The Wedding
Melody walked down the isle in a lightly dusted pink dress with a plastered smile on her face. Her father holding her hand in his walked next to her. Her face was fixed on Dominic as he stood awaiting her arrival. She could see the disgust on his face as he stood there next to his friend Hayden. She sincerely smiled with Hayden hoping to put him at ease. She knew he was fully aware of the facade they both upheld so felt comfortable enough to show him her appreciation he even came.
Her mom was at the front smiling with her. If she only knew the truth. She remembered her conversation with her mom a few weeks ago and frowned just a little.
"Mom I'm getting married."
"That's wonderful dear.," she squealed in delight, "when did Dominic ask you and how? Tell me everything."
She could hear her mom talking to her Dad as she tried to explain the details.
"Mom, its a small wedding and Dom is paying for everything."
"I always knew he would do the right thing," her mom said.
She felt like she was cheating her mom of a son and started crying on the phone. Her mom took it differently and trued consoling her as best she could.
"I'll call you later with more info," and hung up before the truth was blurted out. She couldn't lie to her parents much less her mom.
She refocused on Dominic standing with his foul mood in front of her. Maybe he would change after they say "I do" but she knew that wasn't a hope to wait for.
The vows were said and the few friends and family who witnessed their debacle danced, laughed, and had their fun. Now it was time to say good bye and start a lifetime of lies.
Melody closed her eyes as the car drove off with Dominic at its wheel. She felt the cold ring on her finger and immediately her fears came rushing to the surface.
"Why are you crying Melody?"
She wasn't even aware that the tears were flowing from her eyes.
"Dom, Dominic this was a mistake. I know it's too late now but....." She couldn't finish the sentence as Dominic words shattered her thoughts.
"Its done Melody. We are man and wife. I expect you to do the right thing at all times. I won't take any excuses for any idiotic behaviour. Understood?"
His words were said in a quiet ease and she knew something was definitely wrong.
"Yes Dominic. I understand," and sank deeper into the seat sending loving thoughts to her little bundle. Maybe Dominic would love the baby. Maybe Dominic would love her.
