thirteen || a disastrous change

"Hey! Choi Yeonjun! Wait up for me!"
Yeonjun's eyebrow raised slightly in confusion after hearing a muffled sounding voice come from behind him, taking out one of his earbuds he turned around and saw Soobin running after him excitedly, like a child who saw a dog for the first time.
"Soobin," Yeonjun groaned softly when the male got closer. "What are you doing? What do you want? Don't you know I prefer to walk alone now?"
"Walk alone?" Soobin snorted, trying to catch his breath as the two began to walk in the direction of school. "I thought the infamous Choi Yeonjun loves walking with his friends?"
"Well," The male licked his lips, knowing Soobin was right, but ever since Beomgyu started dating Taehyun the three of them haven't been walking together at all, it disappointed him but it was better if he walked alone in the morning so he could recollect himself. "The 'infamous' Choi Yeonjun or whatever you said, also likes walking alone."
Soobin chuckled softly and nodded, silencing himself the two of them walked silently towards the school without a single word for the next two minutes, and if Yeonjun was honest it kinda bothered him.
"Don't you have any other friends, Soobin?" Yeonjun spoke up suddenly, causing the blonde to look at him. "You have a bunch of friends, why don't you walk with them every morning?"
"Huhhh?" Soobin gasped out, almost as if he were offended Yeonjun had said that. "What do you mean I have a bunch of other friends? I do but..."
As the blonde trailed off, Yeonjun glanced up at him in confusion as to why he suddenly stopped talking, examining the males face to see if he could spot any other emotion than confusion.
"I..." Soobin stopped himself once again, causing Yeonjun to grumble slightly.
"Just say it, Soobin, you're getting on my ner—"
"I like walking alone with you."
Yeonjun pursed his lips in shock, staring at the male without a word he turned his head away quickly to avoid making eye contact.
He didn't expect that at all.
His heart was racing so much, he could feel it beating with that familiar woozy painful lovesick feeling he's been experiencing almost every day.
Is it because he still had feelings for Soobin? Beginning to overthink every word the male had just said it made him start to wonder if there was possibly a chance...?
No.
He shouldn't think that.
"Don't you still like Beomgyu?" Yeonjun wondered out loud, causing him to instantly slap his hand over his mouth when he realized what he had just said that shocked the both of them.
Soobin's mouth parted open as if he were about to say something, but during that moment only nothing but silence came out of him, almost like he had absolutely no idea how to reply to what Yeonjun had just said.
"I..."
"No! It's fine, I-I don't know why I asked that anyway." Yeonjun coughed out loudly, looking down as his face scrunched up in anger. "...sorry."
"No, it's fine, I figured something like that would be told around the school, since I did tell my friends and all," Soobin reassured the male, but his reassurance really did sound a bit awkward. "I just didn't expect you to know."
"I knew that Beomgyu didn't like me back, but I just couldn't help myself from falling for him." Soobin said softly, the pace of their walking became slower as the two talked, perhaps it's because they were becoming so immersed in the conversation they were having.
"I just didn't expect him to come out saying he's datinf Kang Taehyun," Soobin mumbled, a slight tone of disappointment laced in his words. Quickly side eyeing Yeonjun he cleared his throat and half smiled. "But there's nothing wrong with Kang Taehyun at all! I think he's a good match for Beom."
Yeonjun immediately stopped in his tracks when Soobin had said that, his sudden halt made the blonde stop in his tracks as well to look back at the elder.
"S-Say that again?"
"That there's nothing wrong with Taehyun?"
"No!" Yeonjun replied, shaking his head. "After that, what you said about Beom and..."
"That they're a good pair together?" Soobin repeated what he said earlier, tilting his head slightly to make sure what he said was correct.
Yeonjun stared at the blonde in shock, did he really think that the two were a good pair? If he were honest with himself, both Taehyun and Beomgyu were equally good looking so that made them look good with one another, and with the hang out yesterday when the two of them spent alone... he'd admit they looked comfortable around one another.
It just felt so odd hearing it come from Soobin straight up, maybe it was because he had been trying so hard to get Beomgyu to confess those feelings he had assumed he had for Soobin.
"You really think that...?"
"Of course, although, it does look a bit awkward right now when they're together," Soobin hummed softly, his eyes staring at the flowers that were flying by in the air. "But I think that's just because it's the beginning stage of their relationship, I noticed at the arcade that Taehyun had brought out that competitive side of Beomgyu we rarely see, pure excitement and joy we're in his eyes when he was with him."
