Chapter 9

Moonbeam's POV

I was walking through the forest. I was following something but I didn't know what. I heard water rushing nearby and owls were hooting. I could hear branches and twigs rustling in the wind and I could only see a few feet in front of me. Then, all of a sudden I heard a twig snap right beside me and I started to run. I shifted into my wolf and ran as fast as I could. I knew I was being followed but I didn't know who was following me or why. I saw a shadow of someone running on my right but I couldn't see who it was. Another shadow showed up on my left. I ran faster and harder until I came to a clearing. I looked around and heard a voice call me, but before I could turn around, everything became nothing.

I sat up quickly and looked around. A shadow seemed to pass by my window but I wrote it off as my imagination. I looked down beside me to see Liam still asleep. I slowly moved to edge of the bed before getting off the bed. The wooden floor boards creeped underneath my weight and I cringed. I tiptoed out of the room as quietly as possible. I closed the door behind me softly and made my way to the kitchen downstairs. I heard a noise from downstairs, like boots hitting the wooden floors. It creeped me out to no end and I slowly made my way towards the steps. The sounds became but a distant memory however, when I heard noises coming from my mate's room.

I was worried that he was hurt and needed help so I moved to the door. I opened the door slowly and peeked inside to see if he was alright, but I found that he was more than alright. In fact, he was probably feeling great since he was mating with someone else.

The sounds of them mating and my mate enjoying it just broke my heart into peices. Tears began to fall steadily down my cheeks and I tried to hold in the sobs that were fighting to get out. The female must have heard me because she looked over at me and smiled evilly. She even made everything a bit louder just to rub it in my face. I shook my head and slammed the door closed, not caring if I woke anyone up.

I couldn't believe that my mate was cheating on me. My heart was breaking and my wolf was howling in pain. I couldn't take it. So I ran to my room, jumped in the bed, and cuddled Liam closer to me while I cried. Liam stirred and looked up at me groggily.

"Beam? What's wrong?" He looked and sounded extremely worried but I just gave him a watery chuckle.

"You were right Liam. Alpha Dayton is a very mean person." He nodded his head and hugged me tightly. He squeezed me with everything he had.

"It'll be okay, Beam. You still have me and I love you so everything has to be okay." I smiled at him and kissed his forehead. I didn't say anything to him but I had this feeling that this was only the beginning of it all.

"All I need right now is you Liam. Just you and me buddy." He nodded and cuddled up to me. I hugged him tight and fell back to sleep.

"Beam? Oh Beeeeammmm. Wake up! it's time for breakfast!!!" I opened my eyes to see Liam jumping on the bed. I laughed and shook my head.

"Liam, stop jumping on the bed."

"Then get up! I'm hungry and I don't want to miss breakfast!!" He yelled as he kept jumping.

"Okay. Okay. Hold on. Let me get dressed and we can go to the dining hall." I got up and threw on some skinny jeans, a shirt, and a beanie.

Once Liam saw that I was done getting dressed, he grabbed my hand and dragged me down the halls. I laughed and tried to keep up with him. I got that uneasy feeling again whenever I looked at Liam but I wrote it off as me being paranoid from that dream.

Once we got to the dining hall, I saw Dayton sitting at the Alpha, Beta, and Delta table and pulled Liam back. He tried pulling me to their table again but I stood still.

"Liam, remember what I told you last night about Alpha Dayton?" He looked at me confused for a second before realization dawned on him and he nodded.

"Well, I think it would be better to sit somewhere else. So, pick anywhere else to sit on this side of the room. How about where all the other kids are?" He looked unsure but when he saw my pleading look he looked at the table again.

"Okay Beam, but only because I love you!" I laughed. I picked him up and gave him a kiss on the cheek. I got a weird sensation on my lips from kissing his cheek. It felt like my lips were burning but I just wrote it off as our body temperatures clashing. His cheeks turned a bright, rosy red.

"Thanks, buddy. After this, I promise to take you to the park and the toy store." He beamed at that and laughed childishly.

"Okay! Let's go sit down now." He continued to pull me to the table where all the kids were sat.

Once we sat down, all the kids stopped talking and stared at us. Well, stared at Liam mostly. They stared at him as if he was the creepiest person in the world and it seemed like they wanted to be as far away from him as possible.

"Is it all right if we sit here?" I asked. They all looked at Liam in disdain which brought tears to his eyes. I wanted to cry at the look on his face.

"You can but he can't." I looked at the boy and shook my head. He seemed about 11 years old.

