Part 13

As soon as she came out of the pent house she lost her ability to hold it together.
She couldn't draw enough air to her lungs she was breathing too hard, too fast, and she was worried that she might passed out right in front of the building. She could have created a scene here and gather the people early this Sunday morning and screamed her pain out.

But that would be the worst thing that could happen and make this situation more unbearable. She started taking slow breath in and out.
She just started walking with her hand on her mouth suppressing the cry that's ready to come out of the mouth any second. The tears were unstoppable though.

She couldn't believe what just happened. How could she??? How could she just lost herself to him??? How could she gave herself to that man without thinking twice???

How had she let this happen to herself? It was as if she just made a joke out of herself. This has given a scar on her pride,  she could've just died of humiliation. She so wishes that the earth could just open up right now and she just get swallowed in it.

But alas, it happened. It was done. And she has just lost her virtue. To a man whom she was claiming that she loved. But now love is the least important thing in her life. She didn't know what she is going to do.

She is walking through the main road and through the alleys of Chicago downtown. She didn't know where she was going.

At the moment she felt stupid. She felt she's been used. She has never given the opportunity to any man to come near her and get closer to her but, this man, who call himself Manik Malhotra has totally destroyed her. He has broken her into pieces.

How could she just trusted him???How could she???

After a while she found herself in front of the entrance of cook county hospital she didn't know how she came here. She didn't know how come she walked so far. But she's here.

But the highlights of last night flashed in front of her eyes. Last night was indeed the best night of her life, of the togetherness with a man she loved. She wanted that night to never end.

Oh well, it ended leaving a very bitter taste in the mouth of the very worst morning that came along. The horrible morning of her life.

She didn't know how her vision blurred and then she fell life less on the concrete floor in front of the entrance of Cook county hospital.

She didn't even notice that Aliya was walking towards her calling her name.
"Nandini Nandini...."
she could hear only her name before closing her eyes laying flat on the floor.

'Oh hell.'
He lowered himself slowly to the couch that was behind him. His chest tightened, he couldn't draw a breath. He was not the person who Soha claims to be.

He is a person who loves Nandini. Who will never ever hurt her in his dreams let alone in reality. How did he end up in this unreasonable and un explainable situation. He don't know what to do. He held his head in his hands and bend down on the couch.

Soha watched him but she didn't dared to go near him and talk to him. She understands the situation, but she has to prove her point so she was just making herself comfortable so that she can answer any question or she can handle any situation.

Nandini was taken into the emergency ward and  she was attended by the authorities.

Aliya was very worried seeing her friend, more like her soul sister laying like a lifeless person in front of her.
She can't see her like this. She thought Nandini didn't return home last night. And now she is here in the hospital.

'What went wrong??' She thought.

'How should I find out??' Thinking something she came out of the emergency ward and walked faster towards the fire escape.

As soon as she came out on the stairs she took out her phone and dialed the number of the only person whom she can get a clue of what might have happened.

She heard the phone ringing on the other side.
"Pick up pick up please.... this is not the time to sleep..." she was eagerly waiting for the person to pick up.
The ring was going on and on. No one was picking up.

She cut the phone and redialed again. Someone picked up. Without listening to who might have picked up Aliya started talking fast.
"Hello Dhruv... this is Aliya..." she says in a hurry that Dhruv didn't get a chance to say hello.

"Aliya... what happened. What's wrong. Are you ok..." Dhruv was in his deep sleep. As soon as he heard Aliya's panicky voice his sleep was gone with the wind.

"Nandini is in the hospital. Unconscious..." she said.

"What? How? Why?. I mean how did she end up in the hospital..." Dhruv sat upright on his bed rubbing his eyes.

"That's what I wanted to know. She didn't return home last night. I was called this morning on duty because of short of staff. When I came here I saw her laying on the floor in front of the entrance. Do you have any idea what could have happened..." she asked him after giving him all the details.

"No I don't know what happened. I came home I was tired so I went to bed. I didn't even call bhai and asked him about the party..." Dhruv said thinking something.

