seven || an unexpected confession

ʚ♡ɞ

"I want to talk to you."

Beomgyu stood there in shock, he didn't expect this at all. After days and days of avoiding the male, he had finally appeared right before him asking to talk to him?

"But what about your club? Shouldn't you be there right now?" He asked the elder who didn't react at all, he had hoped that Soobin would finally think about his club and leave him alone, his anxious mind was blasting through the roof right now.

"They'll be okay, I told Changmin I'd stay behind for a bit."

"Ah..."

"Is it okay if we talk? I know you've been avoiding me but..." Soobin mumbled, scratching the back of his head as he looked away from the male.

Beomgyu thought about it for a minute, would it be okay if he did talk to Soobin? He practically cut him off for the sake of his friendship with Yeonjun, so much for trying to avoid and get over the male.

But he also knew it would be rude, Soobin really looked like he wanted to talk to him, he could see the hint of desperation in the elders eyes as he looked at the ground, avoiding all eye contact with the male. Something he did when he was nervous.

"I..." Beomgyu mumbled out, he felt so guilty, his heart was hurting. But the memory of Yeonjun saying he liked Soobin kept flashing through his mind. "...Make it short, I don't want to be late to my first day of club!"

A sigh of relief left Soobin's lips, bringing his hand up to his chest he looked back at Beomgyu and smiled half-heartedly. "Thank you, Beom."

The blondes expression changed slightly, his eyes dimming down in a guilty manner. "I just wanted to apologize to you, Beomgyu-ah."

"Apologize?" Beomgyu repeated, as if he couldn't believe that the male wanted to apologize to him. He didn't do anything?

"Yeah, apologize." Soobin sighed, leaned against the window, his eyes staring down at Beomgyu with the most tender look ever. "I was trying to find the right timing this week, but i've been busy..."

Extremely busy... Beomgyu thought, his thoughts becoming slightly bitter before snapping himself out of that daze. "I don't understand..."

Soobin chuckled softly, almost as if he knew this would confuse Beomgyu.

"I'm talking about the day we parted, it must've been because of me right? I must've been too excited over everything and that caused pressure on you." Soobin explained to him, his tender expression slowly becoming more serious.

"Pressure?" Beomgyu mumbled out, in no way did he ever feel pressure because of Soobin, he felt pressure because of the brain eating memory of Yeonjun liking Soobin kept biting at him. "I should be the to apol—"

"No, no Beom, please listen to me." Soobin interrupted him, instantly making the male silent.

A deep anxious exhale lefts the males lips, standing up straight he stared at Beomgyu with an expression he had never seen before.

"You probably know by now right? About everything?" Soobin said, pathetically chuckling. "I hesitated so much to tell you because I thought it would change the way how things are right now." He continued on. His voice was shaky and his body language just screamed discomfort.

"But with all of the rumors spiraling around, I guess it's time..." He mumbled, looking straight at Beomgyu with an almost saddened look.

"You know that I like you, right?"

Beomgyu stood there in shock, processing the three words Soobin said that stood out to him the most. Staring at the elder in shock, he could feel his world freeze as a warm blush spread across his cheeks and his heart raced up, his mouth gaped open by how unexpected this was.

Soobin noticed the males shocked expression, his eyes widened as he backed up from the male. "I'm sorry! I...I should've known that would put more stress on you!"

No matter how badly he wanted to respond to the elder, saying he liked him back...

He knew it wasn't his place to do that, he wasn't meant for Soobin.

"I just..." The blonde spoke up after noticing the awkward silence on Beomgyu's end. "I just felt like because of that everything got awkward between us and it made you pressured, that's why you told me to talk to others, which is understandable."

"So if it's okay with you...Is it okay if we still remain friends? Please don't let my mistakes break our friendship apart, i'm certain Yeonjun wouldn't want that either."

This is what Beomgyu wanted, to have Soobin not like him anymore.

"Ah! No worries!" The male instantly smiled, his pure joy agenda back on display, startling the male in front of him. "I'd love nothing more than that, thank you for telling me this, hyung!"

Yet... Beomgyu thought, tuning out Soobin little rant of how happy he was that things weren't awkward between them. He tried his best to not left his smile falter. For some reason...

I feel so disappointed...

Beomgyu sighed softly, it had been an entire hour since his conversation with Soobin.

He tried his best to distract himself with all of these random art supplies Huening Kai threw at him the moment he entered the classroom, but the entire time it was like his mind was in a whole other place.

Staring off into space, he dragged his paint brush across the canvas mindlessly. Just stroking random lines in random places as he sighed heavily time to time.

