Lovers That Went Wrong ⎥Swanqueen

To say that Regina was shocked when Emma came back to Storybrooke was an understatement. However, she put on a brave face and turned towards the blonde that she had loved all those years ago. "You don't need to worry about me. I've moved on."

"Moving on and being over someone are two completely different things," she replied.

"I don't mean to sound rude, but I have somewhere to be, so we're going to have to cut this conversation short," Regina said, not sure how to respond to Emma's comment. After all, she wasn't over her and their history. Nodding, Emma stood up, grabbed her things and walked out of the raven-haired girl's office. When she made sure Emma left and was far away, she locked up the room and left herself. That conversation had brought up way too many memories and she needed to go to the one place that always made her feel better during times like this.

Finally, after a short drive, Regina managed to make it to the Sheriff's office without a single tear leaving her eyes. Heading inside, her gaze lingered on everything around the room and she found herself fingering the desk as a small smile found its way to her face. However, it quickly disappeared when she remembered the day that Emma left Storybrooke and the tears that were pooling in her eyes seemed to spill over. There was nothing she could do to stop it.

However, it seemed like Regina wasn't the only one that seemed to be reflecting on the memories of the past. Back at her house, no matter how many times she tried to convince herself otherwise, something had shifted in Emma. She was currently lying in bed, her thoughts wandering and her facial features void of any emotion. "This happiness seems to just be an illusion," she mumbled to herself. The blonde had done such a good job of repressing her emotions and all of a sudden, she comes back to her hometown and it seemed like everything had just made its way back to the surface.

That was also the reason why Emma found herself leaving her house and making her way to Regina's. She wasn't sure if this was a smart decision, but at the moment, she didn't really care.

Knocking on the door, Emma felt relieved when Regina opened up the door and didn't close it on her. "Hey, if it's not too much to ask, I was wondering if I could talk to you?"

"Yeah, we can sit on the porch," Regina said. Her eyes seemed red and it was pretty clear that she had spent the entire day crying. Emma felt a pang of guilt hit her chest.

The blonde and the raven-haired girl both sat down. After a moment, Emma decided to break the silence, "It sounded earlier like you had hope—"

Regina wasn't sure what else Emma was going to say, so she made sure to cut her off before she got the chance. "I'm sorry, but I think it was a mistake for you to come here. Goodbye Ms. Swan." It seemed like the minute those words left her mouth, they both flashbacked to the time where the Evil Queen said those words when they broke up.

Nodding her head, Emma grabbed her things and stood up. "If you think that's what's best, then I will leave." She turned her back on the other girl and walked away, Regina watching her until she was nothing but a blob of color in the distance. This is for the best, Regina though. Love is weakness. When she felt the tears streak her face once more, she made her way inside the house.

Regina was shocked when she woke up in the morning and found a text from Emma asking if she wanted to go into town together. She wasn't sure if it would be good for her grieving heart, but she did it anyway. She had things to say and she wanted to make sure they were said.

Before she could regret it, Regina found the words that she so desperately to say leave her lips. "I wanted you so badly to find love." She thought she saw a flash of something she couldn't exactly figure out what it was. Her mouth opened slightly, but she was cut off when Hook joined the two girls and kissed her. "I...um...I guess I should get going." She bid her farewells to the couple and went over to join Tinkerbell, forcing a smile on her face to mask the pain.

Rubbing her shoulder reassuringly, the fairy smiles softly in her direction. "You don't think you deserve it." Regina raised her eyebrows in confusion and Think gestured towards Emma and Hook. This caused the other girl to smile sadly and look down at the ground.

"That's what's holding you back." Regina spun on her heel, shock evident on her face. She knew that Emma was there, but she never thought that she would eavesdrop. Biting her bottom lip, she kept her gaze focused on the ground. "I don't know how to tell you this, but...Hook proposed. Despite everything that's happening and everything we've gone through, I want you to know that you will always be my first love."

Regina thought she saw something in Emma's eyes: A flicker of love, even if for the smallest amount of time. It seemed like those facial features were enough for the raven-haired girl to spill the secrets she had kept inside for so long. "I still love you." However, the reaction she hoped to get out of the blonde wasn't the one she got. She just watched as the blonde's jaw dropped to the floor and the Evil Queen ran in the opposite direction. They really were lovers that went wrong.