"You know what. I think I will get the answers when I see bhai. You don't worry. I will go to Bhai's place and finds out what happened. Just give me an hour..." Dhruv said and got out of the bed. He went to the washroom straight holding his phone near his ear.

"I'm waiting for your call. Please call me as soon as you find out something..." Aliya requested and hung up the phone. The next thing she did was She called Navya and woke her up. She inform her about the situation and asked her to come straight to the hospital. And she also asked her to bring a spare dress for Nandini.

Within no time Dhruv was in front of Manik's penthouse. On his way here he called Cabir and asked him to come too.

He was surprised to see the door was wide open. He went straight inside. Soha was standing in the corner leaning her side to the wall watching Manik. Manik didn't talked to her since Nandini left.

Dhruv saw Manik sitting on the couch in his pjs.
He suddenly came closer to his big brother who was not looking Okay. The brother who never displayed any emotions to anyone is now looking so devastated.

Dhruv puts his right hand oh Manik's shoulder. Manik shot up a glance thinking that it is Soha.
But seeing Dhruv instead he got up and hugged him tight.

"Bhai..." Dhruv could only mutters his name. Manik clutched his brothers back so tight that he's could choke.

After few minutes their silent moment was disturbed by Soha's not so interesting voice.

"Dhruv, you know, there's a good news. You are going to become an uncle. I'm pregnant with Manik's baby..." shamelessly she utters the news she was so excited with.

Dhruv turned his head to look at Soha with disbelief still holding his brother in his arms.
He tried to put two and two together. 'Maybe Nandini was here last night. Maybe bhai and her had a very good time. But in the morning they heard this news of Soha. And maybe Nandini couldn't take it. So she left from here. But how did she end up near the hospital??' This are the thoughts running in Dhruv's mind.

He patted Manik's back and make him sit down. He brought a glass of water for his big brother. After taking a sip Manik put the glass down.

"Bhai! Are you ok..." he asked.

Manik gave a helpless look to him. Dhruv understand what situation he's going through. But Dhruv has to let Manik know about Nandini's condition too.

"Bhai, Don't stress yourself. We will figure out something..." Dhruv said to give him some comfort. But it's not possible at this level.

Dhruv get more closer to Manik's ear and whispered,
"Bhai, Actually, Nandini.." as soon as Dhruv took Nandini's name Manik straightens himself and looked at him.
"Nandini is in hospital. She is unconscious..."he finished his sentence.

"What..." Manik screams. Not that loud that Soha can hear.
"How is she. How did she end up in the hospital. I have to see her..." separating himself from Dhruv he ran upstairs with a jet speed.

Dhruv follows him to his room.

Soha was watching all this. She couldn't figure out what the brothers are talking about. Why are they so in a hurry.

Manik went to the washroom directly.
"Dhruv can you take out my clothes. I'll be out in two minutes..." Manik asked him before he closed the door.

After hearing about Nandini,
His mental state is more confused now. His ability to think is almost to nil. His brain is not functioning properly.
'How did she end up in the hospital. She got a shock of her life. Just last night we were having such a good time. She gave herself to me and I was in the seventh heaven...' his thoughts are going berserk.

He came out in just three minutes. That's the record time for him too.
When they came downstairs Soha was waiting in the living room playing with her phone. As if nothing matters to her. Well nothing matters to her anyways.

Manik didn't even wanted to see her. She got up as soon as she saw them going out of the house.
"Manik wait." She ran to him.
"What am I suppose to do. I will come wherever you are going." She held Manik's arm.

Manik removes her hand nicely and walked further. Dhruv followed too.

He stopped in the door way and told Dhruv
"Dhruv can you please take care of this nuisance. I don't want to deal with her right now. Nandini's well being is more important to me than her..." he tilted his head towards Soha.

Dhruv nodded his head and said.
"You don't worry about her bhai. I'll do something. Cabir might be waiting downstairs. Go with him..." Dhruv pressed Manik's shoulder.

