Bridges | Haylijah
Elijah had barely done anything for days. He just stayed around his house and grieved. That was all he pretty much could think of doing. After all, the one person that helped him believe in true love again had died. What else do you do when something like that has happened to you? His family had known better than to disrupt him. If there was anything they knew, it was how much their brother had loved Hayley Marshall.
Today, however, it seemed like the grief was hitting harder than usual. The memories of her were running through his brain as tears streamed down his face. They seemed to be playing in chronological order, like a storybook. Starting from the moment he laid eyes on her when he first met her to her death. The last moments of her life seemed to be playing in slow-motion. He loved her with everything in him and he was part of the reason she was dead.
He loved her. Hell, he thought she was his soulmate and it was because of him that he would never be graced with her presence again. He didn't know how he would ever forgive himself and he didn't want to others to either. He helped kill Hope's mother, Davina's friend and one of the very few people that were able to get Klaus to feel. Finally, his sobbed had quieted and he sat there in utter silence.
"Elijah." He turned around, ready to tell whoever had entered to leave him alone. He wasn't in any mood for socialization. Eyebrows furrowed, he wasn't sure what had happened because there was no one behind him. "Elijah," the voice repeated. His eyes had widened as he finally recognized the voice. It was Hayley. He didn't know if she was actually speaking to him from the Other Side or if it was just his imagination, but he knew what he needed to do.
"I'm sorry, Hayley. I'm so sorry. You need to believe me."
Finally, he knew that the time for wallowing was no more. He knew that Hayley wouldn't want to see him like this. Picking up a clean suit, he quickly changed. He fixed his hair up to the best of his ability. The least he could do was honor her memory by looking as best as possible.
Elijah then left the house for the first time in days. He decided to walk to the dock, knowing that the fresh air might do him some good.
There was a tree that had her name carved into it and he walked over to it. He fingered the engraving and took it all in. It was beautiful. Just like she was.
Once he was done there, he made his way over to the dock. Elijah just stood there, watching the water and being alone with his thoughts. There were so many times he wanted to go there with Hayley, so much he wanted to tell her, and now he couldn't. "I'm sorry, Hayley. I love you and I promise I'll avenge you. I'll make it up to you. You have my word."
And with that, he stayed there for the rest of the day and watched until the sunset blurred into a multitude of colors. As he left, his eyes were glued to the moon and he hoped that he was on the other side watching him.