"Why?"

"Because he doesn't have parents, he is weird and creep, and he has creepy powers." A little girl with pigtails in her hair said.

"It's not nice to outcast someone because they're different. Let's go Liam. We will sit outside." I took his hand and left the table. Once we had gotten out food, we went outside and sat down inside the forest in a clearing we found.

"You know, I have powers too." I said after the silence started to bother me. He looked up at me surprised.

"You do?!" I nodded and showed him all of my powers.

"I can light things on fire, control any natural element with my mind, find people's mates, search people's minds and create another dimension to go into."

"Wow! That's so cool! I can control water, air and fire. I can tell if a person is lying or not and I can turn anything invisible." Liam said.

"If I show you my powers, will you show me yours?" He nodded vigorously.

I sent us to my dimension where there are no people or wolves just nature. We sat by a waterfall and I bent the water so that the waterfall was actually falling up not down. I made the ground beneath us break apart and lift us into the sky so that we could see everything below us. I lit the sky in front of us on fire and surrounded us with the fire. I put out the fire by making the air around the fire disappear. I showed him mental images of people's mates and searched his mind for what he was thinking about. (He was thinking about pizza.)

"Your turn!" I said.

He made the water twist into the air and then twisted it around fire. Then he turned the whole dimension invisible and told me if I was lying or not. (I said that I don't know if I'll ever trust my mate again and he said I was telling the truth.)

I was about to ask him when he got his powers when I felt a pressure in my head. It felt like someone was crushing my skull.

I fell to the ground and put my hands on each side of my head. I didn't understand what was happening. I looked up for Liam and screamed out of worry when I saw him changing.

His eyes lost the sparkle in them and became less childish. They morphed into hollow, lifeless eyes that I didn't recognize. His golden brown hair grew out in seconds and turned darker and darker until it became black and stringy. His fingers lost their childish chubbiness and became thinner and longer with sharp nails at the end of each bony finger. His little childish smile turned into something more sinister and evil. He grew from 4 feet to around 6 1/2 feet tall. His clothes ripped away to show a black t-shirt, black jeans, and studded black boots. He went from a sweet, little 4-year old to a sinister and evil looking 30 year old.

"Are you okay, Beam?" He smirked and laughed evilly. I couldn't do anything though because the pain was increasing by the minute. He held up his hand towards me and squeezed his hand tighter and tighter, in turn making my pain worse and worse.

"You know, I thought it would be a lot harder to gain your petty trust but it seems that you can't resist a small, doe-eyed child, or anyone with doe-eyes for that matter. Kind of like your precious 'mate'. You didn't actually think he was your mate did you? Didn't you wonder how you could resist him so easily? Or why there weren't any sparks when you two touched? Or how about when he looked uninterested when you didn't sit with him today? You want to know the answer to all those questions?" His dry, chapped lips pulled back in a sinister smile to show off his yellow, rotting teeth as he looked down at my convulsing body.

"It's because he's. Not. Your. Mate. We were just using him to make you stay long enough for me to get close to you and get you to trust me. Then all I needed to do was get you alone and bada-bing bada-boom, I take you away. It was so easy to complete this mission that I almost wish you had put up more of a fight. I expected more from the girl in the prophecy but was disappointed when I actually got you. Now that I have you..." He kneeled down close to my ear and whispered,"...I'm going to make your death slow and painful." He laughed and laughed. Everything about his laugh seemed wrong though. It sounded as if he had just smoked two packs of cigarettes and was choking on nails right after he smoked. It made shivers run up and down my already goose-bump filled spine.

The pressure in my head eventually spread to my ears. I felt something sticky start to drip from my ears to my cheeks and I could smell that it was my blood. I couldn't hear anything anymore, but I felt everything.

I felt betrayal strong in my heart from the knowledge that the pack that just accepted me, didn't actually accept me, they sold me off to my death. I felt the pain of my skull being crushed and my heart being stepped all over. I felt the sadness of coming to the realization that my mate isn't actually my mate. I felt....angry at myself for trusting these strangers so quickly. But I couldn't do anything about it at the moment, not when I was on the forest floor writhing in pain and sorrow. My wolf was once again howling in pain and sadness.

The pain spread from my head, ears and body, to my eyes and mouth. The pain was becoming too much. Everything was just becoming one big blur and slowly, it all just faded away. The last thing that I saw was the man standing above me, smirking his face off.

All I thought before I fell into unconsciousness from the immense pain was.....'I will get revenge.'