Manik went out of the penthouse.

"But I wanted to go with him too.." Soha acted innocent.

"Right now you are coming with me.." Dhruv stopped her.

"Where." She asked.
"To the mansion." Dhruv answered.

Soha got excited. But she didn't show her happiness. The first step towards becoming a part of Manik's life is going to be accomplished soon. Once she enters the Malhotra mansion she will make sure that she won't get out easily. She gave herself a virtual pat on her shoulder.

"I knew it. I knew it. That's why I've never believed in them. Men are like that. They are the untrustworthy creatures of these planet. You can't trust them. You can't just trust them at all." Navya was fuming with anger in front of Aliya after seeing Nandini's condition.

They were out in the waiting room until Nandini gains consciousness. Doctors told them that Nandini got some kind of a shock which hit bad. She could be back to her consciousness in some time. But she is very weak.

Aliya was standing right there hearing her rants not knowing what to do. In a way Navya was partially right. Nandini trusted Manik and look what happened to her. She end up in the hospital.

Lord only knows what would have happened to her.

"All men are not equal. Not every man is untrustworthy. Some are really and genuinely true..."

Both the girls turned their heads to see Manik and Cabir standing right in front of them. It was Cabir who heard Navya's comment on men and comments back. Before Navya lashes out her anger on Manik, he asked

"Aliya where is Nandini? Can I see her?.." his face looks genuinely worried. He really looks very concerned for her.

"Why do you want to see her. You have ruined her life already. What's the need to see her..." Navya poured her anger on him.

Aliya held her arm to make her quiet.
"Navya wait..." she turned to Manik and said. "She is in room number 15 of ER..."

"Can I go meet her. " Manik asked with a request.

"You can see her. I don't think she is conscious enough to meet you..." Aliya said in a blank voice.

"Thanks. " Manik walked faster finding his way to the ER room 15.

After Manik left Navya was more furious on Aliya.
"Why did you have to send him to her. He has already done enough damage..." Navya said with more irritation.

"And I'm sure he is the only one who will do the damage control better then anyone else. Sometimes you have to let go things as it is..." Aliya tried to put some sense in Navya, but Navya is in no mood to hear anything or anyone now. After all her one and only cousin is not in a good condition.

Manik was staring at Nandini's pale but beautiful and innocent face with moist eyes, standing by her hospital bed. She looks so elegant even in her unconscious state.

He bend down and gave a light kiss on her forehead. He cupped her cheek with his left hand and rubbed his thumb on it.

"I will never hurt you. Not even in my wildest dream. How can I,  When I've fallen in love with you..." he kept his hand on hers.
"I'm so sorry you have to go through this. I'm feeling guilty to send you alone today...I should've stopped you from leaving the house."

He lift her hand to his lips and pressed his mouth on it.
"I know how to keep you away from all these mess. I will make sure that you are safe from this chaos... and I will make sure that I will take away all your pain and hurt from you."

He kept her hand back in the position.
"Forgive me for what I'm going to do next. I know it will hurt you for sometime, but for the long term you will be safe... and I will make sure of that..."
he took a few steps back. Then again he bend forward and kissed her lips lightly and stood straight.

He walked out of the room and saw Aliya standing near the door. He didn't know how much Aliya heard him. But,
Without looking at her he said.
"Please take care of her..." and walked away. His voice has the guilt and the pain in it.

Navya and Cabir were also walking towards Nandini's room. Cabir saw Manik walking faster to the outside door.

"Manik wait..." he turned to Navya and Aliya. "I will see that Manik reaches home safely and I'll come back to see Nandini." He followed Manik.

Manik came out of the hospital took out his phone and called Dhruv.

Dhruv picked up in one ring.
"Yeah bhai. How is she..." he said.
Manik took a deep breath and answered
"She is still unconscious..." he didn't wanted to talk about Nandini to anyone. So he changed the topic.
"Where are you. And what did you do with Soha..."

