Chapter Twenty-Eight
After retrieving the Master Sword, Link and I made our way back into Ordon. We traveled back through the treacherous Faron Woods, running into a few obstacles along the way. Our trip gave Link and I plenty of time to talk.
"Wait," Link stopped where he was, clutching his legendary weapon in his left hand. "If Ganon hasn't attacked Hyrule yet, then couldn't we see our past selves?"
I shook my head slowly. "I can guarantee if we met our past selves, something would ruin another, and we might change time."
Link stared at me as I widened my eyes, making it seem like my head was exploding. "Poof," I whispered, "and everyone we know disappears because we met our past selves."
Link rolled his eyes. "You're insane."
I put my hands on my hips. "What do you mean? I've seen all of the science-fiction movies about time travel. It always ends up with the main protagonist's family and friends changing to be completely different people."
Link shrugged his shoulders. "So, where do you think Ganon is hiding?"
"Up your butt and around the corner!"
I snorted, clasping my hand over my mouth. I held in my laughter as best as I could before erupting in a laughing mess. "Who was that?" I breathed in between my hearty giggles.
Link turned around. He saw a small brown head with a dash of red. "Talo? Is that you?!"
I heard a slight snicker from behind a bush. I gasped, looking at my attire. I held my breath, changing into my regular clothes. Link did the same.
"Aw man, Malo! Beth! It's just the same guys from last time!" I heard Talo whimper. The three children emerged from a small bush. Beth rolled her eyes in annoyance at the young boy.
I watched as Ilia also came out as well. "You be nice now, boys!" She scolded. "You told me you were just going to watch the passerby, not eavesdrop on their conversations!"
Talo giggled. "Heh, well maybe I lied."
Beth smacked Talo alongside his head. "Idiot."
Talo held his head in his hands, looking up at Beth. "Watch it!" He snapped, scowling. "After I become the next swordsman of Ordon, you'll be begging me to leave you alone!"
"That's enough!" Ilia concluded, turning towards Link and I. "I'm very sorry, I never meant for these kids to cause you any trouble. I'm supposed to be watching over them, and they're my responsibility."
Link stepped forward. "It's no problem, really. Zelda and I were just-"
Beth gasped. "Zelda? The Zelda? Princess Zelda?"
My eyes widened, and I turned to Link.
My left eye began to twitch.
Idiot! I screamed in my head, staring at Link.
Link just flashed a toothy grin. He turned back to the kids and Ilia. "N-No, actually, this is just my friend Z-"
"She even looks like the princess, too!" Talo smiled.
Colin suddenly appeared from behind Ilia. I hadn't even noticed him before.
"Maybe that's why this lady was so courageous when saving me," Colin said quietly. "The princess is very brave, so it would make sense."
I shook my head. "I'm not-"
Ilia snapped her fingers. "I'm almost positive you look like the princess."
"That boy also looks like our old friend..." Malo muttered under his breath, staring at Link.
It seemed as if all four kids, along with Ilia, froze right where they stood.
"Isn't your name... Link?" Ilia asked.
Link nodded. "Uh, yeah."
Ilia covered her mouth with her hands, attempting to hide her gasps. "No way..."
"It can't be..." Malo whispered.
"You're not him... Are you?" Beth wondered.
"You numskull..." Talo growled. "You had us worried all this time..."
"Link..." Colin said with tears in his eyes.
I watched as Ilia ran towards Link with outstretched arms. She was crying.
I felt my face redden. There's that weird feeling, I noticed, covering my mouth with one hand. I've only ever felt this before, when Ilia looked at Link with compassion in her eyes... But what is this feeling?!
Link smiled. He awkwardly wrapped his arms around Ilia's back. "I, uh, don't think I'm the person you're talking about."
"Oh!" Ilia gasped, jumping away from Link. Her face flushed a pink color. She smiled, looking at the ground. "You just looked so much like our Link..."
Link laughed. "You do realize I was in Ordon with this one," Link pointed at me, smiling, "for a few days. Why are you remembering all of this now?"
Ilia shook her head, turning towards the kids. "Well, we all agreed that you looked a lot like him, so we went out searching for you again. My father wouldn't tell me where you went off too... Maybe he believed you were our Link as well..."
