Astoria

I wake up to some very intense rapping on my door. My alarm still hasn't rung. I check the time. Still 11 minutes to 6:00 anyway. I rub my eyes and get out of bed. I unlock my door and see Will.

"What are you doing here at a time like this bro?" I say, yawning.

"I felt like disturbing you so I did" He smirks.

"Really?" I put my serious face on. You have been warned.

"Hahaa. No. I need you car if you don't mind. Mine's engine died"

"Yeah I can walk today it's fine."

"Sure sis?"

"No problem. You have fun"

"Bu-Bye"

"Bye"

I shut the door behind me and slump onto the bed. I get up again and go to brush my teeth. I shower and pick out my clothes for today-

Let's go with a casual look today. Maybe do something with my hair?

That looks good. I don't know why people think girls take so much time to get dressed. It never takes me long. I have to say my new converses are very comfortable. I get downstairs and message Callie to pick me up. Can't walk in the heat anyway. Mum brings me my breakfast - hot cross buns with butter and jam...yum. Callie arrives and i hand her a bun.

"These are delicious, Mrs. Smith" Callie tells my mum, taking a bite.

"Thanks hon" she smiles and waves.

We wave goodbye and get in the car. Callie turns the ignition on and we are off. We start chatting about random things, and i remind her to give the form to Miss Welleson. We catch up with the rest of the kids.

"I can't wait to go shopping today" May squeals. Her enthusiasm is contagious.

"Me too!" Scarlet squeals.

"I know, yeah, but we have to get through today don't we?" Callie says. She reminded me of something. I whip out my phone and message Raymond.

Me: Is it ok if I leave at 3:30 today? Have to go on a shopping trip😅 I can cancel plans if you need me

May peers over my shoulder, looking at my screen.

"Raymond, huh? Who's he?" She smirks.

"Do not go there" Callie warns.

"Raymond is a guy who works at the café with me, his mum owns the place" I explain.

"Is he hot?" She asks.

"How would I know? I never look at him like that" I say.

"Oh yeah, right" May says.

"Don't be sarcastic, I'm serious" I say.

"She's gonna die lonely, I'm telling ya...." She trails of, mumbling to Scarlet.

"When will she ever learn?" I ask Callie.

"Maybe never" She laughs, making me laugh.

"Girls over there, get to class now!" Someone barks from behind us. Without turning, we sprint our way to the classroom before whoever that was catches up with us. Phew.

Me and Call always have English together. It's my favourite class because of that reason. Classes with your bff beside you is something different all the time. (Who agrees? Write in the comments) Miss Peterson, also known as the youngest teacher in all of Hillingdon High, walks in, carrying a lot of books.

"Ok, class, I have some exciting information for you!" She says. "I'm not supposed to tell you as of yet. I know you have a lot of events lined up, what with the prom, cross country, the annual sports league, and even Model UN...but I have to I'm so excited!"

Okayyyy.....

"So something you and i, both of us haven't done. I'm inexperienced with high school plays anyway...but you've done them since you were little...." Where is this going? Callie and I exchange looks of worry.

"Your principal agrees with me when I say I think it's best if you guys plan and manage the play this year, no I'm not getting you stressed or anything, I know the play is always end of term, just before your finals, a month before, actually...." Yes, she rambles. Endlessly.

"So I'm willing to let you decide anyway. It's all upto you, plan it amongst yourselves and get back to me after a week" Oh shit. Callie taps her fingers on the table beside me, clicking her tongue.

"So we will continue with The Tempest, turn to page 364 (hint hint) and Fred, start with the first dialogue please. Stand up and read."
This is going to be a long, long, class.

Once the class is over, collective groaning in the corridor begins.

"Why? Just why?"

"I know right?"

"You bet. I hate this already" We'd heard about enough of all this already. Why do all these events have to take place? Also, which idiot gave her permission to teach us? She barely even looks a day older than 20. Why???

After yet another boring pre calc class, it's break time. We sit at our table, complaining about the atrocities committed on us by these teachers and these shitty school events. It's a very crowded table, even though it's just us here.

"I mean, Model UN, who cares about that anyway?" Leo said. Maybe he should have scanned the faces around the table before speaking, because just then -

"I do, Leo. It's a privilege to be a part of Model UN" Scarlet says, clearly offended. I guess Ethan realises that his sister is gonna burst, so he calms her down, before Leo's skull is detached from the rest of his body.

"He's just expressing his opinion....no need to get hot about that" Ethan tells her.

"And what about the topic for that dastardly school play?" Adam questions.

"I dunno. Before anyone takes a vote, I just need to say that -" i start.

"No Romeo & Juliet, we know, we know!" Callie, Adam, May, Leo and Luke yell. Ah, they do know me well.

"Why though...it's a Shakespeare classic" Scarlet interjects.

