Chapter Six

I was going insane.

What in goddess' name was that shadowy monster? What were those three green, blue and red streaks in the sky? Why did my disgusting ankle become healed all of a sudden? When did I even begin saying goddess?!

I was now at home, and Link had left around thirty minutes ago. He sat inside with me, and we tried to help each other piece together what had just happened. We were going crazy. What happened was crazy.

"So, I don't want to be rude, but..." Link had said to me, "do you have any parents?"

I shook my head. "No, I don't."

Link looked surprised. "I don't either... Do you think that means anything?"

I shrugged my shoulders. "I dunno."

We talked for what seemed like forever, then Link realized he had soccer practice, so he had to leave earlier than expected. After he said his goodbyes, promising to come back to check on me even later today, I walked slowly up to my room. I fell down on my bed, and grabbed a pillow, snuggling it. If it was a person, I'd be positive they would have been strangled half to death.

My heart was racing. Growing up, I was told by my aunt and uncle that magic was just a bunch of phooey; that magic wasn't real. Any magical storybook I was told in elementary school was just for entertainment.

Yet... Why did this whole scenario seem magical?

I knew I wouldn't be able to tell any of this to Agitha, even if she was my best friend. To begin with, she would probably believe that I was crazy. 'Magical shadows and light, huh?' She'd mock me. I could already hear her laugh. 'Zel, there's no such thing as magic!' I could imagine her slapping her knee hilariously.

And, maybe she wasn't supposed to know. However, something in my gut told me that she should know. I have no idea what part of me decided that she should know, but I just felt something in me; a burning sort of sensation. Yet, if something were to go wrong within all of this, I would want Agitha to stay out of it. I wouldn't want her getting hurt, or even worse.

I needed to face the facts: Everything that I saw yesterday was real; not a figment of my imagination or insanity. I held my head up high, ready to face this situation with bravery and courage.

Except, I didn't have that.

"Why me?" I yelled aloud. "I'm just the school loser and nothing more! Why am I seeing all of these things?"

I screamed into my pillow, one of the perks of living alone. I felt my face become hot, and my cheeks wet with tears. This was all too much to handle. I had never been important or needed before. I wanted to call Agitha and explain everything to her, and for her to completely understand and give me a hug. I knew that wasn't going to happen, yet I wanted it to. I desperately wanted someone to hug me. I wanted to be welcomed by a warm and loving hug.

Then, my phone buzzed on my bedside dresser.

I picked it up and examined the message I had received.

It was from Link.

'Hey, Zelda, I'm coming over now. Soccer practice was cancelled, and I just experienced something strange.'

I didn't even respond. My fingers just didn't want to move.

Maybe it was because I didn't want to text him back.

I had a sinking feeling that Link and I would have to become closer, if we were going to try and solve this whole hullabaloo. This made my stomach churn. I did not want to become friends with that... Idiotic, popular pretty-boy. Besides, it's not like he'd want to be friends with me.

My phone buzzed once again, and I saw that it was Link.

'Okay, so I'm assuming you've read my message. Is it alright that I'm coming over? I'm kinda barging in, and I don't want to do that.'

I rolled my eyes. 'It's fine,' I texted back.

'Good, because I would have felt really bad if that's not what you had wanted.'

Since when did he care about what I think?

A single tear slid down my cheek. I'm not important, I told myself, although I already knew that. Why am I seeing these things? It should have been someone else!

I heard my doorbell ring. I quickly wiped away my tears. Jeez, was Link here already? I quickly fixed my messy hair in the mirror and walked downstairs to the door. "I'm coming!" I yelled, reaching the last step. Before I opened the door, I took a deep breath.

It's okay, Zelda, I told myself.

Starting today, you are important.

I opened the door.

"Ah, Zelda, how nice to see you."

My head was spinning. "G?"

The tall, tanned boy smiled. "Yes. Am I disturbing you at the moment?"

I shook my head. "N-No. What's the problem?"

G laughed. "Oh, I just wanted to talk to you for a second." He looked past my head, looking at my apartment, then he looked back at me. "Mind if I come in?"

I hastily held out my arm. "Uh, sure, come on in."

G walked in, still with that creepy smile on his face. I tried to smile my best, but it just ended up being an awkward and nervous half-smile. I led him into the small family room, where I sat down on the couch, and he sat next to me.

A little to closely.