Link walked over to my side. "Well, would it be okay if we spent another night in Ordon? We need a place to stay."
Ilia nodded her head quickly. "Oh, of course!"
Link smiled. "Thank you."
"Follow me!" Beth proclaimed, waving her hands in the air. She, Talo, Malo and Colin bolted off in the opposite direction. I walked on Link's left side, while Ilia walked on his right.
Maybe this Ilia is different than the one in my time, I thought to myself hopefully. That would be nice, wouldn't it?
"Our Link has been gone for almost a year now..." Ilia began, sadness in her voice. "He lived in Ordon for about two years, when he suddenly disappeared. He told me he had something important to do... But he still hasn't returned."
"That's terrible," I spoke, turning towards Ilia. She nodded. "I'm sorry that you lost such a close friend."
Ilia rubbed her eyes. "You see, when I looked at Link's face, I thought for a moment, for a split moment, that our Link had finally returned..."
Link smiled. "I'm sorry I'm not who you thought I was."
Ilia shook her head. "It's alright. Maybe Link will come back some day?"
Link nodded. "I bet he will."
"You're right, he has to come back!" Ilia smiled, looking up at Link.
I clutched my shirt.
That feeling again...!
Link looked down at me. "Are you alright, Zel?"
Ilia looked at me. "And you're sure that you aren't Princess Zelda?"
I smiled. "I'm not."
Ilia nodded. "Okay."
We all followed Beth and the other children into Ordon. Mayor Bo greeted us, happily welcoming Link and I back into the village.
"I hope these kids haven't caused you any trouble," he spoke, when Ilia threw her hands down at her sides.
"Father, we were kind and helpful to these people!" Ilia argued.
Bo laughed nervously. "Alright, alright, Ilia..."
Ilia laughed. "How about I show them back to Link's house-"
"Don't speak of his name, Ilia..." Bo interrupted his daughter. "He is never coming back to this village, and you know it."
Ilia's head fell in shame. "Yes, father..."
"They can stay at our place for the night," Bo quickly responded, looking at Link and I. "Will that be alright with you two?"
Link and I nodded. "Yes, sir. We are very grateful for your assistance," Link thanked.
Bo nodded once. "It is my pleasure."

"It's dinner time!" Ilia called upstairs.
Link looked up at me. He sat on the floor, while I occupied the only bed. He smiled. "You ready?"
I slipped on one of my sneakers. I stood up. "Ready!"
Link laughed, climbing down the ladder and into the kitchen.
"We are having cooked chicken tonight, if that's okay," Ilia said, taking out some plates. "I was also wondering if you wanted to eat outside? It's pretty warm out, so I thought it would be nice."
I nodded. "That does sound lovely!"
Ilia smiled. "Oh, good! I'm glad you think so!"
The three of us picked out what food we wanted, then exited the mayor's house. We sat outside on a small hill, looking out at the village. The sun began to set behind us.
"It sure is pretty up here," Link said, marveled at the gorgeous scenery. Who knew such a small village could be so wondrous?
I nodded. "It's so peaceful, too."
Then, we heard a scream.
"That sounded like Hanch!" Ilia gasped, looking into the village. Sure enough, a short man was running away from a few monsters. They all held bows, and they were chasing him.
"Not so peaceful anymore, huh?" Link laughed, looking at me.
I elbowed Link in his stomach. "Let's go, Link!"
Link nodded, grabbing my hand and pulling me off of the ground. Ilia stood up as well. "What're you two doing? Let Russl handle it! He's the village swordsman, after all!"
Link clenched his teeth, summoning the Master Sword into the palms of his hands. I summoned my own sword, holding it over my shoulder. Link winked at Ilia. "I think we can handle this on our own," he said with a slight smirk.
Ilia blushed, watching Link and I run down the tall hill.
I turned my head towards Link as we ran. "W-Why do you keep giving Ilia looks like that?" I stuttered, speaking with a bit of anger in my tone.
Link shrugged his shoulders, waving his hand as if it was no big deal. "I'm just joking around, is all."