"I'm right here in the parking lot parking my car. And left Soha at the mansion..." Dhruv said putting the car in the park gear.

"What? Why did you drop her at the mansion." Manik got panic again.

"Bhai I think that the mansion is the only safe place for all of us. We didn't know what kind of a scene she would've created anywhere else..." Dhruv came out of the car and started walking towards the ER entrance.

He saw Manik and Cabir standing there. He hang up the phone and came near them.

"Don't worry bhai. We will find a better way..." Dhruv said giving Manik tight hug. He needed this hug from someone who really care for him.

Cabir knows the situation a little bit. But he didn't know the whole story. So he just stands there and watch them.

Dhruv turned to Cabir and said.
"Cabir take him to the mansion and make sure that you are by his side. Don't leave him please. I will stay here for sometime until Nandini regained her consciousness."

Cabir nodded his head as an obedient friend or brother or whatever you can call him. He can't see his best friend like this. So down.

Dhruv pats Manik's back and they left to the opposite directions.

Nandini gains her consciousness after Manik left. She felt something. Very strong. Like someone's presence who is very important to her was there. Who is everything she wanted was there. She opened her eyes slowly to feel that presence and looked here and there. But there's no one. Only hospital room and equipment surrounded her.

And she could see only Aliya and Navya. Her soul sisters.

They came and hugged her from both the sides laying on her bedside.

All three of them have that moment with each other. Without talking. They just wanted to show that they are there for each other no matter what happened or what ever the situation is. They cried with her. They kept their hands on Nandini's shoulder and her stomach keeping their heads on Nandini's shoulders.

Nandini felt relaxed and a little bit relieved too. Seeing both of them by her side.

Later after sometime Navya is the one who got up and started asking questions.

Nandini some what explains them about what happened last night. Nandini was crying reliving those moments again. Explaining them about how Soha came in the morning and ruined everything. She also told them about Soha being pregnant.

Navya lost herself hearing the whole thing.

"How can you trust a person so soon. How can you be so naive. How can you be so immature.... you didn't even revealed your true identity to him and you gave yourself..." Navya flew her hands in the air and sat on the chair in the back of her.

After Nandini told them what happened last night between her and Manik. Not clearly. But Aliya and Navya figured it out that Nandini has gave herself to that person. And now she is the worlds dumbest person.

Aliya covered her mouth with her palm. But Navya was very practical girl. She always thinks about the end part. And shows them the reality.

They already knew that Nandini loved him. But loosing herself like this, they never expected.

Nandini was crying nonstop. She knew what she's got herself into. Only pain and greave is in her destiny now. She lost her heart to this heartless person, and now she lost her virtue too.

Aliya was already sitting by Nandini's side wrapping her arm around her.
"Navya, stop now. Please. She is already in such a bad condition. Why do you have to remind her of her worst time..." Aliya said tracing her head.

"I know I'm being a bad girl here. But Aliya someone has to be in the senses, To tell Nandini that she has done a huge mistake here. And we don't know what will the outcome of this. And that unreliable person is not to be trusted at all. He has already got one person pregnant. What if????" Navya stops right there.

Dhruv came right at that moment and stopped in the doorway to hear the last words of Navya.

'Ohhhh, so this is what happened..' he thought. He felt bad for both his brother and his one and only best friend his gorgeous.

'Soha has ruined a very beautiful relationship that was about to happen. We don't even know how much of her news is true. But my little gorgeous's life and my Bhai's life is in such a dilemma right now. What Can I do to help them...' he thought again.

He stands there for few more minutes before entering.

"What will you do now Nandini. Will you still work in the Malhotra Fashion House..." Aliya asked.

Nandini wipes her tears and sat up straight.
"I don't have a choice. I can't leave the job. So I will make myself brave and go back to my work." She answered.

"How will you manage seeing him every day, all day long in front of you. You will get more hurt..." Aliya knows Nandini's condition. She is worried about her mental state.

