Chapter 20: Waking Up
Song- "Radioactive" by Imagine Dragons

The wall shook and debris was launched into the air as water and earth flew into the sky.
Everyone on the wall looked to me, and I straightened and stretched my hands out, and darkness shot out and speared a group of orcs near the front line, a volley of arrows joining my offense.
Not today, Saruman. You will not win today. Not today, father. I will defeat you.
Suddenly, another explosion as a second weapon was thrown at the sewage drain in the wall went off and I was thrown back into several men.
Men and elves fell as the wall crumpled and orcs ran for the entrance.
"Oh no you don't," I grunted as I raised my hands and dug deep into my well of power and raised up thorns and roots to block the orcs from entering the fortress' hole.
I held onto that wall and yelled at the men to keep shooting at the orcs and to not stop, screaming the same order in Sindarin to the other elves.
They did so without complaint. I was feeling weaker, struggling to hold onto everything.
Suddenly, the sun began to rise over the hill and I squinted as a light brighter than the sun flooded the valley and Gandalf appeared on a white horse, behind him a green dragon and countless riders thundering down the hill and towards the orcs, trapping them between them and the walls of the forest.
Freya had done it. Freya and Gandalf.
Exhaustion swept over me, and I knew I had to do one last thing before I passed out.
I willed myself to create more roots and thorns around the hole in the wall, but I didn't finish it, because something hard hit the back of my head and I lost consciousness.

I woke up with a start, sucking in a sharp breath and wincing as my head pounded. A hand touched my cheek and I opened my eyes to see Aragorn leaning over me, eyebrows furrowed in concern.
"Imara?" He whispered.
"Hi." I replied through gritted teeth. "What in Illuvitar's name struck me?"
Aragorn flinched. "An orc with a shield. He charged you, even with several arrows in him to stop you from building up that wall. How did you do that anyways?" He asks and frowns.
I rubbed at my forehead and said, "My father and I are very similar. He was a Maiar before he fell to evil. He had superhuman strength and could control the earth and make earthquakes and move the earth, as did Morgoth. I inherited his abilities of earth manipulation, and then fire immunity, and telepathy. It's how I can find Baldor and others from great distances by searching for their minds."
He raised both eyebrows. "Wow..." he mumbled. "I had no idea."
I shrugged. "You are only, what, a couple hundreds of years younger than me?" I asked with a small smirk and he rolled his eyes.
He leaned forward and pressed a kiss to my forehead. He had only made it out with a few cuts and bruises, and I was thankful. Before he could pull away, I threw my arms around his shoulders. He chuckled, moved his arms under and around me, his forehead resting on mine.
"What's this?" He asks with a teasing smile.
"I want you to stay here so I can hold you." I said softly.
His brown eyes softened, and he kissed me once, gently, then said, "Then allow me to make it easier." He gently moved my arms and then stood and laid down on his side next to me and I rolled over and hugged him again, this time stuffing my face in his chest. His fingers lazily combed through my hair.
"Any particular reason you want to suddenly hug me to death, my love?" He whispers, but not in a teasing manner, but gently as he kissed the top of my head tenderly.
I bit my lip, then said, "No. I just wanted to cuddle you. You're warmer than this stupid room."
He nodded and kissed my head again. "Ok."
I didn't mention the fact that as I passed out, I saw the red eye of Sauron staring at me. My closeness to Mordor wasn't good, and that meant he was looking for me.
And I had a feeling deep down that he had found me.