"I think that this relationship for Beomgyu, will finally make him happier than ever...Don't you?" Soobin said softly, moving his attention to Yeonjun who stared at him in shock.
If Yeonjun was honest, he could just tell Soobin the truth about everything... but was the truth really the truth?
He started to feel guilty for assuming everything, maybe Beomgyu did like Kang Taehyun but just kept it a secret for a while, maybe all of those times where he would see Soobin and Beomgyu together, when it seemed like the two were painfully pining each other in the most obvious way, was just him over examining everything.
"Besides," Soobin sighed exhaustedly, "I think it's time for me to move on, it's selfish to be upset that my old crush has a boyfriend that makes him happy now."
The elder stayed silent and just nodded, he couldn't peel his eyes away from the ground due to the amount of anger he felt at himself for assuming so much and putting the blame on his best friend.
That was until he felt a soft hand wrap around his wrist, forcing him to look up at the blonde that was smiling at him softly.
It made Yeonjun's heart hurt so much.
"Hyung, I can tell you're upset." Soobin said in a knowing tone, it doesn't help that the two of them have been best friends for years now. "Should we go get some ice cream?"
"At seven in the morning, Soobin, really?" Yeonjun scoffed, finding the idea of eating ice cream this early in the morning absolutely goofy.
The blondes jaw dropped slightly at what the elder had just said, completely offended by the rejection of free ice cream he scoffed and rolled his eyes playfully.
"You know it's never too early for ice cream," Soobin smiled, "Pretty fox."
Yeonjun was barely hanging on to the last thread of sanity he had, hearing that childhood nickname come out from Soobin's mouth made his heart literally feel like it was about to explode into several pieces.
"You need to shut up, now hurry up and get your ass moving before we're late to class." He said quickly to cover up his sudden embarrassment, ripping his wrist out of Soobin's hold so he could walk away fast to avoid looking at the male.
Soobin smiled even wider and walked faster to catch up, "Since when did you care about being late?"
"I've always cared! Just not enough, now shut up!"
A loud annoying laugh was heard from behind him as Soobin began to go off about random stuff (more like begging the male that he should help him with homework) which distracted him from the most part, distracted from those upsetting feelings that swirled in his stomach.
Even though he felt happy, he couldn't help but ask one question to himself.
Would it be okay... if he really did try with Soobin...?

"Please pick up all your belongings and prepare to change seats everyone."
The loud sound of disappointment and sad groans echoed throughout the classroom when Mr. Son had announced that it was time for the mid term seating arrangement change.
Most students in his class hated it when he changed the seating arrangement, being seated far away from your best friend really is a disappointment, but to Beomgyu he enjoyed it sometimes! There were times where he would be put next to Yeonjun or Soobin but he really did prefer to be put next to someone he hardly knew so he could become friends with them.
"Once I calm out your names come up to the front and draw a number from the box," Mr. Son said after the complaining died down, causing most students to sulk. "Whatever number you choose is the seat you'll be staying in before until next semester."
"Why cant we choose our own seats? It's not fair!"
"Keep us by our friends, we should decide seats by height arrangement!"
"No way, we should do it in age order!"
"We are doing it my way, now all of you quit complaining before I choose your seats myself." Mr. Son replied, an irritated tone was heard as students gave up trying to convince their teacher otherwise.
After a few more minutes of bickering here and there, it was finally Beomgyu's turn to draw a card. Thanking Mr. Son for handing him the box he stuck his hand inside and drew out a small note that had the number '1' on it, which signified that he had gotten the seat next to the window in the first row.
Nodding his head in satisfaction with the seat he got, the male held his stuff to him closer as he walked over to his seat, occasionally being stopped by classmates here and there to ask if they got to sit next to him or not, which unfortunately none of them got to.
The window seats are the best seats, Beomgyu thought, a small smile spreading over his lips as he placed his bag down on his desk. I get a view of the beautiful mini garden the gardening club has been working on!
Dunk!
Flinching slightly from the sudden loud dunk next to him the male instantly turned his head and saw a black backpack placed down on the desk next to him which caused him to look up to see who it belonged to.
"Taehyun?" Beomgyu gasped in shock, he did not expect the male to suddenly appear next to him like this. "What are you doing? Y-You're sitting here?"
"Mhm," Taehyun replied dryly, almost as if he wasn't phased by the seating arrangement, but to Beomgyu...? He was full on panicking. "A seat next to you, hyung, isn't that funny."