"I know. But I will make myself more strong. I have to do this. I can't let anyone or anything come in my way to make me weak. I will not give up on my life..." she said with determination.

"That's like my good girl..." enters Dhruv with a wide smile.
"Hello gorgeous. How are you feeling. You look fresh like a morning flower.." Dhruv's voice was very active and bright which brings smile on Nandini's and Aliya's face.

"How do you know I'm here..." Nandini asked. She didn't know what all happened while she was laying unconscious on the hospital bed.

"Don't worry about that part. Just concentrate on your health and be more strong. I love the determination of yours. Never give up no matter what. Face the life and the life will not ditch you." Dhruv said coming closer and giving a light kiss on her forehead.

"Your life is very precious. Don't ruin it for someone not very important. Live for the people who love you not who hate you." He moved back.

"I can't wait to see you tomorrow up and working on that desk of yours in the office making nice and beautiful designs." Dhruv encourages her more.

"Aan, I will not be coming tomorrow. But I will be there on Tuesday. I need a days time to bring myself back..." Nandini said.

"No froblemo girlfriend. Take your time and back with an attitude..." Dhruv wanted Nandini to forget about what happened without saying words. But with his encouragement. Navya and Aliya liked it the way Dhruv was dealing her.

After sharing some more good words Dhruv took the leave.

"Ok. You already got the discharge. Come to my cabin. Take a shower. We will go downstairs to the cafe and eat breakfast. It's Sunday. Today they serve very good breakfast here..." Aliya diverted everyone's mind.

As usual Malhotra mansion was echoing with an old Indian song when Manik enters the house.

As soon as Manik enters the mansion Nyonika's voice caught his attention. She came barging to him.
"Manik. Congratulations. You are going to become a father. I'm so happy for you.." she gave him an unexpected hug. Well not really unexpected. She has to show her fake happiness.

Because Nyonika knows that Manik's happiness is going to be ruined if he marries this girl.
Because he loves someone else. And Nyonika knows who that someone else is. How can she see Manik happy. So she has to make sure that he will get married to this Soha girl.

Soha was sitting on the couch relaxing making herself comfortable as if this will be her future home.

Manik didn't hug Nyonika back. He separated himself from her and walked towards Granny who got up to come and meet her most adorable grandson.

"Are you ok sweetheart." She asked quietly hugging him tight.
"I'm ok Granny..." he said in a very down voice.

He went to the bar and sat on a high stool. He poured himself a drink and was about to take a sip when his arm has been held.

He turned to look who held his arm. It was his father. He loves Manik more than anything in this world. He can't see him in this sad and upsetting condition.

"This is not the solution to the problems son. It's Sunday morning. We all are home Dhruv will be here soon too. We will have our brunch together as usual. So I'm not allowing you to drink any alcoholic drink..." he said.

"I'm not hungry. And can you please close this Indian music. It's irritating today..." Manik puts the glass back on the counter.

Arum Malhotra took the remote and closed the music.
"You know the song which was just playing suits you perfectly. Life is a riddle. It's very unpredictable. It will make you happy and it will make you sad. But you won't give up. And the son I raised is not so weak to give up on such small matters...." he patted Manik's shoulder.

"I've been hearing lots of stories from that girl about you two since last two hours.." Arun pointed towards Soha.
"I don't know how much is true. But we will figure something. Don't loose hope...". He said.
"Common come in the kitchen and help me up..." he grabbed Manik's arm and dragged him to the kitchen. He didn't give Manik a choice to whine or say no to his father.

Granny smiled and let out a sigh of relief when Manik went with his father.

Watching granny's face Nyonika said.
"Mother in law. Why are you looking so sad. By the looks of your face it feels like someone died in this house. Common it's a good news. You are going to be a great grandmother. Your son will be a grandpa..."

"Nothing is confirmed yet..." granny said in a plain tone cutting her off.

"Don't worry about it. I'll take Soha to my gynecologist tomorrow morning and confirm the news..." Nyonika answered.

