Chapter 6
Moonbeam's POV
Everything seemed to happen in the blink of an eye. It all happened so fast.
After the Alpha's son asked that question, the Beta and Delta both used their werewolf speed to grab my arms and they pinned me to the nearest wall.
"What trickery is this?! Are you foolish enough to poison our future Alpha and make him believe that you are his mate?!" The Beta growled.
My wolf surfaced then. She didn't like all the disrespect these two were showing her. I was left in the backseat of my mind, watching and listening to what my wolf was doing.
The Alpha and his son started moving towards us but soon stopped after the Delta spoke.
"With all do respect Alpha Derrick and Alpha Dayton, if you move any closer, we will snap this rouge's neck."
Gleam laughed at that which made everyone in the room turn to look at me. She still avoided my mate's eyes but looked straight into everyone else's.
"Why are you laughing rouge?! I could snap your neck right now and you find that amusing?" The Beta growled. My mate growled at his words but didn't move. My head shook slowly, almost mockingly.
"Silly pup. You do not understand. Not only am I not an actual rouge, but my pack is more powerful than yours. I am more powerful than any pack, alone." My wolf laughed at their stupidity.
"Who are you, rouge?!" The Delta asked. Stupid men.
"My human is Moonbeam Jackson, daughter of Leonel and Icy Jackson. Second Beta of the Black Blood pack. Possessor of powers given by the Moon Goddess herself. You, pup, have messed with the wrong she-wolf." My wolf sneered at the end.
With that, she locked her icy gaze on theirs and used one of the few powers I have managed to master. She searched within their minds and looked for their deepest, darkest fear and made them believe that their worst nightmares have come true. In reality, nothing is actually happening. In their minds, they are trapped inside a room with no doors, no windows, no way to escape.
We entered the Beta's mind first and leaned against the wall. He looked from side to side, panicking and looking for a way out.
"What have you done? Where are we?!" The Beta asked.
"Where are we? We are simply inside your own mind, your own lies, your own fears." And then she made his worst nightmare appear.
"No, no, NO! PATINA! MATT! NO!" He ran to the images of his bloodied, deceased wife and son.
"Your worst fear is not the dark. It is not the monsters under your bed. Your worst fear is...you. You are afraid that because you worry so much about the pack, because you are the Beta, that you will neglect your own family. You fear that in your absence, within the time that you spend protecting your pack, you will fail to protect what is most important to you. Not only will you fail, but it will almost be like you killed them yourself." She made an image of their blood appear on his hands, face, and clothes.
He looked down at his hands and shook his head vigorously. He cried while he looked at the blood spilt on his hands. He fell to his knees and sobbed while she circled the whole thing slowly.
"You did it.....you didn't appreciate them....you neglected them.....you forgot about them and in turn they died.....now, they're gone.....all because of you. " She made her whispers bounce off of all the walls over and over again.
"No. I loved them. I still do. I didn't mean it Patina. I didn't mean it. I'm sorry Matt. I didn't mean it. I love you guys." He whispered into his hands.
I figured he had had enough and I told Gleam to stop. She agreed and brought him out of his mind and back into the present. My body was only being held up by the Delta now because the Beta was on his knees crying still.
"Do not waste your time on me, Beta. Go now before it is too late. The one thing that you may never get back, and always regret not cherishing, is the love that your family gives. Believe me, my human and I know." She said in a soft voice.
The Beta looked up at me slowly. He stood up and bowed his head. The three other men looked surprised at his sudden change of heart.
"Thank you. You have made me realize that they are more important to me than anyone, or anything else in this world." He bowed again and then left the room.
"I don't know what you have done to him but I will not turn my back on this so easily." The Delta said.
She sighed and shook her head at his foolishness.
"I was hoping you would have been smart enough to back off but I will have to show you the light also." With that, we traveled into his mind.
She circled him slowly, like a lion circling its prey. He never turned his back to us, not once. A soft chuckle escaped her mouth slowly.