Soobin hyung likes me... something that I had always hoped for. He thought, his grip on the paintbrush loosening a bit as he dove deeper into his heavy thoughts. I feel so conflicted...

I'm supposed to be a good friend for Yeonjun.

I have to make Yeonjun and Soobin happy, they're meant for each other.

I can't be selfish, I won't be selfish. Yeonjun will be happy, and so will Soobin.

If only—

"Hey, Choi Beomgyu, you dropped the paint brush."

The sudden feeling of a soft hand brushing against his made Beomgyu instantly snap out of his daze, looking over to the side his eyes widened in an instant seeing how close Kang Taehyun was next to him, their faces almost inches apart.

Just like a classical main character moment in a very cliché kdrama, it was like everything faded away, immediately being lost in the males eyes, he couldn't help but stare and notice all of the details he hadn't noticed before.

How are your eyes so dull yet so light at the same time...?

"Uhm..."

Beomgyu snapped out of his daze AGAIN, instantly realizing the slight uncomfortable expression Taehyun had he squeaked and backed up, completely forgetting that he was on a stool and ended up falling backwards with a loud thud.

"Are you okay?" He heard Taehyun call out, but his mind was running all over the place like a carousel he couldn't even focus on the sharp pain on his bum and the slight judgmental stare from Taehyun.

What is going on? Get a grip of yourself, Beomgyu! He thought, exhaling softly and slowly stood up, wiping the imaginary dust off of his pants and looked up at the male across from him who stared at him in confusion. Quick! Think of something to say!

"Wow! Kang Taehyun! What are you doing here?"

really beomgyu.

The pink haired male just blinked at him, slowly squinting his eyes he tilted his head. "Did you... hit your head too hard?"

"Whaaaaaaat?" Beomgyu chuckled, dragging on his word awkwardly, scratching his head he strained a smile that obviously looked force.

"Are you?—"

"Where's Huening Kai? I swear he was right next to me!" Beomgyu interrupted the male from asking if he was okay again, he already embarrassed himself enough so he was definitely not going to continue.

"Club ended like ten minutes ago, you've been here just painting," The male paused, glancing over at the canvas Beomgyu was painting on. "Almost fifteen smiley faces on the canvas."

Beomgyu eyes widened in shock, glancing over at the clock, the male in front of him was right, club was officially over for the day. How far was he in his headspace to not even notice like four people leave the room excluding Taehyun?

"Well uh..." Taehyun spoke up, causing Beomgyu to look back at him. He noticed how the latter was awkwardly standing there, almost as if he were waiting for him to leave the club room. "You can leave, I'll just be here... cleaning..."

Talk about awkward. Beomgyu thought, shaking the odd thoughts that formed in his head away. Whatever came over him when the two of them were that close together was probably him being stressed because of the confession Soobin annouced, he just needed to go home and sleep... Right after homework...

He sighed and went over to the table to gather his supplies, glancing over at Taehyun he watched the male carefully clean some paint off of brushes and start to rearrange materials back into their rightful position. Something about the pink head made Beomgyu's stomach spark up with curiosity, he had never paid attention to the male in his classroom, and as rude as it sounds... he didn't even know he existed.

I guess I was so caught up with Yeonjun and Soobin I never noticed him, but it's reasonable though, he's very quiet.

Looking away, he walked over towards the door before freezing at the thought of Yeonjun. He had totally forgotten that he should really apologize to Taehyun about the rude comments the elder made on him.

"Kang Taehyun?" Beomgyu called out, turning around as he walked over towards the male who instantly looked at him when his name was called. "I hope what Yeonjun hyung said didn't offend you."

The pink head tilted his head, a little action that Beomgyu began to notice whenever he was confused. "What do you mean?"

"I mean the day we wished each other to have a good lunch, remember? You must've heard him say some mean things considering you and Huening Kai were still in the cafeteria."

"I remember now, it's fine."

"And I understand you would want me—" Beomgyu paused for a second, staring at the male in shock. "— Huh...?"

"I said it's fine, you're only apologizing because it's only us two here and that what had happened will leave an awkward mark between us. I know you don't mean it, it's fine." Taehyun said, looking back at the paint brushes and gently dried them off. "So don't try too hard to please me just because you want to."

"Also, you don't have to try so hard at small talk, I'm not very good at it. So no need to fake being nice and all to get on my good side, I don't care at all about you or that Yeonjun person.

"You—"

"I feel like the person who needs to apologize is that Yeonjun person himself, you weren't involved at all, so why apologize on his behalf? Just because you're friends with him? How humorous."

