Chapter 4
╰┈➤ ❝ [the angel's mayhem.]
Third Person POV
"Get ready and dress up."
Your father, Enji L/n commanded as you were eating breakfast in the dining hall, you were eating lazily, you lost energy after you fainted last night, and when you woke up in your room, you were too busy crying, still in denial.
"We will go to a masquerade ball."
"No." You thought as your grip on the spoon and fork tightens.
"Mr. Goro Kokonoi wants a family dinner later, and you'll meet your future husband."
"Shut the fuck up."
"You'll be signing a contract as well—"
After hearing his words, you merely nodded and stood up, feeling fueled as it emitted a loud screech from the chair that that drew the attention of the servants and maids in the dining hall, including your nurse Nalia and father.
"Watch your manners, Y/n." Your father said.
And there, you ran outside of the dining hall and went in your room, you slide down your bed as you didn't want to go out of your room. You felt so tired and fatigued, you lost all your appetite as well.
But in the end, you had no choice.
"It's nice to meet you again, Mr. Enji L/n."
Koko's father and yours exchanged handshakes.
"Likewise."
Koko's father named Goro introduced his wife as you and your father went inside the large ballroom.
The ballroom was like those types of castles during the 1800s, with extravagant and sculpted calcite marble walls, a large chandelier at the middle, and gold color schemes.
Everyone was wearing a mask that covered half of their faces, some with jewels that almost outshined the lights.
While yours was gold with white feathers that has silver glitters and diamonds, it covered the upper half of your face with only your mouth showing.
Your outfit consisted of a long silver dress with a speck of gold glitters, a bare slit at the side due to only having one strap on the shoulder, and a fabric around your neck, with both golden earrings dangling from your ears; your jewelry, as well as your entire costume, were all exquisite.
You honestly wanted to go home, because you've never met the man you'll marry, and he could be an old man.
And you were disgusted by the thought of it.
You never desired to be married, but if it's him?
You'll gladly do so.
As long as he didn't change.
And he's still the same childhood best friend you knew.
"This is my wife, Asami Kokonoi." Goro introduced, you blinked and clicked back to reality, I need to stop hallucinating, you thought.
"Kokonoi?" You thought as the name sounds familiar.
You shook your head, thinking there was a lot more Kokonoi in the world, it must be impossible.
"We are only three in our family." Goro said.
"Oh! Y/n! Such a beautiful lady, I'm sure my son will love you." Asami said while you smiled and lowered your head.
"Thank you."
"Where's our son?" You saw Goro leaning to his wife as he whispered.
"Ah please, Mr. Enji L/n and Y/n, excuse us for a while." Asami and Goro said as they motioned the servants to serve the foods and call their son.
"Yes, of course, take your time." Your father smiled.
You glanced at your father and sighed, your hands were trembling, and you didn't know if it's because of the cold atmosphere or nervousness.
"He's here."
You clicked back to reality as you heard them, you sighed as you tapped your father on the side.
"I'm scared." You whispered, but he just scolded you and sighed, telling you that it'll be okay, just hang on a second, but you know that it's all useless and didn't make you feel better.
"Come here, son."
As you heard them, you looked at the ballroom large entrance.
And there, you saw the man that you are marrying... with force and contract.
Your heart pounded loudly as he walked, he was surely outstanding in the large crowd.
You can't see his face clearly due to the mask, but he was familiar.
It couldn't be him, right?
"The ball will start in a minute." Asami said as you clicked back to reality.
It finally started after a few minutes, and you were standing in the middle of the ballroom with the crowd, looking around at people dancing casually, mostly adult business people dressed lavishly.
You were just swaying around until the music changed, people walked and formed a certain position, and you looked around confusingly, realizing everyone has a partner.
You were about to walk away until someone grabbed your arm and pulled you.
"Huh—?"
"Just go with the flow, this will end soon." He whispered.
Your eyes widened as you recognized his voice, but it wasn't the same soothing tone you remembered from years ago... It sounded like it was full of thorns, was sorrowful, melancholy, and it just felt forced.
You looked back and saw that it was the same man from a while ago.
He has white hair parted to the side, a black suit, expensive perfume and jewelry, and a black mask with golden gemstones decorative in the corners, similar to yours but his mask was black.
You looked at him straight in the eyes and saw how they were so familiar, that's what caught you the most.
"It couldn't be him... right?" You blinked as he grabbed your hands and waist then swayed with the music flow, and you almost flinched as you felt his cold hand touch yours.
"Who are you?"
"Who are you?"
You both said in unison.
"Are you—?" You said.
"I'm the one you'll marry on the contract," He said. "Even though I refused."
"I refused as well don't think I'm enjoying this." You retorted.
"Damn, I think my husband is abusive." You almost shrieked from the thought.
As the rhythm of the music flow changed, the dance steps changed, the men bowed to their partners as they grabbed their hands and does a livelier step, you were taken aback as he did the same as well.
"How can I marry you if you don't even know how to do a simple dance?" He said with annoyance.
"Oh please, get another partner then." You said as you try to pry your hand away from his grip but he only tightens it more.
"If only I can, but my parents forced me to dance and interact with you, or they'll punish me," He said, you saw him roll his eyes. "So, act up, don't get me into more trouble."
You felt the tension between you grow, the dark gazes from his searing eyes never left you, only the heavy flow aura from the music filled the ballroom, and you were nearly lost in the energy radiating off of him.
Finally, after some minutes, the dance ended, you quickly averted your gaze away from him and removed his hand from your hand and waist, you walked away and went to your father.
"Daughter, how was it?" He asked smiling as he was sitting with Goro and Asami.
"Good." You simply responded with lies.
"Ah, did my son and you get along well?" Koko's mother asked, smiling, and you barely nodded and smiled back, even though it was completely the opposite.
"I'll go to the balcony first to get some fresh air, please excuse me." You bowed to the elders as you walked away.
As you approached the vast golden stairwell of the ballroom, you were greeted by a large glass door that led to the large balcony.
It was no doubt that this building was like a castle.
You walked to the balcony, opened the large door, and gazed up to see the large moon and numerous sparkling stars in the sky; it was a dark sky, and it felt lonely.
"You're here."
You didn't realize anyone else was around until you looked at your side and saw the man that you'll marry leaning against the balcony's balustrade railings with a glass of wine in his hand.
"I didn't know you were here—"
"Show your face." He commanded straightly as he cuts you off.
"I'll show mine if you show yours first."
He sighed and reached for his mask, which he slowly removed and then faced you.
Your heart and stomach sank, eyes widened as you gripped your dress, mouth agape as you saw the man in front of you.
It was him.
It feels like time has stopped as your eyes met with him, you were sure it was him... it was him from years ago.
"H-Hajime Kokonoi...?"