I held my head down in shame. Of course, he's just joking, Zelda! I assured myself. There's no way that he would be in l-
"Zelda! Snap out of it!"
I shook my head quickly, averting my gaze from the ground. One of the small green monsters aimed their bow directly at my body. I yelped, jumping to my right. I began rolling uncontrollably down the hill.
Link laughed at me. "You look ridiculous!"
I grunted, standing up off of the ground. I held my sword in front of me, thankful I didn't accidentally slice myself on my way down the hill. I blew a strand of hair from my face. "Yeah, yeah. Just shut up and fight these goblins, okay?"
Link held his hands up in defense. "Sure thing, Princess."
I rolled my eyes, a slight smile escaping my lips. I lunged at the creature, swinging my sword directly at its body. As soon as my sword touched its skin, it cried out in pain, then vaporized into the afternoon sunlight.
I looked at Link, lowering my sword. "Well, that was easy."
Link slashed as the monster aiming its bow at him. The monster, just like the one I fought had, dispersed into smoke, fading away from existence. "You're right. Almost... Almost too easy..."
I began to walk towards Link, when he gasped.
"Zelda, you idiot! Look out-"
I felt a sharp pain in my arm. I looked up and watched as Link threw the Master Sword up at the monster that sat perched on a branch above Hanch's house. The monster, pinned against the tree by Link's sword, disappeared, leaving its bow and quiver to fall to the ground.
I fell to my knees, wanting to scream as I saw the crimson blood flow from the back of my arm, down to my wrist. I closed my eyes, gripping my forearm. "Link...!" I called out, the pain only getting worse.
"I'm coming, I'm coming!" I heard Link call.
When I looked up at him, it's like the world around me turned a different shade of color.
What is this?! I thought, looking around. Sure enough, Ordon had suddenly turned a lighter shade of blue. A light, sky blue. How beautiful...
I felt my head tip forward. I gasped, trying to keep myself conscious. Why am I so sleepy all of a sudden? I looked back up at Link.
He was frozen where he stood, staring at me with wide eyes.
"What is it...?" I muttered. I reached my hand out and touched a solid material.
A solid.
It was like my whole body woke up. The arrow in my right arm had disappeared, yet the hole where it had pierced me was still in my arm. I ignored the pain, standing up, seemingly in midair. I began to bang on the material in front of me; it looked to be some sort of glass.
"Link!" I screamed, hitting the glass harder. "Link! Help! I don't know... I don't know what this is, but help!"
Link ran back up to the tree above Hanch's house, climbing up the large trunk to reach his sword. He began to pry the Master Sword from the tree, when we heard a deep chuckle.
"Well it seems I've finally gotten my prize, eh? A beautiful gem, as I would call you. Perfectly fit to be my queen; my wife."
I slowly turned around.
"Hiya, Zelda," he waved to me, floating in midair beside my glass prison.
"G!" I gasped. My face turned into a scowl. "Or should I say, Ganon..."
"In the flesh!" G laughed. "I prefer G... Y'know, what you would call me back home!"
"How did you come back in time?" Link questioned, finally pulling his sword out from the tree. He pointed it at G. "Why are you here?"
G smiled. "Oh, I heard that a pretty princess and her hero had been reincarnated. It's sort of amazing to find out that those two idiots attend the same school as you, huh?" G laughed, looking at the poor, helpless residents of Ordon, cowering in fear. "It's even better to find out that you yourself are in reincarnation of the Evil King Ganon."
"Put Zelda down, now," Link growled, preparing to jump.
G smirked. "Sorry Linky, she's mine now. I kidnapped her, making her my property."
I stomped my foot, pointing my finger at G. "I am not your property, or anybody's property for that matter! I am my own person, thank you very much!"
G raised his hands in the air. "Here we go, the bearer of the Triforce of Wisom, rambling on about how independent she is!" G moved closer to the class crystal I was inside. He pressed a finger against it. "If you're so independent, how come you need a Hero?"
"Cut the chitchat!" Link cried out. "Come down and fight me, Ganon!"
G snarled. "I said, I would prefer you to call me G, you incompetent fool!" G waved his arms, summoning some kind of electrical magic before him. The electricity swarmed over Link's body, causing him to fall to the ground. The Master Sword landed right beside him, sticking into the ground.
