Ellie sat in the back of her brothers car staring out the window, watching as cars drove by, none of them being Josie Fishers mom's car.

Nancy wheeler was currently sitting in the front beside Steve as she basically graded one of his papers. Ellie didn't even know what the paper was for and she honestly didn't care.

Just them Ellie saw the silver car pull into the parking a lot, making a big smile form on her face. Josie.

Josie had been Ellie's best friend since they were six and were made partners in art class. She was probably the nicest yet meanest person Ellie had ever met, but she didn't mind. Josie didn't care that Ellie was gay in fact Josie knew before Ellie.

"Later" Ellie said grabbing her bag before jumping out of the car. "Josie" Ellie yelled catching the other girls attention "hey el" Josie said as Ellie ran up to her.

The two quickly turned towards the entrance of the parking lot as a very loud car entered. It pulled into a parking spot and stopped, the annoying noise disappearing. Just then did a red head pop out of the passenger door.

Ellie's eyes quickly glued to her as she dropped her skate board on the ground then zoomed off. She was really pretty.

"Hey Ellie" Josie yelled snapping the brunette out of her trance "you coming or what" Josie said this time in a normal tone.

"Yeah" Ellie mumbled glancing up at the blue car before walking off.

Ellie and Josie headed toward the school quietly. The moment they entered the school their silence was cut off "that car was cool" Josie said holding onto Ellie's arm as she pushed threw the crowd of kids "no. It was annoying and loud" Ellie said glancing back at Josie.

"Yeah, but the kid looked cool" Josie said before letting go off Ellie and stepping over to her locker. Ellie however kept moving threw the kids since her locker was further down the hall "yeah she did" Ellie whispered.

"Meet the human brain" Mr Clarke said placing a fake brain down on his table.

"I know. I know, it doesn't look like much. A little gross even, right?" He paused looking around the classroom. "But consider this, there are a hundred billion cells inside of this miracle of evolution all working as one"

Ellie Harrington sat in the back on the class her head lying in her hands as Mr Clarke's voice went in one ear and out the other.

"Ellie" a voice whispered from beside her. The girl didn't remove her head from her hands instead she just turned it to face the other girl. Once Ellie was looking at her Josie allowed herself to continue.

"What are you doing after school?" Josie paused for only a second, not even giving Ellie a chance to answer before she continued "nothing? Good. You wanna go to the arcade" Josie asked, this time giving Ellie enough time to answer, but before Ellie could answer she was once again cut off, only this time by the classroom door opening.

The two girls both looked towards the class entrance "ah, this must be our new student" that caught Ellie's attention. "Indeed it is. All yours" the principal said before leaving.

Ellie's eyes quickly found the short red head as she tried to quickly walk past the teacher. That was the girl from earlier, the red head that was on the skateboard.

"All right. Hold up. You don't get away that easy" Mr Clarke was quick to stop her from running to her seat and he brought her back to the front of the rooms "come on up. Don't be shy" Mr Clarke paused looking at the curly haired boy in the front row "Dustin, drum roll"

After Dustin began to drum roll mr Clarke began to talk "class, please welcome, all the way from sunny California, the latest passenger to join us on our curiosity voyage."

"Maxine" Maxine, that's really pretty.

The girl quickly looked over at the teacher "it's max" max "sorry?" Mr Clarke looked away from the class and towards her "nobody calls me Maxine, it's Max" he voice was really quiet Ellie almost couldn't hear.

"Oh well, all aboard max" Mr Clarke let her go find her seat.

Ellie's eyes followed her every step as she went to her seat, which happened to be right next to her. Ellie sat up once she realized where she was heading, her mind suddenly panicking as if she was somehow about to say something to her.

The red head— Maxine— Max glanced over at Ellie, who still hadn't stopped looking at her, for only a second before rolling her eyes and looking back up at the front. Ellie however kept looking at her for another second before Josie slapped her arm in attempt to get her attention.

