Chapter 25

Ryker's POV

After seeing her brother, on the ground covered in his own blood, dead and unmoving, Moon turned to Tyler. Her eyes were flashing from purple to red to black. She was furious.

"You! You did this!" He tried to get away but she still had him under the paralysis spell. She ran at him and lunged at his throat. When she lunged, she shifted into her wolf and began ripping at Tyler.

Everyone flinched and cringed as they listened to the sound of flesh tearing and his strangled screams mingled with her vicious growls. She threw his mangled up remains into a nearby tree and the sound of his neck breaking from the force of the hit signaled that he was dead.

Breathing heavily, Moon shifted and walked slowly over to Jake. She carefully lifted him into her arms, kissed his forehead and walked into the forest. No one stopped her, everyone was too afraid to even breath in her direction after what just happened.

I broke the silence soon after, which seemed to wake everyone out of their daze, "Listen up! As you just saw, we are more than cable of destroying all of you within a mere second so I suggest you either leave and never come back, or join the pack. Pack members and members of the coven, we need to move out. Our work here is done."

Pack members, coven members and rouges that wanted to join the pack followed closely behind me as I ran back to the Vampire Kingdom while the rogues that wanted to be left alone, ran in the other direction. There were a few rogues that wanted to create a third option, kill all of us, but they were obviously outnumbered and killed as soon as they lunged.

Once we got back, the people that stayed behind rushed out to meet their loved ones and cheered when they found each other once again. Fortunately, no one was mourning the loss of their loved one...no one except Moon and her family.

I walked into our bedroom and saw that she had laid Jake on our bed. A blanket was pulled up to his chin to hide the mess that was made of his lower body. The blood had been cleaned from his face and his eyes had been closed shut so as not to see the glassy look in them. His hair, once ruffled and filled with blood, dirt and twigs, was now clean and combed.

If I hadn't known better, I would have thought he was resting and maybe a bit sick because of how pale he was but that wasn't the case.

Moonbeam sat on the side of the bed, sobbing while she ran her fingers through his hair and talked to him as if he was still here.

"You know, I was so happy when I found out that I had a little brother. I had always wanted one and though our time together was brief, I couldn't have...wouldn't have asked for a better brother. You are so young little brother. You have yet to experience the world, experience life. You haven't found your mate yet but I'm sure she will be perfect. Your kids will be amazing, kind and understanding just like you. I love you. I love you so much that not having you with me would cause an ache in my heart that could never be filled. If I lost you right after I just got you...I don't know what I would do.

"So that's why you need to wake up Jake. You can't sleep forever. If you sleep forever, you'll miss out on all the big things that will happen in your life, my life, Eric's life, everyone's life. You have to wake up soon, okay? You have to wake up and give me your biggest, brightest smile. Then you have to look me in the eyes, with yours all shiny and bright, and tell me that you would never leave me, never leave this family, this coven or this pack.

"Don't you see? Everyone needs you. Mom, Dad, Eric, me, the pack, the coven, we all need you. So wake up little brother. It's time to wake up and when you wake up, you'll live your life to the fullest. I promise that when you wake up-when you wake up-when you wake up....." Her sobs became overwhelming and she couldn't speak through her tears.

I sat down behind her and pulled her into my chest. She turned and buried her face in my neck. I stroked her hair and whispered sweet nothings hoping that she would stop crying, stop hurting but I knew that wasn't possible.

"He-he will wake u-up! I know i-i-it. He ha-has to wake up-p. I c-can't lose him-m-m. Tell me that he w-ill wake up."

I looked down at her and saw that her eyes were blue. Not a shining, magnificent blue that would make anyone stop and stare when they saw, but a horrible, gut wrenchingly sad blue. The kind of blue that can make you feel like everything has gone wrong just by looking at it. The kind of blue that's on a baby blanket. The shade of blue that you imagine inspired the name for the music genre 'the Blues'.

"I can't." I whispered, my heart breaking as she sobbed harder.

"You ca-can't what?" She asked me and I closed my eyes, inhaling deeply at what I was about to say.

"I can't tell you that he will wake up because we both know he won't. He won't ever wake up here on earth, with us, ever again." She screamed and sobbed as I told her this. I rocked her back and forth until she calmed down some before saying,

"If he does wake up, he will wake up in Heaven, amongst the angels and clouds. He won't ever be physically here again but he will be here, in your heart and mind. I know it hurts to face the truth but the sooner you do, the sooner you can let go of the pain and sadness and move on to celebrating his life. He was just a kid but he gave his life for his pack and for his coven. Remember him for how he was during life, a wonderful, kind, full of life, intelligent and caring kid, instead of remembering him for how he was in death."

"But he'll never meet his mate, never have kids. He will never know what it is to love or to fall in love. He won't be able to go outside and run through the rain or bathe in the sun's rays or even admire the landscape as the sun rises or falls. He will never know how much he truly meant. How can I ever get passed this? How will I ever stop hurting?" She grabbed my shirt into her hands and clutched it tight, trying to grasp onto reality while surrounded by all her sorrows.

"I can't promise you that it won't hurt because it will but in time, you'll learn to live with the pain and numb it. What Tyler did was unforgivable and led to this tragedy. He had your love, but he took advantage of it and filled your head with lies. However, a lesson can be learned here. Life is full of love and it is full of lies. However, you must learn to live with both in order to be able to differentiate between the two. Then, and only then, can you fill your life and surround yourself with love while also tossing away and exiling all the lies that come your way. We will get through this, together and we will learn to do exactly as I just said, live with love and not in lies."