That night, there was a feast in the dining hall, and there was a drinking game underway at our table. Gimli, Boromir, Legolas, Baldor, and Draco had taken it upon themselves to see who could drink the most without falling on their faces.
I had little hope for Gimli and Boromir, and not much for Draco. While he was immortal, he still had mortal blood in him, as his mother was turned after he and Freya were born. But I guess we'd have to see
if the immortal or mortal part of him would allow him to hold his alcohol.
Freya's reunion with her mother was one of many tears and big hugs. She sat between me and Arielle, watching her husband with an amused expression.
Aragorn sat next to me, arm around my shoulders as he sipped slowly from a glass of sweet wine, my own cup in my hands and away from the empty mugs of ale on the table.
Gimli was giggling into his cup and Baldor was only slightly buzzed, Legolas staring apprehensively at his fingers.
Draco smirked at Eowyn over his cup and slurred, "I'm not sure it has much of a hold on me yet."
Boromir began to laugh loudly and he slapped his brother-in-law on the back. "You're an immortal dragon. Hardly surprising, Draco." He paused. "Why is your name Draco?"
Baldor looked over at him and went to say something when Arielle cut in, "Because I liked it."
"And it means dragon." Baldor mumbled into his cup, sending his wife a devious smirk. Arielle smiled back at him.
Boromir thought this was hilarious and he and Gimli burst out laughing. "You, a dragon, named your dragon son 'dragon'."
Draco gave an offended gasp. "I like my name."
"Ok, dragon dragon." Boromir said mockingly and fell back into a fit of hysterics. Draco scowled at them.
I smirked as Gimli began to mumble about dwarf women, grinning and laughing between hiccups and burps.
"I think it's starting to affect me." Legolas said suddenly, studying his hand with a lost expression, and blue eyes bright. "I feel a slight tingling in my fingers."
Baldor leaned over to look at his hand and mumbled, "You know, me too."
"Same." Draco said and stared at his own hand and blinked rapidly.
Eowyn, Freya, and Arielle were hardly holding in their laughter at their men being buffoons. I rested my head on Aragorn's shoulder, glad he was at least a little more sane.
"You think you're getting drunk?" Boromir slurred, looking over Draco's shoulder at their hands.
"Perhaps." Legolas mumbled.
"Nah. Maybe just buzzed." Baldor said with a shrug. He then picked up another mug and downed it, slamming the empty mug on the table and wiping his mouth on his sleeve. "But the goal here is to change that."
Gimli began to laugh, as did Boromir. "Ha! Yes! That's the spirit!" Gimli splutters as he takes a long pull from another goblet, tilting back, as his chair did, and he fell to the ground with a heap, his eyes rolling back as he passed out.
I snorted as the dwarf toppled backwards and looked up as Boromir stood up and slurred, "You want to know what today is? It marks the Eve of Yuletide. A time for celebration indeed! Ha-ha!" He then proceeded to wander off into the crowd and demand to know what was being done for this "Yuletide".
"What is Yuletide?" I asked and everyone at the table looked at me as if I had asked the most idiotic question on the planet.
"You really don't know what it is?" Arielle asked.
"No. I don't." I said, feeling somewhat defensive.
"There are no holidays in Mordor." Baldor mumbled into his cup as he took another sip. "Mordor is a hard place, with hard times only. It's hell incarnate. Eat or be eaten sorta thing. There would have been no way for Imara to know about it because she didn't leave home like I did."
I clenched my jaw and tightened my hands around my cup. "I couldn't exactly leave home unless given permission, Baldor."
He smirked. "Or you didn't want to. I know you, Imara. You're smart. You only do things for yourself, or if it will benefit you in some way. You're selfish." He stood up from his chair and I narrowed my eyes at him.
"Baldor. Stop it. You've had and said enough." Arielle said, standing to take the tankard from her husband's hands.
He lifted the drink above Arielle's head, which wasn't hard considering she was nearly half his height. He looked at me and said, "It's why you locked me in Lothlorien. So you didn't have to worry about the messes I caused anymore. So you could call on me later to use in your little battle against dad. Like you've ever fought him once in your entire life."
I glared at him and Freya stood and said, "Dad, stop it. You're drunk. You don't know what you're saying."
"No I know exactly what I'm saying." Baldor slurred. "You honestly can't expect these humans to trust you, Imara. Elrond even said you're going to turn on us again- it's why his sons came to threaten you and me that day. You-"
I glared at him and stood, shadows darkening the corner of the room we sat in as I slammed my palms on the table. "Baldor. Enough. Perhaps you need to return to your chambers. A drinking game seems too much for you."
Baldor sneered back, "Classic, dear sister. Forever gaslighting me to do your bidding." He looked at Aragorn. "You did some job picking this one-"
I shadow traveled over the table, grabbed Baldor by the shirt and teleported outside and shoved him to the ground, my eyes going slightly red. "Those words aren't yours, brother. The Baldor I know isn't an insufferable dick." I glared as he slowly got to his feet, shaking slightly. "Get out of his head, father. You're not welcome there anymore." I snarled in Black Speech.
Baldor looked up at me, his eyes glazing over as our father's voice hissed from his mouth, "You are wise, Imara, but a fool. You did not really think that you were rid of me forever, now did you?"
There was a group of people exiting the hall, and knowing they couldn't see this, I swept us into shadows and into a nearby cave.
"You have a lot of gall, father, to grab ahold of Baldor's mind like this. You know I can get you out. You're weak outside of Mordor." I snarled.
"Treasonous Daughter." Sauron's voice hissed. "I told you to kill him, didn't I? For his own traitorous decisions."
"Then punish me. I'm the one that disobeyed you."
"No. I think I'll punish him instead. Seeing as you love him so much, it would be punishment enough." Sauron snarled and Baldor's face went ashen and he released a scream and fell to his knees, holding his head.
"Baldor!" I shouted and knelt in front of him, gripping his wrists.
He looked at me, tears streaming down his face as he grit out, "G-Get out of here, I-Imara. I can't hold him b-back."
"No." I said firmly. "No, I will not. And you're going to fight, you hear me? For Freya. For Draco. For Arielle. For me. For Legolas and Gimli and your son and daughter-in-law. You have family, Baldor. Family that needs you." His eyes flashed reptilian and scales began to spread across his skin. But I remained.
"Baldor! Fight this!"
He clenched his jaw, eyes turning reptilian and red, and I knew it was too late.
