Rain

I reached NY at 10 in the night, and called Derek, he has already reached at Airport and was waiting for me at the checkout. I spotted him immediately. When I approached him, he gave me a crooked smile, I  nodded at him but didn't return the whole favour.

I was pissed because I was forced to be somewhere I didn't want to come. I know it isn't Derek's fault, but I don't care right now, there is a huge gaping hole inside my chest, I didn't want to leave my Dad, not yet atleast.

We reached the parking lot, he opened the door and gestured for me to get inside.

There is an uncomfortable silence in the car and I don't know how to break it because I don't have anything to say to him right now.

"How have you been?" He asked calmly.

"Alive, not dead yet, I guess." I said indifferently.

He chuckled at my choice of words.

"Atleast, there  is someone who is having fun in my misery." I wasn't offended but what I said was the truth, I am barely alive at this point.

"No, I mean, not in that way, just.....you know, it was very abrupt." He stuttered.

"Relax, I know you didn't meant that way and I am not offended." I was looking outside the window as I heard him sigh, there were no stars in the sky, it was pitch dark and cloudy, just like my life right now.

"You know you are the first person who has asked me, 'How have I been' since my life has fallen apart. And I seriously don't know what to answer, because all I feel is numb and hollow from inside, I am tired, tired from thinking about what is happening and what will happen."

"I think I am scared also because I am gonna enter into an unknown territory, where I don't know who is my enemy and who is my friend." I don't know why I am telling him all this, maybe because I couldn't hold it inside me anymore, I was feeling helpless right now.

I felt his gaze on me, so I looked to his side, there was a look in his eyes, which I can't fathom correctly, was it understanding? what I know is, it was not pity which he gave me last time when he was at my house.

He didn't say anything and looked forward, that silence was back again, I closed my eyes and didn't realise when I drifted off to sleep.

I woke up at the sound of someone calling my name, "Dad?" I asked in a croaked voice.

I opened my eyes to see it was Derek. Oh, right I completely forgot that I was not in Seattle anymore. I sat upright, " I am sorry, I didn't realise when I dozed off."

"No worries, he said nonchalantly. I looked around and we were in a parking lot, which I have never seen before.

"Where are we?" I asked him confused.

"Listen, there is no need to freak out, I was already gonna tell you before but you fall asleep and I didn't disturb you because I thought you needed it."

"Look, I want you to know that I know  now why are you doing all this and also about your father's accident." I inhaled in a sharp breath, "How?"

He must have seen the shocked look on my face, so, he clarified himself, " No, Gianna didn't tell me, actually, I digged in the matter, and followed the transaction of money and found out about the accident through hospital, so I added two and two, and from your reaction I know I reached on the right conclusion, you are doing it for your father."

"I..I.." I couldn't make out a word from my mouth, because I didn't know what to say, has he already told Miles about it?

"You don't have to worry, I didn't tell anyone, Gianna also doesn't know that I know all this."

"Why are you telling me this? And why didn't you tell Miles about it?"

"That's why I am telling you this, I want you to know that I am not your enemy, I knew the second I met you that you are not cut out for this industry, you are here because of the circumstances, like I was, I was also scared and alone, when I first entered in this world."

"But why would you help me? What makes you think I would trust you blindly? For all I know, it could be a plan of Gianna, to make you say these things, so you guys can use me as one of your pawn?"

"I know I have nothing to show my sincerity to you other than my words right now, but overtime you will see and the reason I am helping you because somewhere I see the younger myself in you, there were many things I couldn't do for myself, still can't do, but I want to help you, that's all I know, and it all depends on you to trust me."

"I don't know what to say, I think only time will tell how much of this is true and how much of this is a lie, but can you please tell me now, where the hell are we, because it really isn't helping the situation." He nodded at me.

"We are here to meet Gianna and Miles." He said while shrugging his shoulders.

"And where exactly 'here' are we?" I asked in a little raised voice.

"Um.. Miles apartment." He said with raised brows, implying he is innocent.

"What? Why?"

"I don't know, I was told to bring you here, Gianna wanted to meet you and was saying ' She had something important to talk to you about', so here we are."

"But..."

"Why are you freaking out so much, it should not bother you that much, afterall eventually you will have to live here for next six months, isn't it?"

"I know that, but.." He cut me off.

"I don't want to hear anymore excuses from you, we are getting out, right now, the more you'll think, the more you'll hesitate."

" Stop that." Derek said with annoyance on his face, we were in the elevator, and I was continuously tapping my foot on the floor, but what can I do, I can't seem to stop myself from getting nervous, it's the first time I am gonna face Miles after that night, a lot has changed since then, and last time it didn't end on a good note, hell it was a complete mess.

I don't even know what he thinks about me. I heard the ding of the elevator and the gates of hell opened. I took a deep breath and stepped out of it.

Whoever has said that," If you want to know about a person, take a good look at his house, it shows the true personality of the person living in that house." 

I would say he was totally right about it, because I can totally imagine Miles living here, his house totally matches his personality, dark, mysterious and intimidating.

"Oh Look! who is here." Someone said mockingly. I turned towards the owner of the voice and there he was, Miles, He was coming towards us, with a drink in his hand and behind him was Gianna.

He was looking slightly angry and I think I understand because like me, he also doesn't want to be in this situation.

"Welcome, Rain." Gianna said with a wide smile at her face and I nodded at her, because she doesn't even deserve any politeness.

"Come with me." She gestured for me to follow. " Uh, Derek, that's it for you today, you can take your leave now, we have something important to discuss with Rain, you won't be needed anymore." Gianna ordered to him.

"But...." I don't know why I didn't like that, maybe because I don't want be alone with these two, I just know that I'll feel at ease,with him being here.

"Yes, Darling?"

"Um.. nothing."

"Yeah, that's what I thought, Derek you can leave now." She said and walked away, I looked back at Derek and he mouthed ' Will you be okay? ' and this time I gave him a smile and nodded.

"I see you already have established your roots, what else can we expect from someone like you?" Miles said with disdain in his voice. I didn't realise that he was still standing here.

"You have no right to talk to me like that, you don't know me." I said and walked away from him.
