Chapter 26 Surprises
I woke up to the honking of cars outside my apartment window. Ugh. I threw my blankets off of me and walked to the living room. The window was open. I thought I closed that.
Then I remembered who was staying here.
"Good morning." I turned around at his voice. "Oh my god, Max! I already told you to stop that a million times already!" I said.
He smiled. "I know."
I looked at my phone that was charging by the T.V. Three missed calls from Natalie were on it.
I groaned. The time was 8:20.
Crap. I saw Max was clearly showered. He probably used it before I woke up. I ran inside the shower myself.
~
Max and I were in such a happy mood on the way to work. Probably because of... You know what.
Oh I can't stop thinking about! That kiss was amazing! I just wonder if it meant something, like a real relationship I never had?
Max and I walked through the hallways of the offices. I was hoping no one would ask about last night.
We entered the main room, and of course, as if on cue, everyone was huddled in it. Yup.
Adam walked up to me. He asked me, "Hey, can I talk to you for like a second?" "Sure."
I walked into his office with an uneasy feeling in my stomach. What if he asks about last night? That would be so awkward.
I stood by the doorway. "So what's up?" I asked.
"Melody, I know you have been in a depression state for almost a month, and you have been finding solutions that may not be healthy socially." Adam said. I stared at him.
Okay, one, I know he's talking about me liking Max, and two, did he just say, 'finding solutions that may not be healthy socially'?
Am I talking to Adam or someone else?
I gulped. Don't say anything else. And of course, he did.
"So, me and the guys have something that might cheer you up." he said. A puppy! "And it's not a puppy or something." Damnit.
He walked out of the office and I followed him. The guys were standing there, staring at me. Oh no. Barney came up to me and led me to a spot facing the hallway.
I looked at everyone suspiciously. Max came down the hallway, smiling. My heart was beating. He walked towards me. My heart started beating faster. I looked at my chest. Anxiety, stop it!
Max suddenly stepped to the side, revealing the hallway. I looked up. My heart stopped. My stomach stopped churning. My hands stopped shaking. Oh my god.
There he was, walking down the hallway, with a couple small bruises, a walk-on cast on his right leg, and a smile plastered on his face.
Tears fell down my face. He walked up to me. "Hey, Warrior." I smiled.
"Red!"
I pulled him towards me and hugged him. He laughed and put his arm around me. I let go of him. He looked at me with a smile.
"What? How!" I said still smiling then looked behind me.
The guys had their phone's out recording and taking pictures. Adam of course had his vlog camera out and was giving me a thumbs up.
A tear of joy fell down my face. "All of you knew he was getting out of the hospital?" I asked. They all nodded.
I looked back at Red. "How did you get out of the hospital?" I asked.
"The doctors said my leg miraculously healed and I was in well condition. They said it was a miracle that I lived through something so horrible." he said. Then he smiled.
"Then, I told them I have a guardian angel back at home."
I smiled and gave him another hug. Our reunion was so nice and happy, but not as wonderful as Jason's and Adam's reunion that one time.
~
Adam took us all out for dinner to celebrate Red's coming back. It was at Red Robin's, luckily NOT a sushi place. After all I was really into a burger.
We were eating when I spoke. "So Red, what's your really name?"
He looked at me. "What?"
"I asked what's your real name? I know we all call you Red and all and the viewers know you as that, but surely your mom didn't wake up one morning and think, 'I'll name my baby Red.'" I said.
He put down his burger. "Um, you know it."
I nodded. "I know." Max looked at me.
"You know it?" he said.
I giggled. "Yeah, me and Red are like siblings. He's knows everything about me and I know everything about him."
Red smiled. "Yup. My real name is Steves. Michael Steves." He said this as he stirred his drink around like a martini. Adam and I laughed.
Max rolled his eyes. "Okay, calm it down, James Bond."
~
After dinner, we walked over to a bar next door. Before we started drinking, I called Natalie. I never returned her call ever since last night.
"Hello?" she answered.
"Hey, Natalie!"
"Oh my god! Melody! We haven't talked in the longest time."
"I know. I have tons of stuff to tell you."
"I know. Sorry I didn't answer to your text that one day. I was busy in classes."
"Speaking of classes, how's college going?"
"Hard as hell. Who knew music school was so hard? Everyone thought it was just singing and making music and playing music, but there's still education. Like we have all the other subjects too. But we don't focus on those as much as we do on music. You know."
"Yeah."
"Anyways, how's it going with you and Max?"
"Well, he slept over one night because Tim kicked him out because of a girl-"
"Tim got a girl?"
"I know right? Anyways, we played truth or dare and we shared some personal stuff."
"Mmhm."
"And then we had the same pajamas."
"Oh my god get to the point!"
"Well, I jumped him because of our pajamas and we had a moment."
"Ooooo what happened?"
"Um... We... We...."
"SPIT IT OUT WOMAN!"
"We kissed."
"What kind of kiss are we talking about? Like friend kiss or that kiss on the Ferris wheel?"
"Better than the Ferris wheel."
"Oh this is getting serious. Did he like it?"
"Um, I'm guessing. We told each other we loved each other."
"OH MY GOD!"
"Yeah I know.... Wait a minute, isn't Ross over by you?"
"Uhhhhh. Shhh..."
"What happened? Anything?"
"Well, since you don't get straight to the point, I will."
"And?"
"We went to a pizza place and we talked. Then we went to a park by my college and.... We just laid there on the grass and stared at the stars. It was romantic.... Until he got nervous. He stood up and walked away."
"Aww, poor Ross. What happened between you too?"
"We talk but not about what happened."
"Where is he right now?"
"He saw some friends of his so their out right now."
"You talk to him. Your relationship shouldn't change over something."
"Same with yours. Talk to Max. He's a good guy."
"...."
"I gotta go. Good luck Sis."
"Same to you. Bye."
"Bye."
I hung up. "I really should talk to him."
I walked to the bar and opened the door, not noticing Max standing right there.
