The ride to the Jeon empire felt arduous as it felt the first time though this time with an added layer of betrayal.
Yoongi knew what he had to do.
Bring the young prince to your kingdom.
He closed his eyes as he bumped his head against the top of the carriage. Keeping, he imagined the fallout. He saw the fight waiting to happen. Maybe this would be the straw that broke the metaphorical camels back regarding your relationship.
He loves you like an older brother loves his younger sibling. When he saw that you were having the time of your life with Seokjin, Jimin, Taehyung, and Namjoon, he knew he just had to strike a deal with your father.
Allow him to make the other, younger three permanent guests of the palace. In return he would do anything.
He was not excited for the person he'd have to sentence to death next.
Once he heard what your father had planned for you, he almost exploded with rage.
It was such a disgusting plan. He knew he couldn't agree to it. And yet here he was, about to bring an important proponent to this plan right into your fathers kingdom like your future and feelings meant nothing.
To your father, that statement was quite true.
While it wasn't true that you meant nothing to him, your feelings and future must all be molded for the sake of the empire.
Yoongi recoiled in hatred.
He hates your father.
That fact he had come to accept long ago. When he first moved into the castle, he noticed the way your father treated you. He hated it. You were just a poor, innocent child who had done no wrong.
Yet still...
The ever looming threat of war was on the horizon.
Your father had shown Yoongi the declaration the day after he received it. It was a bold statement from the Choi Empire, stating that if the L/N empire does not back down and give in to their demands, there would be war on the horizon. Your father held a council in which Yoongi had the 'honor' to be a part of.
It was just a winded rant about how to save your fathers ass.
In the end, your father decided to refuse the demands, much to the protests of nearly everyone in the room. Yoongi had stayed silent. He refused to comment.
There had been many meetings of the like in the following days. Ones where Yoongi had to sit through your father whining about how he could escape the kingdom and not take responsibility for his horrible actions against other empires. There were many advisors from many a small surrounding nation that were called in to help provide arms for the war. There were envoys who would refer to Yoongi as the "Future King" before he corrected them, saying that title would be passed to his younger sibling. The envoys would look at him with something akin to pity, likely saying "Shame you weren't good enough to get the crown, now your younger sibling gets it? Must be emasculating." Yoongi would scoff and wave them off, knowing deep down that he would never be right for the position of king, even if he did want it. Which he didn't.
He didn't envy you one bit. He saw the kind of man your father was and knew you would bust your ass to be the exact opposite. You would be kind, benevolent, caring, charismatic, a ruler anyone would look up to. Yet the stress that comes with a position of that kind... No one would want to be in your position.
Yoongi forced himself to look out the window.
Same old scenery, rolling, grassy hills and trees taller that his line of sight could account for. Sometimes there would be a creek or a river. Sometimes a bug would fly into the window. He'd laugh at that. Cows would sometimes pass by, or sometimes sheep. Sometimes pigs. More often than not it was cows, though. Or horses. You would be entertained for days poking his shoulder then pointing to the window every time you saw some cattle or livestock fade from your vision. Your fascination with the mundane was what Yoongi admired about you, how you could take something so simple and make it so wonderous and adventurous.
He hoped Jin remembered what he said and took it to heart.
After all, people like you don't come around every day.
If Yoongi was anything, he was observant. He saw the way you'd twirl your hair or bite your nails when you were nervous, he also does the latter. He noticed Jimin subtly flirting with him for a few months. He noticed how Namjoon seems to stumble on his own feet sometimes when he feels like he's unbalanced or unsteady. He noticed how Taehyung had a smile in the shape of a box but he had this eerie face that he'll pull in order to get what he wants. (A/N: Tata mic face, anyone?)
He noticed Jins crush on you long before Jin did, probably, and long before you will, probably. But he also noticed that those feelings weren't entirely unrequited, they just needed some time and space to blossom and bloom/
Ew, who was he comparing romance to flowers like some cheesy poetry novelist?
Leaning his head on the carriage door, he closed his eyes again, hoping to drift off into a peaceful rest.