Hearing her excitement Granny got up and went into the kitchen. She can't take this anymore from Nyonika. The enthusiasm she's showing for Manik's and Soha's relationship. She don't like it.

"Really Nyonika Mom. You will do that. After all you are going to become a grandmother yourself..." Soha said something after a long pause. But only to be quiet down by Nyonika.

"No.." Nyonika said very sharply. When there was no one around.
"Don't call me mom and I'm not going to be a grandmother. Manik is not my son. You can call me Nyonika...".

Soha straightens herself. She thought that only Nyonika is the one who will help her. She has to be friends with her. She has to be in her good books. She lower her voice and asked.

"Where will we go tomorrow for the checkup.."

Nyonika looked at her and said.
"To St Joseph hospital. My gynecologists clinic is there..."

"Anyways. Come let's eat something. You have to take extra care of yourself. You have to eat for two people. We all want Manik's son to be healthy.." Nyonika continues.

"Oh yeah. I know. But before that can I use the restroom..." Soha asked.

"Sure why not.." Nyonika showed her the way to the restroom and walked to the kitchen.

Taking the opportunity, Soha closed the door of the very high standard guest bathroom and sat on the chair. She took out her phone from her purse and dialed someone.

When someone picked up the phone she said
"We are going to St Joseph hospital tomorrow. I don't know the doctors name. But I will let you know.
You know what you have to do..."

She heard what the other person was saying and smiled.

"I trust you. And I know you will do your best.." she hangs up the phone and puts it back in her purse. She looked into the mirror and gave herself a victory smile.

Monday arrived very fast. Melanie was busy with her designs to launch on the venture with the matching accessories. She has some ideas in her mind.

It was mid afternoon. She went to Manik's office with her new improved plans. As per her habit she knocked and barge into his office.

Manik was in his own world filled with Nandini's thoughts. He was looking outside the window.

Nandini didn't come today. She called in sick. She just needs a day to bring herself back to reality.

Manik was worried about her. He wanted to make sure that she's ok. She's doing fine.

How should he know. How should he find out.
As usual his only savior his brother Dhruv, who knows exactly what he wants. He is the one who told him that Nandini went home with Navya from the hospital. She was talking about taking leave on Monday. But she will be back on Tuesday.

Manik felt relaxed. But he wanted to see her. To make sure that she's doing good.

"Hi darling. I was wondering about the models that will be walking on the ramp at the venture with our new products. What do you think... do you have anyone particular in your mind for the show stopper. " as usual Melanie sat on the chair opposite Manik's desk and talked without giving him any chance to say any thing.

But she didn't got any answer. It was then she realized that Manik was silently standing without any reaction.

She stood up from her chair and walked towards him. She kept her hand on his shoulder. Manik turned suddenly from the touch hoping it to be Nandini's.

"Babe, are you okay." Melanie asked concerning about him.

"Hmm, Yeah. I'm fine. What were you saying..." he asked turning around and going to his chair.

Melanie didn't know the chaos going on in his life.

"I will come later if you don't want.."

Manik cuts her off.
"No I'm fine. What were you saying."he asked.

She watched him very carefully and sat opposite him.
"I was thinking about the models. Other than Soha..."

'Why do you have to take her name. I getting fed up of this name.' He thought. But his agitation was not ended there.

They heard a knock on the door. He let the person in. And that person has to be Soha. Followed by Nyonika.

"Ohhh Manik Manik I'm so happy. We got the confirmation. I'm pregnant with your baby. It's confirmed now..." she ran to Manik and gave him a tight squeeze.

Melanie was shocked hearing the news. She couldn't say anything. She didn't expected this in her dreams.

After leaving Manik Soha turned to Melanie and noticed her long face.
"Ohh Mel. I'm pregnant with Manik's baby. Isn't it a good news..." she said coming near Melanie. Melanie just looked at Manik from Soha. And then again at Manik.

"Nyonika has the reports. We went to her doctor today and it got confirmed.." Soha said with excitement.

Nyonika passed the envelope to Manik.
