Chapter 5

The quinjet was completely silent except for the buzz of the engine and the light whisper of Tony on a phone call at the front. Diana sat there, partially terrified, partially relieved, and partially in awe. She too sat in complete silence, while looking around at the high-tech jet. She stared at the older teen, more curious about her by the second. The little witch wasn't the greatest with her powers, however, she couldn't read Mia's mind no matter how hard she tried.

"Is your back okay?" The brunette asked, quietly.

The small redhead turned around, surprised to hear the enhanced speak. "Oh... it's fine," she assured the younger girl.

Diana's face contoured with concern. "It's bleeding. Do you want me to fix it up?" Mia hesitated to answer, she really didn't need the help and she was still a little hesitant on trusting the smaller girl. "You don't want it getting infected," the witch pointed out after a moment of seeing her hesitation.

The widow agreed reluctantly, seeing as Diana had a point. She unzipped the top of her suit – well what was left of the zipper anyway, Tony was going to need to fix that – pulled sleeves off, and the front of it down. She tied the sleeves around her waist so the rest of it was secure, leaving her in what was basically pants and a sports bra. Diana saw the large cut mark on her back and inhaled sharply. It was completely surrounded in blood, as it hadn't been taken care of yet. "That bad?" Mia asked, hearing the other girl's reaction.

"It's not good, that's for sure," she muttered, earning a silent chuckle out of Mia, which she didn't know happened. "Where's the first aid kit?"

The redhead pointed to a drawer not far from them. Diana walked over there to grab it and saw a couple of the other Avengers watching her. She decided to ignore it for now and focus on Mia.

She took a damp towel and cleaned around the cut, getting as much of the blood off the older girl's back as possible. When it came time to actually clean the cut and bandage it, the widow's back tightened the second something touched it. "You okay?" Diana asked hesitantly, not wanting to hurt her more.

"Yeah, I'm fine." Which was half true. Mia obviously had a high pain tolerance, yet it did hurt a little. She wasn't going to tell that to Diana though.

While the teenagers were dealing with Mia's back, Bucky was completely distracted. That was until he wasn't, and noticed his daughter standing there in just a sports bra. He went full overprotective dad mode, especially with the kid he still didn't trust yet being the one fixing it. Walking over to the girls, he took his vest off and put it on Mia, giving Diana a light glare in the process. Mia stuck her hands in the pockets – completely oblivious to the look her father just gave Diana – and whispered, "Pockets~", excitedly.

"Where'd that come from?" Bucky asked.

Mia looked up to him for the first time on the jet, "Green Guy."

The brunette didn't change a bit on the outside but internally panicked under the former HYDRA experiment's gaze. Obviously, she knew who he was, having been born into HYDRA you heard a LOT about the Winter Soldier.

The little witch finished patching up the redhead's back with Bucky still watching. "You're done," she said in a low voice, which would've sounded threatening to a normal person.

"Thanks." Mia handed the vest to her dad, put her suit on properly, then took the vest back.

"Where are we?" Diana asked, looking out a window.

"We're heading to a safe house," Tony said to the voice he didn't recognize.

Mia smirked and looked at Clint, hoping they were going where she thought they were. Clint just turned and gave her a nod, smiling lightly, before turning back. She walked up to the cockpit, causing Tony and Clint to face her.

"What was that with the Maximoff kid?" Clint asked.

"She fixed up the cut on my back?" Mia answered, more as a question.

"And you trusted her to do that... why?" Tony questioned. "You could've asked any of us to do that."

The young Romanoff shrugged. "She asked. Besides, she's not gonna hurt me."

"You sound really sure of that for barely knowing her, kid."

"Trust me. Plus, if anything happens I could end her in seconds. And she could get into my head. We both know whatever the outcome, it's a lose-lose situation."

A few moments later the jet landed at the so-called 'safe house'. This safe house was actually just Clint's house, which excited Mia.

They walked into the house and all the Avengers had questions, well, except the Widows and Hawkeye. Diana walked around the shockingly nice house in awe, she had never left a HYDRA base, everything was going to shock her. She snapped out of it when she saw two kids run in, one of them running straight into her father's arms.

