Chapter 4

The next morning, the team started going through every file they had on any known associates of Strucker's. They managed to settle on an individual whose name sparked something in Tony's mind – Ulysses Klaude. He was located in Salvage Yard, South Africa and the team quickly got in their suits and boarded the quinjet to get there. However, they got there a bit too late. Ultron and the enhanced from Sokovia were already there and the battle started almost instantly as Ulysses' men started firing.

Just like before, Pietro messed with everyone – especially Clint – using his super speed. The archer and his best friend worked together – the woman took men down in a more secluded area and he kept the entrance safe by shooting arrows wherever they were needed. Bucky and Steve were doing their best in another part of the facility, Thor and Banner on the ground level whilst Tony and Mia were pretty much everywhere. The doctor managed to leave, but he turned green and started destroying a nearby city. Wanda carefully crept up behind the god, then the soldiers, and then the Widow, playing mind games with all of them.

Mia was looking for the little witch, wanting to take her turn in the fight with her, when she saw Wanda going towards Natasha. She used her powers to get next to them and then flew the Sokovian off the platform.

"You seriously chose the wrong family to mess with," she mumbled as she turned to her mom.

However, she got there a bit too late. Wanda has already got in her head and panic contoured the Russian's face as flashes of the Red Room flooded her memory. The spark in her eyes was now replaced with a blank expression. The teenager was now the worried one. She rushed to Natasha's side, trying to snap her out of it. The next Avenger on Wanda's list of mind games was Clint.

However, he was quicker – he stuck a taser arrow on her forehead. "Tried the whole mind game thing. Not a fan."

Pietro ran in and picked up Wanda as the archer took the arrow off and zoomed out of the building with her fallen sister.

"Nat, we need a lullaby," Tony said over the comms, unaware of the situation his family was in.

Clint replied as he got to his best friend. "I don't think that's gonna happen. You got no back up here. The whole team is down."

"I'm good, I can try," the teenager shot back as she exchanged looks with the man who had grown to be like an uncle to her. "Just tell me where you guys are, Stark."

Tony simply said, "Get in the air and you'll see."

"Are you sure about this?" asked Clint.

"Yeah," she reassured, her voice cracking in the middle. "It's gonna be fun."

Barton sighed, still unsure of this. The lullaby never worked with any of them, just with Nat. "Just be careful."

"And you take care of mom. Try to get everyone on the jet. The boys and I will meet you there," she said and went to deal with Hulk, leaving Hawkeye pleasantly impressed by her authority.

She got there fairly quickly since she could use her powers to fly. "Hey there, big guy. The sun's getting re-" The widow was hit by him, thrown straight in a building. "Not cool, Banner." She got up and tried again, this time with a little bit of help from Tony to keep him still. "The sun's getting real low."

Banner calmed down a bit, but he was still green. He hit Mia in the back with a huge piece of metal, tearing her white stealth suit which slowly soaked with her crimson blood.

"In the back? Dick move, dude."

"That's it. I'm callin' in Veronica," announced the billionaire, his voice more serious than ever.

Mia simply got up and shook it off. "Don't just yet. It worked a bit. Lemme try again."

"Fine. One more try. I'm not watching you do this to yourself, kid."

This time, to everyone's surprise, it worked. Banner was back to his docile self and Tony flew him back to the quinjet, leaving the Widow to trail behind, too worn out to use her powers to fly back. The mini Maximoff snuck up on the redhead which was cursing under her breath in Russian. Mia was thinking about where Diana was because she wasn't with Wanda or Pietro. Diana slowly brought her shaking hand to hover over the taller girl's back. She tapped her lightly, jumping back when Mia whipped around.

"Don't hurt me!" Diana exclaimed, bringing her hands up and creating a purple energy force in front of her.

"Why shouldn't I?" The young Widow asked threateningly. A hand was on her thigh holster, not wanting to use her powers on the younger girl. "Let's ditch the powers and see if you're that tough."

The brunette moved her arms and the purple force field went away. "I'm not gonna hurt you, I just want to talk," she said, her accent somehow stronger than it was before.

Mia raised her eyebrows lightly but didn't say anything. If any of the team was there they would've told her that she looked just like her mom. She didn't move her hand but her shoulders relaxed slightly. "Ok..."

"Who are you guys? Because I always grew up thinking you were the bad guys but what Strucker's doing isn't right and Ultron isn't good," Diana talked quickly, as she was extremely nervous. You couldn't tell from her dark and hard exterior, but she was terrified. She'd never even seen someone close to her age and this girl seemed like she could snap her neck in an instant. "I don't know what my mom and uncle were thinking when they signed up for this, but I would do anything to get out of here."

Mia stared at the other girl, she was intrigued by what she had to say, but nothing would prepare her for what Diana would tell her.

"I was born in a cage, too. Born into all this madness, used as a weapon, just like you. All I wanted for as long as I can remember was to get out... just. Like. you." Diana put emphasis on every word at the end, to get through to her. Was it manipulating? Slightly, but can you blame her? She was raised to lie and manipulate, and this was for a good reason.

Mia's whole expression softened and she moved her hand off the gun, without noticing it. "Do you really want to get out of this? And do what's right?" she asked in a soft voice. Mia was a very patient person and she didn't want to frighten the smaller girl. Natasha being gentle with her when they first met was the only reason Mia warmed up to everyone, it was only fair she did the same for Diana.

Diana stood there thinking about it for a moment. Was she really ready to leave everything, including her mom and uncle? Well, she could try to convince them later, for now, she really just wanted out of this. "Yes." She stated sternly.

"Okay. Just don't get in my head again," she instructed the younger girl. "I can barely get two hours of sleep as it is," she thought before saying, "The kid's with us," over the comms.

"Just like that? And you trust her?" a suspicious Clint asked.

"You trusted me back in Russia even though you had no reason to."

Mia was right, they had no reason to trust her back then and Clint was aware of that. "You've got a good heart, kid."

She smiled softly and looked at Diana who was still standing in front of her. "What should I do with her?"

"Come to the jet, we have to get out of here," Tony instructed. "Nice work, purple."