"I'm afraid it's a tragedy though" - Ethan says - "But why can't we do tragedy?"

"Because Astoria cannot handle love, apparently" May says. I roll my eyes.

"What do you mean?" Ethan asks.

"It's my opinion, so feel free not to agree with me, but I think love is just baseless and life draining. Like, take Romeo and Juliet for example. They were so madly in love, they failed to understand how the other feels and in the end, their love got them nowhere. "

"I suppose" Ethan says.

"Also, did you guys know, Romeo and Juliet was actually a 3 day relationship between a 13 year old Juliet and a 17 year old Romeo?" Camilla says.

"Thank you for that, dear encyclopedia." Luke says. Camilla punches him on the arm and we laugh.

"Ethan, me and the other girls who've signed up for cross country are going shopping after school. You don't mind going by yourself do you?" Scarlet says.

"Not at all. You guys have fun" He says. Is it natural for me to think he is really caring?

"I think the most excited from all of us is Scarlet, at the prospect of shopping" Callie says.

"I noticed that" May agrees, nodding. I laugh.

"I just like doing it. Reminds me of James" Scarlet says, brushing hair out of her face.

"Who's James?" May asks. So nosey.

"My boyfriend. He's still studying at my old school, and we're doing long - distance. We text and video call, but it's not the same" She looks wistful.

"Aaww, Scarlet, you miss him!" I say, putting my hand around her.

"Awfully. He was very understanding and helpful" She says. I still nod, feeling the urge to have someone who would be understanding towards me too, but then I brush the thought away, and it is gone as fast as it had come.

"I'm just gonna go to the bathroom, you guys continue" Adam excuses himself and leaves.

"Hey, what if we tried doing A Midsummer Night's Dream, you know for the play?" Luke says.

"Luke, is this a joke? Because you clearly know the characters, a queen, a king, a small pixie, some drunk men, and a donkey. Where do you think we will find a student to be the donkey? Also it's such an odd play. A lot of lovelorn idiots I tell you." I say. Luke laughs and  i aim an empty soda can at him and he ducks.

"He is such an idiot sometimes" Leo mutters.

"Camilla, what do you think? What could the play be on?" Callie asks her.

"Oh, I'm outta ideas" She says.

"Hamlet?" Luke says. Ethan lets out a snort.

"What is it with you and Shakespeare? Can you not find another play by another playwright?" May yells at him.

"I doubt if he's even read Hamlet" I say, sniggering. Just then, Adam comes back, clutching his stomach and laughing his head off.

"What is it?" Callie asks him eagerly.

"You- you guys have to- oh my god- he's seriously-i just came- noses......" He continues laughing, pointing towards the bathroom.

We all go towards the bathroom. We peek inside and Nick and the other footballers are there, wearing clothespins on their noses and washing what seems to be uniforms of the basket ball team. Oh yeah! Sweet revenge.

We burst out laughing at the sight in front of us. I whip out my phone and take a picture of them. I'm going to keep that as a memory.

"Hey!" Nick yells at us and we run out, still laughing.

"That.....was - so - funny" Callie says between laughs.

"Can you believe it was either this or I become his girlfriend?" I say.

"I'm sure being his girlfriend would have been way funnier. He'd be a live clown anytime you want" May jokes.

"Oh no no. That would be a nightmare for me" I say. I dread to think if that was the case.

"You mean a daydream?" Scarlet jokes, still laughing.

"If daydreams were worse then yes" Leo says.

Soon school is over and the shopping spree is on. After trying a hundred sports outfits each of us decide on 3 each😅. I go to café then but Raymond says it's fine and i could go home. So I leave and Hillary is over for dinner. A long dinner and chatting later, I decide to go to bed. Laying my head on the pillow, I'm almost asleep when-

Leo: Nick🤣

Callie: IKR!

Scarlet: 😂

Ethan: I will always remeber his face!

Luke: 😆 Me 2 bro

How come everyone is online all of a sudden? Ever since this friends group was created, I can't sleep because I'm bombarded with messages. But I wanna reply. Cannot miss out on all the fun.

Me: That's what he gets for asking me to be his girlfriend 🤣

Ethan: If that's the case, I wonder what would happen to the other boys who ask you out😅

Callie: They don't😂

Leo: Making a big mistake. She's great at crushing hopes😁

May:😆😆

Me: Let's go to sleep...we have a long day ahead..at least I hv.

Scarlet: Beauty sleep, huh?

Me: Nah...just sleepy

Callie: Gnight then guys

Me: Night Calls.

Scarlet: Goodnight

Ethan: Night.

Luke : Nighty nighty.

May: Shut up, you aren't a baby anymore

May: Goodnight, sleep tight.

Leo: Because bed bugs will bite.

Camilla: Enough already. Gnight.

As everyone goes offline, I put my phone under my pillow and go to sleep.