"Oh! You guys are sitting next to each other? How lucky and adorable!"
The two of them turned their heads around after a voice behind them spoke up, a voice that belonged to none other than everyone's favorite character, Seong-jin!
"Seriously, you're behind us?" Taehyun grumbled angrily, an irritated tone obviously coming out as he turned around to face the front and avoid Seong-jin's annoying face.
"Taehyun!" Beomgyu hissed out, feeling bad for the male who had a hurt expression on his face. "I'm sorry Seong-jin, ignore him. But it's great to know you're sitting behind us!"
"Of course," Seong-jin smiled happily, even though he was really irritated with Kang Taehyun. "I love to support my favorite couple!"
Beomgyu smiled cheekily and turned around in his seat, he couldn't help but feel his cheeks start to heat up after hearing Seong-jin compliment them on being a couple, it was something he heard everyday but this time it made him feel even more woozy than before.
It's not like we're a real couple... Beomgyu's eyes flickered over to Taehyun who was busy flipping through his notebook to find notes on something. It feels a little embarrassing...but...
He felt confused on how he felt when people tell him that when he was with Taehyun they make a great couple, he had always heard others say the perfect couple would always be him and...
"Hyung, do you have a pencil I can borrow?" Taehyun asked nonchalantly, snapping Beomgyu out of his daze.
"H-Huh?" The male stuttered out before fixing his posture and nodding, grabbing his backpack he dug out a pencil and handed it to Taehyun who hummed softly. "I thought you had pencils?"
"I forgot them." Taehyun replied dryly, ignoring the pencil case that was sitting on the corner of his desk.
Beomgyu raised his eyebrow suspiciously but decided to just brush it off, turning his head towards the window he stared outside trying to clear out all of his heavy thoughts that began to cloud his mind.
I might be uncomfortable when people compliment my relationship with Taehyun.... Beomgyu pondered with a frown, maybe that odd feeling he had been experiencing was just discomfort.
It's all temporary anyway, the moment Yeonjun and Soobin get together then... everything will end.
But why did thinking about it ending feel so... odd...?
-
"You're sitting in front of me, Huening Kai?" Yeonjun asked the male when he got to his seat, startling the poor male when he was just trying to sketch in peace.
"U-Uhm," Huening Kai choked out, feeling a bit shy but happy that someone he knew was close to him. He had always sat by Taehyun when they arranged seats but now he had to sit next to someone named Yang Jeongin or something? "Yeah..."
"That's nice, don't snitch on me when I fall asleep okay?" Yeonjun said in a teasing tone that lowkey came out as a threatening one, causing the person (who's name is like Changbin or something, he doesn't remember) to side eye him awkwardly.
"Yeah, I won't, don't worry." Huening Kai sighed softly, turning back his attention towards his notebook which gave Yeonjun a better view of the couple in the front that were talking to each other.
"Taehyun and Beomgyu got to sit next to each other?" He questioned, but it almost sounded like he was asking himself the question.
"Kang Taehyun asked me to switch seats with him," A voice besides him spoke up, causing him to look over and make eye contact with Huh Yunjin. "I don't like sitting in the front so I agreed."
Yeonjun nodded slowly and stared at the couple in the front, noticing how red Taehyun's ears were when the two of them held eye contact for more than five seconds.
It had him thinking about what Soobin had said earlier in the morning, that Taehyun somehow brought out a side of Beomgyu that they rarely see. It really did make him question everything that has happened within the past two or three (he lost count) week.
"Isn't it weird though?" A soft spoken voice spoke up from behind him, causing him to turn around and make eye contact with Miyuki who had her hand resting on her cheek.
"What's weird?" Yeonjun grumbled softly, feeling a little irritated knowing that this girl was one of Seong-jin's minions. "What are you talking about?"
"I'm talking about Beomgyu and Taehyun of course!" She pouted, her voice becoming higher in a way to swoon Yeonjun over who only grimaced at the tone.
"It was all so sudden, their relationship? Totally out of the blue!" She sighed, her tone becoming more and more agitating, almost as if she were trying to irritate Yeonjun. "If there was really something going on between them don't you think they'd show signs earlier?"
"A relationship that appears out of no where is very strange, Choi Yeonjun-ssi." She said, a slight smug smirk growing on her lips when she saw Yeonjun's expression falter.
It caused the male to turn around and stare at the couple who were now facing away from one another, he didn't want to listen to Miyuki at all, but what she said really started to get into his head.
Was there really something strange happening between Beomgyu and Taehyun...?