He stared at me. "So, how's your day been?"

I nodded. "Uh, fine. So, what did you want to talk about?" I asked, trying to end our conversation quickly.

He chuckled darkly. "Oh, I heard from somebody, that you were seeing things."

My heart stopped. I stared off into my kitchen. How did G know? And who told him?

I almost gasped aloud.

Link.

"Ah, actually," I laughed nervously, G eyeing me funny and smirking, "I'm not seeing anything. Now, my friend Agitha is coming over soon so you should probably go-"

G took my hands and held them tightly. "Oh, Agitha? She's such a sweetie." G laughed. "I'd like to stay, if that's okay with you."

I shook my head, standing up and pulling my hands away from him. "No, I'm sorry. You should go."

G stood up. "Alright, beautiful. Have it your way. I'll see you at school." He winked at me, and I felt like puking.

"P-Please don't call me that," I asked.

G held his fingers under my chin. "Oh? How come?" He leaned closer, and I felt super uncomfortable. "Has no one ever called you that before?"

Suddenly, I heard my door burst open. G looked behind him, and I took that as my chance to run. I quickly moved to the door, and luckily, it was Link who had entered.

"Zelda?" He asked as I ran behind him. "Is he here? I saw his nasty car parked in your driveway-"

"Well if it isn't the pretty boy," G said, walking out from the family room. His arms were crossed, and he moved his red hair out of his eyes.

Link snarled. "Ganon." Link seemed angry. I hid behind him again, holding the back of his shirt. "Who invited you here?" He snapped.

He smiled, pointing towards me. "Oh, Zelda let me in."

Link looked behind me. "Why would you let him in your house, Zel?"

I laughed nervously. "He said he just wanted to talk for a moment! I didn't want to be rude!"

G laughed. "Oh, what a little sweetheart!"

Link balled his hands into fists. "Don't call her that."

I looked up at him, and he seemed like he was about to punch G in the face.

I ran in front of Link. "G, can you please just leave? I don't want any trouble."

G laughed once more. "Oh, sweetie, call me Ganon. No one ever calls me that anymore."

"Don't call her that," Link said again.

Ganon walked towards me. "She doesn't want any trouble, mister Link." He grabbed my hand and pulled me into his body.

I whimpered, pain shooting up my arm. "Please, let me go."

Ganon chuckled. "She's about to get hurt, and she said please!" He erupted in laughter.

Link stepped forward. "Ganon, let her go. What do you want from her, anyway?"

Ganon rested his hand on my head. "I heard not only this shrimp, but you as well, were seeing things."

I gasped as Ganon suddenly made a fist, pulling my hair.

Wait, so Link didn't tell Ganon? My mind was busted. I couldn't think straight anymore.

"Let her go!" Link shouted, running towards Ganon, punching him in the jaw.

Link grabbed my arm and threw me behind him. "Go upstairs," Link said.

I shook my head. "This is my house. I'm staying right here."

Ganon laughed, a bit of blood dripping from his lip. "Yeah, Link. Let the little lady watch."

Link turned toward me, and smiled. "Please, Zelda. Go wait upstairs." He turned back around. "I'll come get you after I have escorted Ganon outside to his car."

I slowly backed away, watching as Ganon stared at me. My eyes became glossy, and before the tears could spill, I ran upstairs, not looking back.

I ran into my bedroom, locking the door behind me. I stood at the door, breathing heavily as I listened to Link and Ganon from downstairs.

"Don't ever come back here, you got that?" Link said.

Ganon laughed. "Whatever."

I clasped my hands over my ears as they began yelling. I slid down my door, my back up against it. I clenched my teeth. Why had I been so stupid to let someone so awful into my own house?!

I sat on the floor for a few minutes, before hearing a knock on my door. My eyes widened. How was I supposed to know if it was Link or Ganon?

I slowly stood up, my hand shaking as I touched the cold metal of the doorknob. My fingers just barely latched onto the lock, and it slowly turned.

Click.

The door creaked open, and there standing before me...

...was Link.

My face was obviously still wet with tears. "Zelda, I'm so sorry!" He said, touching my cheek. He rolled down his shirt's sleeve and wiped away the tears.

I shook my head. "I'm the idiot who let him in. You shouldn't be sorry."

Link smiled sweetly. "I'm just glad he didn't hurt you."