He's really starting to tick me off... Beomgyu thought, forcing up a smile so his anger wouldn't take over. "I know but I just want—"

"I think it'd be better for the both of us if you'd just leave. Let me continue cleaning in peace."

Beomgyu stood there in shock, not knowing what to say. It was like every secret button in him had been pushed by none other than Kang Taehyun himself, a fuzzy feeling of annoyance began to rise in him as he stared at the male in front of him. He was such a...Such a...

"...Rude ass."

In an instant, the room became tense as the pink head turned his head back towards Beomgyu, staring at the male with an expression that almost looked like annoyance.

Beomgyu immediately slapped his mouth, staring at Taehyun with wide eyes. He didn't mean to swear at all, he rarely swears! It was probably because his buttons were pushed too far, but it wasn't a good reason to full on swear!

"I'm so sorry!" Beomgyu exclaimed and quickly bowed down. "I didn't mean to say that outloud — I'm so sorry!"

A low noise came from Taehyun, he couldn't tell if it was a tsk of annoyance or a small chuckle, either way Beomgyu felt extremely bad.

"I know i'm straightforward and all," Taehyun said, fully turning around and crossing his arms as he leaned against the table, watching Beomgyu stand up straight and stare at him as if he had just insulted a teacher. "But that didn't mean you can just flat out swear at me."

Beomgyu smiled awkwardly, a wave of irritating crashing down on him once again as he stared at the male who smirked slightly, almost as if he knew he was annoying him.

"You're interesting, Choi Beomgyu." He said, a soft chuckle mixed in as he turned around and walked over towards the middle of the room to gather up the rest of the supplies.

Beomgyu stood there in shock, not expecting that reaction at all. He was convinced that the male was the type of person to equally swear back at somebody who swore at him.

"You're not mad?"

"Why would I? Maybe just a bit offended but not fully mad."

"Really?"

"Are you going to leave yet?"

"Answer me!"

"I already answered you."

Why is this boy so stubborn?! Beomgyu grumbled, shaking his head, he glanced over at the clock and noticed that he should be home soon, but when he looked back at Taehyun he noticed the male struggling slightly with carrying everything.

A soft sigh left his lips as he shrugged off his backpack, letting it hit the ground he walked over to Taehyun and took some empty canvases out of his arms, startling the latter which made him look up at Beomgyu.

"What are you doing?"

"Helping you, take it as an apology for swearing at you."

Before Taehyun could protest, Beomgyu had already walked away to the end of the classroom and neatly placed down the canvases.

I shouldn't be rude, I should be getting along with him. He can't be that cold hearted like the rumors said. Beomgyu thought, looking over his shoulder to look at Taehyun who was staring at a painting with the most admiring gaze ever, a complete change from the cold persona he saw earlier.

"Admiring that painting over there?" Beomgyu spoke up, his tone more calmer than the strained annoyed one he had earlier.

The pink haired looked over at him for a quick second, shrugging his shoulders he hummed. "Art is just something you can admire, everyone is talented."

"So you think my fifteen smiley faces are admirable?"

Taehyun glanced back at the canvas Beomgyu scribbled all over earlier, with a soft hiss he shrugged once again. "Not really."

Beomgyu scoffed loudly, quite offended that the male didn't like his creation. He knew he wasn't that creative in the art section of things but he was sure that his smiley faces were great.

Before the male could say anything else the sudden blonde hair appearing in the corner of his eye caught his attention. Immediately snapping his head towards the window of the classroom his eyes widened seeing Choi Soobin in the hallway with a classmate of theirs.

He looked so happy...

Almost as if what they talked about earlier never happened.

He could feel his heart ping with pain, staring at the two as Soobin's smile never faded. Why did he even feel bad? He told the elder that it would be fine and that they would remain just friends, but part of him regrets not telling Soobin how he felt.

Taehyun's eyes lingered on the male for a few seconds, he could tell right away that the appearance of the blonde outside had an effect on Beomgyu.

Looking away he couldn't help but clench his jaw, ever since he eavesdropped on their conversation earlier it all seemed odd, in his eyes it definitely looked like Choi Beomgyu had feelings for Choi Soobin.

Glancing back over at Beomgyu, he sighed. "Choi Beomgyu," he called out, causing the latter to snap away from the two outside.

"I..." Taehyun mumbled. Why am I doing this?

Shaking his head, he shouldn't be so scared about this, he needed to be direct towards the male in front of him.

What he didn't expect at all were the words that came out of his mouth, almost as if he had spoken without a single thought.

"I thought you liked me, Choi Beomgyu."