"Ow" Ellie mumbled grabbing her arm where Josie just hit. "So?" Josie said tilting her head. Ellie looked at her confused "so what?" She asked "do wanna go with me to the arcade" Josie laughed

"Oh, yeah, sure" Ellie finally answered causing Josie to let out another smaller laugh looking back up at teach while Ellie glanced back over at max.

She's really pretty

Ellie and Josie sat on the edge of the stairs Ellie's feet hanging off the edge while Josie sat with her let's crisscrossed.

"I don't see it" Josie said as the two watched max skateboard around "she's pretty, yeah, but she's not like phoebe cates pretty" Josie was waving her hands around.

"You're right, She's prettier" Ellie said resting her head on one of the metal railings. The girl beside her went quiet obviously trying to think of what to say, Ellie quickly spoke up again before Josie could finish "you only think that because Phoebe cates reminds you of my brother" Josie laugh a little before looking over at Ellie "true"

Josie looked back over at the red head as she made her way over to the trash can below them. Max looked up at the two girls above her for a moment locking eyes with Ellie before looking back down at the trash and throwing something in it.

The red head then made her way up the stairs and through the door behind them. "I almost just died" Ellie said placing her hand on her heart "did you see that she looked at me" Ellie said looking over at Josie with wide eyes "for like a millisecond" Josie said rolling her eyes at the girl "I know" Ellie let out a laugh groan looking back down at the trash, just in time to see the curly headed boy from her class dove head first into the trash can.

The two girls watched as he dug threw the trash can obviously looking for something. It only took him a second before he pulled out the paper that max had just thrown into the trash "found it" he yelled quickly unfolding it.

"Stop spying on me creeps" the group of boys read out loud causing both Josie and Ellie to laugh. The boys quickly looked up at the two girls who tried to hide the fact that they were laughing by just coughing.

"William Byers" the principle said causing all of the teens to look over at him "you're mothers here"

"Alright, one hour you too, I have things to do tonight" Steve yelled from the car, Ellie gave him a thumbs up before before following Josie into the arcade.

The moment the two girls entered the arcade Josie ran from Ellie trying to get to the game before anyone else does.

Ellie on the other hand ran over to the counter to steal more snacks from Keith.

"Hey" Ellie said leaning on the counter "give me something" she said holding her hand out. Keith paused what he was doing for a moment looking at the girl "sorry, I don't have anything today" Ellie's hand fell onto the counter her bracelets making a loud scratching noise "what why!"

"I don't get my paycheck until tomorrow" Keith said before going back to what he was doing. Ellie sent the boy a glare before turning around and heading back to Josie only to run straight into another person.

"Shit" the girl groaned obviously dropping something. Ellie looked down, her eyes landing on a cassette player (I'm not 100% sure on what kind max has)

Ellis quickly bent down picking it off the floor "I'm so sorry" Ellie said as she extended her hand out to give it back to the person only to pause as her eyes met a familiar red.

"Max" Ellie breathed, the red head paused looking away from her cassette player and up into the girls eyes, Ellie almost melted as she stood there.

"Do I know you" the red head laughed as she grabbed her cassette player from Ellie's hand, Ellie felt every nerve in her hand shiver as Maxs hand brushed against hers.

"I— uh, no. I don't think so. We just sat next to each other in Clarke—class, Mr Clarke's class" Ellie stumbled out.

I'm about 1 more sentence away from throwing my head into one of these machines.

"Oh yeah, I remember you" max said, which made a smile grow on Ellie's face. She remembers me.

"You were the one sitting on the stairs at recess, right" she really remembers me.

"Uh, yeah, i was sitting with my friend Josie" Ellie said stretching the ends of her sleeves into her hands.

"Oh. Cool" Max said with a small nod.

Ellie looked at max then down to the ground, fiddling with her sleeves "I'm gonna go play my game, I'll see you later" max said awkwardly before walking off.

Ellie watched her walk off until she went around the corner and Ellie could no longer see her "idiot" Ellie mumbled to herself before turning around and going to find Josie.

in case you were confused, anytime something is in italics it means that that's what Ellie is thinking.

Also I know this chapter is kinda short but if I try to make it longer it'll just get messy so next chapter should be longer.
