Chapter Twenty-Three
A week later.
Cassie, dressed in blue dungarees with white silk blouse underneath it and white trainers, walked into Golden Homes carrying two vases of Hyacinth flowers in both hands.
Although her life was not okay, she couldn't allow herself to wallow in self-pity. What good would it do her anyway?
She and Ella had gone back to plead with Beatrice, but they didn't even get to see Beatrice because, they met Cassie's bags in front of the door. Beatrice was not home either.
With Ella's help, she moved her things to the pent house. Despite the fact that Cassie knew that Ella hated charity, she had invited her to live with her. And Ella, being Ella, said no.
William and Kaden had been elusive as well. They didn't call her, Cassie didn't call them either. And even though she had been delivering flowers to Kaden's office since five days ago,she had not seen him either, since she had been avoiding him.
The only good thing in her life right now was Mrs Lancaster, whom treated her to Lunch the two times she went to deliver blue girls.
As Kaden promised her, money was deposited into her account everyday and a driver had been assigned to her as well as a new car. And even though she told herself that she was better off without seeing him,she couldn't help but think about what he was up to lately.
Had he forgotten her so soon?
It's so weird that after what happened between them, even if she had asked him to leave her alone, he didn't even call her. It's so really weird and very unlike William too.
Maybe she was right about the bet thing, who knows.
Cassie propped one of the vases between the wall and her knee and at the same time reached for the elevator button. Luckily, a man holding the uptown daily newspaper got it for her. Cassie thanked him as she balanced the vases on her hips before following him into the elevator.
The doors slide close. She stole a quick look at her companion only to see the front page of the newspaper. She started to look away but did a double take when something caught her eyes. The headline alone was enough to send her over the edge.
How dare he?

Kaden sat behind his desk twirling the single fake rose his sister got for him seven days before she was attacked in the hospital. Grief enveloped his heart making it a little bit difficult to breathe.
Ever since the day the doctor announced that there was no assurance as to when Ansela would wake up,he had been in and out of the hospital, unable to concentrate on anything. He had Amelia cancel any of his appointments that had been scheduled. He didn't think he could even think straight as it is.
Even though the policemen searched the entire ward, there was no proof that his sister had been attacked, that is except the blood stains that took up half of the bed sheets. The CCTV didn't show anything about anyone attacking Ansela. In fact it seemed that someone wiped out the entire record for that day.
Arabella had confirmed that after Amelia left, she was the only one who talked to Ansela last. And the staff had confirmed that Amelia left the hospital grounds. And even though it was said that Ansela was not attacked,Kaden was sure that she was. It was clear that Ansela didn't leave her bed, and there was no sign of struggle which only made everything more confusing.
One didn't develop a gnash on the head mysteriously.
Kaden shuddered as he recalled Dr. Greene's words after he came out of surgery.
"Ansela could have died if her mother didn't come in on time. She had lost a lot of blood. Whatever caused the gnash was really strong and could have easily cracked her skull open. She would have died if that thing had hit her twice."
Kaden remembered shaking like a leaf on the spot. Ansela could have died.
As much as he wanted to regret not being there with Ansela,he couldn't. Despite his worried state,he still remembered his time with Cassie. Although it was brief,he enjoyed every moment they shared.
Amelia had told him about the flowers she brought and he deposited money into her account everyday. He already missed her and really wanted to see her,but he's not sure if she wants the same.
He heard the door open, but he didn't bother looking up,since it'll probably be Amelia popping in to tell her that she was going out for lunch or something.
"Go to lunch,Amelia." He waved her out,his gaze fixated on the fake rose resting in his palm.
"I'll go alright you jerk! But only after you explain this to me."
Kaden's head snapped up. Hazel eyes met flashing blue ones. Judging by the look on her face,he knew that he was in deep shit but didn't know how deep, that is,until she tossed the newspaper ,he hadn't noticed that she was holding, on the desk in front of him.
"Explain that!"
Kaden saw the headline and felt his blood freeze.
He was in deep shit.

Skylar burrowed deeply into the covers and cradled the big brown teddy bear that Albert bought for her as a sorry gift. And even though she wished to be anywhere but in Albert's house, she knew that the wish would only remain as what it is.
A wish.
Albert made it is job to make sure that she never got out or watched t.v. in fact,he made sure that she never left the room at all.
He had refused to take her to the hospital after beating the living daylight out of her. He was a twisted son- of- a -gun, and he scared her greatly, even though she'd die before admitting it to him.
Skylar wondered about how come no one has declared her missing just yet. She had been gone for two weeks and no one had declared her missing. What did Albert do? Write a will about her or claim that she jumped into the river?
She wished that she had stayed away from Albert when Kaden warned her to,she didn't listen and look where that got her.
Even so, Skylar marveled at how Albert knew that she broke off her engagement with Kaden.
The door flew open; Albert walked in with a smirk on his handsome face. His blue eyes regarded her in a cool way as he sat down on the bed.
"Darrling." He purred. He stroked her dark head. "How are you my love?"
"Fine."
"I've got great news baby." He pushed a stray lock away from her forehead. "We've got a new addition to our small family."
"Who?" Her surprise reflected in her voice.
"Meet Sarah. Sarah, Sky my baby." Albert gaze was fixed on the doorway.
Skylar followed his gaze. A little gasp escaped her lips. Standing in the door way and looking so sure of herself was someone Skylar was not, in a million years, expecting. And if not for the evil grin on Sarah's face, she would have doubted if the person was capable of any evil.
"Nice to meet you Skylar."
"Same here." She winced at her own lie.
"Told you she'd be surprised, didn't I?" Sarah asked Albert.
"Sky's never surprised, must be that she's tried." Albert frowned down at Skylar. "I thought you might want to know darling, your archenemy, Princess Ansela Mckade's currently in the hospital fighting for her dear life. All thanks to Sarah here."
Skylar wanted to yell and scream at them that she didn't hate Ansela that much, she didn't. Instead she said: "thank you."
Sarah smirked. "You can thank me later, when you marry Kaden."
"What?" She turned to stare at Albert who glared at Sarah.
"Sarah has an excellent plan and we all have to execute it. Starting with you."
"M-me?"
"Yes,darling." Sarah grin,widened.
"Why don't I like the sound of that?"
"You're not supposed to. But nevertheless you are getting to Kaden."
"If I don't want to?"
"You die!"
Skylar didn't doubt that for a minute.