"Pathetic," G laughed, looking back at me. "Now, Zelda, if you don't mind-"
"How did you get here?"
I looked back down at Link. Tears lined my eyes as I watched him struggle to stand.
G scoffed. "A little girly back in our time told me about you all. She said she realized who she was, but she didn't realize in time to come back here with you..." G stared me down. "In fact, I believe you were close with her, Zelda, were you not?"
I froze.
My arms fell to my sides.
G shrugged his shoulders. "I didn't know what to do with her!" He said sadly, crossing his arms and facing away. "I mean, I couldn't let her find her true power and aid you both, now could I?"
Tears fell from my eyes. I clenched my teeth. "You didn't."
G turned towards me. "What else was I supposed to do?"
I began banging on the glass. "You killed her, didn't you?!" I demanded, hitting the glass harder.
G laughed.
"You killed Agitha, didn't you?!" I screamed. I felt lightheaded, but that didn't matter. Agitha was brought into this, wasn't she?! Is she supposed to aid Link and I to defeat Ganon...?!
"Again, what else was I supposed to do?" G smirked. He shrugged his shoulders. "It's not a big deal. I just killed her in her own home, disguised as a teacher from our school."
My eyes widened. "How could you?!"
Link gritted his teeth, attempting to stand. "G-Ganon... You... You bastard!"
G frowned. "I don't like that tone, young man." He waved his hand effortlessly, sending even more electricity out of his hands.
This time, it caused Link more pain.
Link screamed. Blood began to drip from the top of his head. He balled up his fists, ripping grass and soil out from the ground.
I gasped, slowly falling to the bottom of the blue crystal. "Don't kill him..."
G leaned in closer. "Hm? What did you say?"
"Don't kill him!" I yelled, my eyes glued on Link. "I'll do anything... Anything at all!"
G chuckled darkly. "Oh, really now...?"
Link began to shake his head. "Zelda, don't...!"
I stood back up, my legs shaking. I stared at G. "Anything, as long as you let me heal him."
G snapped his fingers. "You have five minutes."
I fell to the ground, the landing being softer than I expected it to be. The electricity around Link dispersed, and he was left on the ground, sprawled out and bloodied.
I quickly made my way over to him, laying his head on my knees. "Oh, god, look at you!" I said, trying to support him up. "You're a mess."
Link's eyes were fighting to stay open. They began to close every now and then, but he forced them open.
He knew that if he closed them, he was going to die.
I leaned my head on his. "I'm just going to heal you, okay?"
Link shook his head. "No, stop..."
My tears spilled from my eyes onto his shirt. "Don't worry, it'll all be better soon..."
A golden light shone out from my hands, enveloping Link's body. His skin began to feel warmer as I held onto him longer. Quickly, his eyes fluttered open, and I looked into his blue eyes.
He quickly placed his right hand on my cheek. "You're insane! Do you know what he's going to do now? Now that you've practically given yourself up to him?"
I shook my head slowly. "No, it's okay..." I leaned my head onto Link's once more. I closed my eyes, trying my best to cease my tears. "I know you'll save me, regardless, so it's okay."
Link pulled me into his body, wrapping his arms around me. "I'll kill him for what he's doing to you, and what he did to Agitha."
"Not if I do it first," I said hoarsely.
Link pulled away from me. "You're losing your voice, and you look paler than a ghost."
I nodded. "I'm stressed, what can I say?"
Link picked up the Master Sword. "How about I just kill him now, and get this all over with?"
Suddenly, G appeared right in front of Link and I.
"Times up," he laughed.
Link was thrown back against the tree by an invisible force. I gasped, turning back towards him. I began to run, when I stopped.
I couldn't move.
Wrapped around my wrists were chains. I spun around, observing the long, cold chains, which ended up in G's hands. He flicked his wrist, and I turned back to Link.
Link was enveloped in a green crystal. He began to bang on the transparent material.
"I'll just send him home..." G whispered.
I turned to him. "No! Not without me!"
G smiled. "Too late."
"Zelda!"
I spun around, my tears falling off of my red cheeks.
Link was gone.
