Abuse ⎢Katherine Pierce
Katherine doesn't know why the world goes insane over the summer she's in Bulgaria.
But she is very displeased by it.
She sucks on her straw, glaring at Katie and Gaby. She's sitting between Bonnie, who's highlighting and muttering darkly to herself, and Elena, who's texting Stefan while pretending to read some indie book, on the leather sofa, and Katherine hates the world.
Caroline follows her gaze and nods sympathetically. "I know, right? Disgusting. They're terrible together."
Katherine sucks harder on her straw. When she left, Katie was out and proud, some problems with her parents, sure, but Katie was seeing girl after girl. Katherine even rather liked Anna.
And then Katherine goes back to where she was born and Katie is in a committed, monogamous relationship. With Gaby. Gross.
Katherine is really regretting not letting Emily torture the girl properly.
She reaches the bottom of her drink with a terrible sound and sucks harder.
"Oh my gosh, shut up," Bonnie hisses.
"Katherine, are you okay?" Elena looks up from her phone, brown eyes worried.
"I know," Caroline nods. "I agree."
Bonnie frowns, only taking a few seconds to follow Katherine's baleful stare and Caroline's disapproval. Her face twists in disbelief when she realizes they're looking at Katie and Gaby.
"We're really going to do this again?" Bonnie demands. "Katherine, Katie really likes Gaby."
"Gaby tried to kill her," Caroline says, disapproval and attitude in her voice.
"What!" Katherine says. Why did no one tell her this?
"Yeah. At the pool Gaby held Katie's head under water," Caroline tattles.
"It was an accident!" Elena repeats with more enthusiasm.
"Is that what we're calling attempted murder? An accident?" Caroline says.
"Bonnie, why are you letting Katie date someone who tried to kill her?" Katherine questions with venom in her voice.
"No, Katherine, we're supposed to call it an accident," Caroline snips and her and Elena get in a heated argument.
Katherine ignores them to turn her accusing eyes on Bonnie. Bonnie was supposed to protect the girls from themselves while she was gone. Did the drugs scramble her brains?
Bonnie rolls her eyes. "Katie is a big girl. I think she can make her own dating decisions."
Laughter from Katie and Gaby catches everyone's attention and Katherine scowls. "Clearly not."
Bonnie sighs, puts her book to the side, and says, "Katherine, your jealousy was adorable last year. It's now annoying. Either ask Katie out or kill Gaby, just put us out of our miseries."
"What?" Katherine asks.
She tries glaring at Bonnie, but Elena's flinch and Caroline's, "I still think it's cute," stops her.
"You think I'm jealous?" Katherine demands, incredulous.
"You did chase off Katie's other girlfriends," Elena says, delicately.
"Well, yeah," Caroline shrugs. "You've only been in love with each other for years."
"Not true!" Katherine says, and rather belatedly adds, "and I'm not in love with Katie."
Bonnie snorts, immensely amused by Katherine's statement. "You always interfered. They wanted to date Katie. Not Katie and Katherine. Her girlfriends always hated you."
Elena looks uncomfortable and awkward. "Except Anna...but she thought all three of you were dating."
Katherine stares. That would explain Anna spending too much on Katherine's Christmas gift too...and how sad Anna had been the last time they really talked. Anna had been breaking up with her. Huh.
Caroline winces. "Too soon for you to accept your lesbian feelings? Because I've been reading about this and all the websites say too soon and—"
"I'm not gay," Katherine protests.
Bonnie flat-out laughs at this. Elena attempts to disappear into the couch, but the leather cushions want nothing to do with her.
"Is bisexual how you identify?" Caroline asks. "I didn't mean to be insensitive."
"Caroline." Katherine stops there because what can she say?
"Katherine is in denial," Bonnie says, her laughter dying down. "She hasn't realized this whole time she's been in love with Katie."
"Don't know how anyone could have missed it," Elena says under her breath and Katherine considers pushing her off the couch.
"Oh! So we should hold an intervention like we did for Bonnie and Damon?" Caroline says, enlightenment dawning on her.
The world had indeed gone insane on Katherine, and she could only handle one thing at a time. Getting up for a refill, and maybe also to make Gaby feel like a third wheel, whatever, she is a great multitasker, Katherine leaves the couch and the bickering girls behind her.
She is not in love with Katie.
She just really, really hates Gaby.
