Chapter 9: Ian

It had been a mistake going home for the weekend.

What the hell was I thinking agreeing to this?!

Ian couldn't stop looking at his reflection in the full-length mirror. This, quite possibly, was the most humiliating day of his miserable existence.

There was a knock at the door. Ian didn't move.

"You can't stay in there forever, little brother."

"Wanna bet, Tabitha. I look like a deranged man-baby," he yelled through the closed door.

"You owe me, remember!"

That's right, he did owe her—big time. He should've stayed at college. Told his mum he had assignments to do. Which was true, but he was so far ahead. One weekend spent at home was no big deal. So he came and then he borrowed his sister's car, and then he crashed it.

"Fine, but you're buying me dinner."

He eased the door open slowly and closed his eyes as his sister survived his appearance.

"Oh man, this is pure gold," she said between giggles.

Next, there was an audible click.

What the...

Poor Ian's baby blue eyes shot open and widened as Tabitha took another photo.

"Tabitha! Delete those immediately!"

"Sorry little brother, no can do. I need a few more favors from you, I'm afraid."

"I'm going to get you for this. You know that, right?" Ian narrowed his eyes at his sister.

"That's a problem for future Tabitha. Right now, I'm going to savour this sweet, sweet moment."

"Just give me the damn catalogues," he growled as he stormed past her, wearing only an adult diaper and angel wings.

"Hey, don't forget your bow and arrow, cupid," Tabitha yelled after him.

Ian crept out the front of his sister's recently opened jewellery store, sticking close to the front pillar. Perhaps if he clung to the exterior, people would be less likely to notice him.

Unfortunately, he had no such luck when a girl dancing by the fountain, surely no older than fifteen, laughed and pointed at him. Many heads then turned in his direction. He was mortified at the amount of smiles and sniggering he received.

Stupid adult diaper.

His sister would definitely pay for this—right after he paid her insurance premium.

There was no avoiding the extreme embarrassment, so he decided he may as well make the best of the situation. His dignity was in the back room of the jewellery store, anyway.

Ian scanned the fountain area where he was confronted by happy couples out to enjoy the valentines festivities the mall was putting on. Perfect customers for Tabitha's elegant jewellery—annoyingly happy and in love.

Despite the laughs he received, he did his job and handed out the leaflets that advertised valentines specials. Most people he didn't know, so he eventually relaxed a little and even enjoyed pretending to shoot kids with his red plastic bow and arrow.

That was, until a group of girls started towards him from the far side of the food court. It was his ex-girlfriend, Mel.

Great! He inwardly groaned.

They'd broken up just before he'd left for college the year before. He had dated her mainly because she was pretty (yes; he was that shallow), but her personality was awful. It hadn't lasted long before her high-pitched voice grated on his last nerve and he unceremoniously dumped her in front of the entire school. Needless to say, she still held a grudge.

"Look what we have here, girls," Mel said as she approached. She was wearing a uniform from the burger joint in the food court.

"Go away, Mel." He had no patience for that troll anymore. Because that was exactly what she was—a troll on all his social media.

"But I want a catalogue," she pouted as she drew closer.

"You can't afford anything in here, so move along."

Instantly, her smirk was replaced by a scowl, and she launched at him. He stumbled back, losing his footing as she tried to tug his diaper off. Unfortunately, in the process of holding on to that diaper for dear life and landing on his butt, all the leaflets floated through the air.

The girls burst into fits of laughter. "Serves you right for being such a loser," Mel snapped.

Mall security appeared behind them and told them to leave. Two massive guys that no one would dare question. As Mel and the rest of the clowns scampered away yelling how unfair the world was, Ian started to pick up all the leaflets. It took him a second to realise he had a helper—a very pretty helper.

She smiled at him as she quietly picked the pieces of paper up one by one. He smiled back; he was sure he knew her from school.

"Molly, isn't it?"

She nodded and kept on silently helping him.

"Thanks, Molly, I really appreciate this."

"No problem, Ian. Cute diaper, by the way."
