking so Miss Ruby added Jack in our group. He wasn't much of a speaker in class, and we had never seen him hanging with anyone. By looking at him, one could think he likes to be alone.

Today we decided to get together in the library, after school, so we could discuss what we were going to do and how we would manage this one week time. I looked up to see Xaiden and followed by him the other three members. I smiled at him and he returned my smile.

Although it had been only a day since we became friends but I really liked spending time with him. He would make me smile, make me laugh and would always lighten up my mood. In short, he had added a bit fun in my once again boring life and now I think I did the right thing becoming a friend of his.

I was still afraid and scared of my dad. I could never let anyone find out about our friendship, especially my dad. He was so possessive and short temper that I didn't even want to think about the consequences if dad finds out about Xaiden.

I would never let him get hurt.

And now there was a new boy in the group. Although it was only for a week still, dad would never understand.

"Ella! Back to Earth." I heard Sara's voice and blinked my eyes looking at them. They all were staring at me confused.

"Sorry," I mumbled and lowered my head.

I should stop this zoning out.

We all were sitting in a round table and started giving our plans. We decided the theme of the song and then all decided to work on the lyrics together then we would compose it according to our instruments. Sara was an expert in violin whilst for Jessica, she loved playing the guitar, and for Jack! Well, I had seen him play the drums. Xaiden was learning the piano along me.

We were all set to start now. Only the question that arised was, where we would be practicing for this assignment. We couldn't just practice in the library and my dad being possessive, I knew he'd never allow me to go to anyone's place. And if... Just if, he did allow me to go, I bet I would be having full time bodyguards with me. So, a big no! I wasn't practically a fan of the idea of going to anyone's house.

"You should all come to my house. We can practice and prepare our song there," Sara said and every one agreed except me.

"No! I don't think I'll be able to."

"Why?" They all asked in unison and I didn't have any other choice but to lie.

"Actually my mom's not fine and I have to take care of her. So, it's hard for me to go anywhere," I lied and inwardly apologized to mom for making her sick.

Sorry, mum!

"Oh! So now what?" Xaiden sighed and I felt bad for ruining their enthusiasm.

"Uh... We can use the music room. We can practice one hour after school every day, and then after going home, I can help my mom," I was hoping that this would work and thank god they all agreed.

"We must take permission from our teacher," Jess said and I quickly replied. "I'll ask her, I'll be back in a minute." I stood up and headed out of the library.

"Wait!" I turned around to see non other than Jessica following me. "I'll accompany you," she said not looking towards me and I nodded.

It had been quite a while since we had talked. After that fight, she never even spoke to me whilst for me I always wanted to talk to her but never got the nerve to. We both were walking in silence towards the staff-room. None of us uttered a single word.

We entered the staffroom and asked for the permission to use the music room. The teacher agreed on that and gave us the permission as long as we won't break the rules or damage any of the school's property.

We assured her and thanked her for her kindness. Coming out of the staffroom, we headed back towards the library to give the news.

"Uh! Ella! I'm sorry." Jessica quickly uttered in the mid-way.

"Its okay," I muttered because I knew for what she was apologizing for. I didn't need to ask why or what because I was just glad that she realized it. It did hurt that time but I also couldn't bear this much distance between us. I had gotten friends after a really long time and I didn't want to lose them. So, I decided to bury the hatchet and let bygones be bygones. It was fine as long as she had realized her mistake.

"I'm really sorry. I...I shouldn't have said those words. You were just trying to help me and I acted like a bitch back then! Sorry!" She hung her head low and joined her hands together, apologizing. I stared at her, a bit shocked. She looked sincere and it did seem that she knew what she did was wrong. I held her hands in mine giving her an assurance. "I had forgiven you a long time ago. It's fine now, I just wanted to save you. I didn't want my best friend to get hurt. That's why I said all those words. I'm sorry too."

Her lips broke into a huge smile and she hugged me. "Thanks El! I missed you. I won't let any other of that fuck-boys come between us," she whispered. I stared at her and then shook my head. "Jess! Watch the mouth!"

"Sorry." She stuck out her tongue and chuckled.

"Well. No offence! But that name do suit him," I said, chuckling and then enveloped her in a hug.

"I missed you, Jess!" I smiled and my heart overwhelmed with happiness. "I missed you too, El!"

"Jess! You still don't have a crush on him. Do you?" I asked. She averted her eyes and looked down on her shoes. "To be honest, I kinda find him attractive but," she paused. "I know that I'll end up shattered. So, I think it's good to end before it starts turning to love. I know he won't ever make me happy. I..." She took in a deep breath.

"I think... you'll find someone thousand times greater than that fuckboy. You deserve a lot better." I assured her giving her a warm smile.

"You think?"

"Yup! Absolutely sure." I smiled. She frowned and scrunch up her nose. "You know Ella, we all three are hopeless romantics. We had never gotten the love we wanted."

I laughed at her words. "Jess! It's not that. It's just that we are too pretty to be handled. Those boys can never stand a chance in front of us queens." I batted my eyelashes and gave a proud arrogant look then flip my hair behind my shoulder and blew on my nails. Jessica stared at me, confused, I stared back and then we both burst out in laughing.

"That was a good act," Jessica said between laughs and I giggled. "Of course, I just never boast about my skills, you know. I was born this talented, a born actor." I gave her one more proud look like those of highly arrogant celebrities. I tried my hard to control my laughter as I tried to act as a rich spoiled brat. Jessica continued to laugh on seeing me like this. It was fun to have someone with whom you could joke around while you both would end up laughing.

Yes, I got my friend back.

We both headed towards the library while laughing. After telling others the news of getting permission, we all decided to meet in the music room at half past one, every day. We decided on our schedule and divided the seven days time. After settling all the stuff, we said our goodbyes and headed towards our houses. I was so happy today. I got my friends back and knowing that Jess didn't go on a date with that fuck boy, made me proud and relaxed.

Atleast, she did listen to me and I was glad for that. For me, that was all that mattered. I remembered the name Jess had given to Mike as a chuckle escaped my mouth. The name did suit him.
