Certain Things | klaroline
Caroline sat on the living room couch. She had her notebook on her lap and a pink pen in her hand. I was supposed to do my homework. But then he had to go downstairs and do his homework here, too. Now, she's distracted. With his brown hair which effortlessly looks good, icy blue eyes, and of course, his trademark smirks. The 'he' she was referring to was none other than Klaus Mikaelson.
Yes, yes. I know what you're thinking. Gorgeous, perfect Caroline Forbes having a crush on quiet, mysterious Klaus Mikealson. Unlikely, huh? Everybody thinks that's he's cold, arrogant and secretive. But when Hayley didn't, she noticed his sweet and sensitive side. It's sad that Hayley dumped Klaus for Jackson. She guesses Klayley didn't work. Forwood didn't, too. Klaus still hasn't moved on. They rarely see him. He spends most of his time alone. Tyler's been spending time with Jackson rather than him.
Then, Damon and Stefan went down the stairs sounding like a bunch of elephants trampling against each other. They ran into the living room. Damon threw a pillow at Stefan. Stefan caught it and threw it back. Damon dodged and it hit Caroline.
"Stefan!" she shrieked.
"Sorry, Caroline," Stefan said. He turned to Damon. "Give me my book back, Damon!"
Instead of answering, Damon ran into the kitchen, where Hayley and Katherine were washing the dishes. Stefan ran closely behind.
"Damon, Stefan! Stop it!" Katherine yelled at the boys, who were now hurling handfuls of water at each other.
"Bonnie! Elena! Tell your boyfriends to cut it out!" Hayley yelled.
"Stop it, boys—" Elena began.
"Or we will burn you both," Bonnie finished for her. Neither looked up from they magazines they were reading. Stefan and Damon continued to chase each other until they finally stopped upstairs.
Caroline felt Klaus stare at her, but when she looked in his direction, he went back to reading his book. A few minutes later, Caroline saw him steal looks at Hayley. She felt annoyed. She felt mad. She felt jealous. But most of all, she felt hurt. She was in a predicament. She had a crush, a pretty strong one, too. On the wrong person. Her pen fell with a clatter on the floor.
Oh, right. She was doing homework. Or trying to anyway. She was merely staring at a blank piece of paper. With one last look at Klaus, she picked up her pen and began to write.
Reasons why I can't have Klaus Mikealson
We're not that close.
He still has feelings for Hayley.
He treats everyone coldly.
I'm not really smart.
He probably hates me because I'm spoiled and annoying.
Caroline looked up from the paper she was writing on and Klaus didn't have to be in a in a one foot radius to notice that there were tears forming in her eyes. He put his notebooks down and walked towards her.
"What's up?" he said.
She jumped. She quickly tore the paper from her notebook and hid it under her bag.
"What? Nothing," she lied. She began to gather all her books.
"Care—" Klaus started. But Caroline had already gone up the stairs. He picked up her forgotten paper and opened it.
Caroline lied on her bed. Things were going through her mind. Why did I just run away like that? He probably had something to ask me. Oh my god. I missed an opportunity to talk to him. I'm so stupid!
She heard someone knock on the door. "It's open," she said.
Klaus walked in.
"I'm just here to give you your homework back," he said. "You left it downstairs, see."
He put the paper beside her and left.
Caroline opened the folding paper. In it, she found her own handwriting. And a bit of Klaus'.
Reasons why I can't have Klaus Mikealson
We're not that close. He isn't even that close to anyone here. That's true. But I know that if we all try hard enough, we can make it work.
He still has feelings for Hayley. How can you be so sure? Is it because of the way I look at her? If you could see how I look at you, I bet you'll be surprised at the difference.
He treats everyone coldly. True, but how can you hold that against me? They've never really given me a chance. I can be decent, you know.
I'm not really smart. What? How can you say that? You might not be book-smart, but I believe that you're very smart in your own little way. Don't be afraid of what other people will say. Show them who you really are. Stop hiding behind all that makeup. Besides, you're prettier without it.
He probably hates me because I'm spoiled and annoying. You're not. You're probably the only person who makes me feel better without even trying. You have to believe me; I love you for all that you are. I don't want you to change.