"Did you bring Auntie Nat and Cousin Mia?" the little girl asked excitedly.

Natasha and Mia showed up right behind Clint and the older told her, "Why don't you hug them and find out?"

Lila practically jumped out of her father's arm and ran into Natasha's. She hugged her aunt figure before Mia scooped her up and put her on her hip. The little redhead was really unsure about kids when she started going to Clint's with her mom. However, these two grew on her and she couldn't wait to have a third one.

"Mia, can you and Diana go to the guest room?"

Mia nodded and set Lila down. "Go see mom, okay?" She whispered. Lila nodded and ran off. "Come on," she said quietly to the brunette.

Almost the second the two started walking, Mia felt the need to make things clear. "Touch them, and you'll be dead before you can even process what happened," she whispered, looking straight ahead. After a second she turned her head and gave Diana the sweetest smile imaginable.

Diana put her hands up in defense and pursed her lips lightly. "There go my plans," she joked, dryly. She immediately put her hands and head down after seeing the glare Mia sent her.

They sat in the guest room for a while in complete silence. Diana spent most of it staring at Mia, still intrigued by her. However, to Mia, she was just staring at her like a predator stalking its prey. "Why're you staring at me?"

"Why were you nice to me?"

Mia wasn't expecting that response, so it took her a second to answer. "I believe everyone deserves a second chance. I was given one, so why not give you one? I just can't fully trust you yet."

The Maximoff didn't respond and instead, her eyes wandered around the room. Everything amused her, even if she didn't show it.

"Are you hungry?" Mia asked. She remembered when she first got out of the HYDRA. They barely fed you, and what they did was not good.

Diana just nodded lightly. The Romanoff nodded her head towards the door in a 'Follow Me' manner.

They got to the kitchen and Mia kept asking Diana strange questions like 'Do you like cheese?' And 'Do you like Bread?' What kind of questions are those? Who doesn't like cheese and bread? Apparently, Mia was making her a 'Grilled Cheese'. Why they were grilling cheese was beyond her, but hey, Mia said it was good.

While making the food for the girls, Mia heard a crash. Hearing a crash literally means nothing at the tower. It could mean someone tripped, someone was training, something fell, or someone was an idiot. However, when she remembered she was not at the tower, and it was probably one of the kids, she bolted around the kitchen island. Only to see Diana sitting on the floor making pretty lights with her powers to entertain a once crying Lila. Mia couldn't believe her eyes, so she took a video to make sure she wasn't hallucinating.

Lila calmed down and Diana picked her up, without thinking. Diana knew she looked intimidating, so she used a trick she learned while manipulating people, which was making her voice higher pitched and widening her eyes slightly. "See? You're ok," the little witch gave the little Barton a smile as she giggled.

Lila turned her head and saw Mia standing there. "Mia!" She held her arms out to signal she wanted to go to her.

Mia smiled and quickly put the grilled cheeses on plates, turning off the stove. "Hey kiddo, what're you doing here?" She asked as she took Lila from Diana.

"I heard you in here so I wanted to come see you. I tripped but she showed me pretty lights!" Lila pointed to Diana.

"Oh, that's so cool!" Mia told the little girl. "Do you want some grilled cheese?"

Lila shook her head. "Mom said it's time for dinner soon. I could want some candy though."

"Nu-uh missy, you are not getting candy right now," Mia tickled her stomach and laughter filled the room. She set down Lila and said, "Why don't you go play with Cooper?" before she ran off.

Mia smiled and turned to Diana without thinking. Diana looked so different when dealing with Lila than she did normally, while Diana thought the same about Mia. Mia cleared her throat awkwardly. "Uh, your grilled cheese is done."

"Thank you," Diana said quietly, taking the plate from her. She stared at the sandwich which was cut into two triangles for almost two minutes before touching it. She picked it up and sniffed it before taking a small bite out of it. "Oh my god," she whispered with her mouth full. She quickly took another, bigger, bite. "This is amazing," her sounds were muffled because she had food in her mouth, but her eyes were wider than an elephant.

Mia laughed lightly at her reaction, taking a bite of her own grilled cheese. "It's good, right?"

The brunette nodded quickly, earning another small laugh out of the redhead.