"Your fear is not unusual. You don't tell anyone your fear because you believe you have none but everyone has a fear. Everyone has a weakness. Yours? Yours is that your mate won't accept you. That you'll never be able to find out what love feels like. That you'll never get to teach your child to play a sport because you won't be able to have a child. Your fear is that you don't have a mate."
With that, she created an image of his mate. We knew what his mate looked like because that is another power I discovered.
The image of his mate walked up to him and his eyes softened instantly. He grabbed her and pulled her to his chest. He buried his face into her dark brown hair but she pushed him away.
"Nick, I don't want you. I don't want a mate because I've already fallen in love with someone else. I don't need you nor do I want you. Leave Nick, I don't ever want to see you again." The girl walked away and disappeared into thin air.
He tried to follow her. He tried to grab her before she disappeared but all he grabbed was thin air. He clawed at his chest as his heart broke, fell to the ground, and cried. Cried for the love that he had never experienced but lost all the same. Cried for the future that he will never have.
Gleam gave me control again and I walked over to him. I made him stand up and then brought us back into reality.
"That was only your fear. It was not real. It could happen only if you wait too long. I understand that you don't think you are ready to find your mate but if you always tell yourself you aren't ready, then your mate will find someone who is ready. Find her. The image you saw was your actual mate. She is the daughter of the Delta of the Shadow River Pack, the third strongest pack in the world. Go find your mate, now. Don't wait any longer."
He bowed and thanked me before leaving to find his mate.
I was left in the office with the two Alphas. I walked to the office door and closed it softly. I then walked to the seat I had been sitting in and got comfortable once again.
"Now, Alpha, since you now know who I am and where I am from, I believe all that is left are my intentions on running away. Am I correct?" I didn't turn around to look at them. I simply waited until they both cleared their throats. Alpha Derrick sat down behind his desk again and took a moment to gather his thoughts.
"Well, Miss Jackson, I believe you are correct. If you would continue." He urged as my mate sat in the chair next to me. I could feel his gaze boring into the side of my head.
"My intention of running away from my pack was to keep them safe...from me. I am a danger to their safety and as the second Beta, it is imperative that I eliminate any and all dangers to my pack, myself included." They understood what I meant by eliminate and my mate stood up to pace around the room.
"You can't 'eliminate' yourself! You are my mate! You are the future Luna of this pack! I just found you and now you tell me that you are trying to 'eliminate' yourself?! What kind of bullshit is that! I don't know you and I already love you. Are you really willing to give up your life, and your mate, just because you believe you are a danger to your pack?" Alpha Dayton asked. I could tell he was on the verge of tears and so was I.
There is another way, Moon.
'What is it Gleam. I will do anything to keep my pack safe and have my mate at the same time.'
All we must do is master our powers and train to defeat the great evil that we will have to face eventually. If we do that, we can have it both ways.
'What great evil?' I never got a reply from Gleam though.
"If I were to stay here, I have a few conditions that you must agree to carry out. Otherwise, I shall have to leave this world and cross over into the next sooner than I thought I would have to." I stated and Alpha Derrick sat back in his chair thinking about it.
"What the hell is there to think about?! She is my mate and this pack's future Luna!" Alpha Dayton said, angry that his father had to think about his decision.
"Let me hear these conditions and then I will decide wether or not I will agree to them." I nodded and ignored the growl that came from my mate.
"I wish for my location not be given away to anyone. I would like it to stay a secret until I know that I have completely mastered my powers. I would also like to be able to train with your pack. And last but not least, I would like to speak to my mate alone after we are done here." Alpha Derrick looked over at Alpha Dayton as did I and he nodded his head without any hesitation.
"Very well. Since your conditions do not put my pack in any danger, I will agree to your deal. It seems that you will be staying here then?" Alpha Derrick asked.
"It appears so, Alpha."
"Since that is settled, I will go gather the pack in the meeting room to inform them of our newest pack member. It will give you two some time to talk." I nodded and he walked out of the room.
"So, I have a few questions for you, Alpha Dayton and I'm not quite sure if I'll like the answers." I started as soon as the door closed.
Let the questioning begin.