"Actually..." I mumbled, holding up my left wrist. It was red and swollen, where Ganon had grabbed it so forcefully.

Link gingerly held my hand in his. "We should probably ice this."

I nodded. "I'm with you on that one."

I walked out of my room, pulling the door closed behind me. I walked down the stairs, with Link following close behind me. However, with just my luck, I had left a shoe on the stairs and tripped over it, causing me to trip forwards.

I screamed as I fell, and I inadvertently stuck out my left hand, trying to catch myself, and I instantly regretted that awful decision.

I cried out in pain as my wrist began throbbing. I curled up, holding my hand between my chest and my knees.

"Zelda!" Link yelled, running down the stairs quicker. He jumped down beside me and lifted me off the floor. "Are you okay?"

I held up my hand. "I-It's even worse now."

Link helped me stand up, and he walked me over to my kitchen. I sat down on a stool, as Link grabbed a bag and shoved as much ice in it as he could. I laid my hand on the table, wincing as pain surged throughout my arm.

"I'm coming," Link said, bringing the ice over to my hand. He softly placed it all around my hand, and he looked at me. "Does that feel any better?"

"A bit," I admitted, grateful for his help.

Link smiled, relaxing. "Good, I'm glad."

With my right hand, I fixed my glasses, pushing them up my nose. I wanted to cry as I realized that they were broken, probably from when I fell down the stairs.

I pulled them off and wanted to scream. I threw them across the table, laying my head down in my right arm. "I'm useless and clumsy," I said aloud, not actually meaning to.

Link shook his head. "You are not."

I lifted my head just a bit from my arm. "Am too."

"Are not."

"Am too."

Link chuckled. "Are not."

I rolled my eyes. "Am too."

Link sighed. "Well, that's what you think." He smiled. "I think differently."

I blushed and hid my head back in my arm. My stomach felt like a million butterflies were flying all around inside of it.

Link laughed. He slowly picked up the ice bag. "Can I look at your hand?"

I nodded.

He gently lifted my arm off of the table, and began examining it. "I'm no doctor, but it seems like it's just a temporary bruise, or something."

I gasped. "I won't have to go to the hospital, will I?"

Link shook his head. "No, of course not. It's just a little swollen, it should go down soon."

I slowly nodded my head. "O-okay."

Link leaned in a bit closer to me. "Why are you afraid of the hospital so much?"

I sighed. "I just... Have bad memories there, that's all."

Link nodded. "I guess you don't want me to ask about them, then?"

I lifted my head up from the table. "No, that's not it..." I sighed once more. "You see, the earliest memory I have is a woman, who I presume to be my mother, crying over me, along with someone I believe to be my father, and a few other doctors." I looked at the floor. "The next thing I remember was waking up in my aunt and uncle's house. They took care of me after my parents..." I paused, looking at Link. "D-Disappeared..."

Link nodded. "You don't have to say any more." He smiled sympathetically. "It's okay."

I tried smiling.

Link looked at me strangely, however, I could barely tell without my glasses. "Are you okay?"

I nodded, feeling the tears just sitting on the edge of my eyes, ready to start flowing any minute. "Y-Yup," I stuttered.

Link frowned. "Zelda..."

I laughed. "What? I'm fine."

Link pulled me in for a hug. "No, you're not."

I continued smiling as he rubbed my back.

I guess I finally got the hug I had craved so badly from earlier today.

I leaned my head into his shoulder, finally letting the tears spill. I cried into his shoulder as I gripped the back of his shirt.

"I'm sorry!" I yelled. "You got in a fight because of me!" I sniffed. "I'm so dumb and clumsy, I made my injuries worse! I can barely stand up straight, and not to mention that I broke my own glasses!"

"It's okay," Link whispered. "Just let it all out, Zelda."

I continued crying. "Why did my parents leave me? Am I nothing to them?" My breathing was uneven. "I'm nothing at school, so I guess I meant nothing to them, too!"

Link shook his head. "Zelda, you're something to me, and I hope that's enough."

I suddenly stopped sobbing. I wrapped my arms around Link's back, leaning further into his shoulder.

I guess he's not really what I thought he was.

"Thank you."

Note - In this story, I used Ganon's name for Ganondorf's character, only because I felt like Ganon suited him better. Trust me, I realized that Ganondorf is his "human" form, and Ganon is the pig form. I just decided on Ganon :)

I hope you all are enjoying!! <3
