The Attic
Maya nonchalantly ran up the rough wooden stairs, not flinching once at the sharp creaks of the floor. She was used to the attic. Actually, Maya liked the darkness. The glow of moonlight through the only window was calming to her. As Maya plopped down on the worn mahogany, she heard a noise foreign to the attic. Silence. Her ears rung with the echoing quiet. Typically one would hear rustling papers, or the melodies of a songbird.
Then as Maya nervously sifted through the old, yellowed papers, she saw something new. A dark paper, folded neatly amongst the scrunched-up chaos. "Huh. I could've sworn that wasn't there earlier." The paper was folded with gentle hands, compared to the others, torn and crumpled.
As Maya hesitantly reached out to touch the mysterious document, a cool breeze seemed to caress her cheek. Her eyes scanned the words while her pale lips mouthed the elegant sentences.
"Dear Louie,
I don't know if you remember me, but this is Delilah. You loved me once. I miss you, Louie. Anyways, I wrote you this letter for a reason. I'm dying Louie. The doctors said I only have a fortnight at most to live. Please, if you ever loved me, visit me back in the old hospital, where we went as children. I want to see you Louie. Before Death steals me away forever.
Love, Delilah.
P.S. I know about Maya. Congratulations."
Shock ran through Maya's veins as she remembered that her fathers name was Louie. And that he had gone on a 'business trip' to Atlanta just yesterday.
