Chapter 7
Indhu's POV
I stare at her in shock. I never knew she had a brother. And i never knew that her brother is my husband. That makes my best friend my sister-in-law.
"Enti?" I ask, finally able to talk.
"What?" I ask, finally able to talk.
"Avunu. Surya naa annayya." she repeats.
"Yea. Surya is my older brother." she repeats.
I don't say anything.
"Annayya ninnu choosinappude ishtapaddadu. Naaku cheppinappudu, nenu nammaledu. Oka roju, nenu Lavanya, Naishika, Ishika tho unnappudu vachi ninnu premisthunadu ani cheppadu. Memu help chesthamu ani cheppamu. Vaadu naa annayya ani evariki theleedu. Okka neeku thapppa." she continues.
"He fell in love with you when he first saw you. When he told me, I didn't believe it. Then, one day, when I was with Lavanya, Naishika, and Ishika, he came and told us that he liked you. We said we would help him. No one knows that he is my older brother. Besides you." she continues.
"Ante..." I trail off.
"That means..." I trail off.
"Vaadu ninnu chaala premisthunnade. Nee mundu okarini preminchinappudu aa ammayi vadilesi vellindi. Inka evarini preminchanu ani anukunnadu. Kaani, ninnu choosaka, premalo paddadu. Tharuvatha, nuvvu ekkada chi kodthavo anesi pelli daaka vachadu. Ninnu hurt cheyyali ani vaadi intention kaadu. Ee roju vaadu anni marchipoyi, untha happyga undaniki karanam nuvve." she says.
"He loves you a lot. Before you, he had loved another girl, but she left him. From then on, he promised himself not to love anyone else. But, after he say you, he fell in love you you. After, he was scared that you would reject him, so he brought the matter till marriage. He does not intend to hurt you at all. You are the reason he forgot everything and is this happy today." she says.
"Marchipoya?" I ask, confused.
"Forgot?" I ask, confused.
"Repu ma amma nanna chanipyina roju."
"Tomorrow is our parents death anniversary."
And my smart reply to that was, "Oh..."
"Vaadu amma nannani champadam choosadu." she says after a while.
"He say our parents being murdered." she says after a while.
I look up at her, confused and shocked.
"Aa roju thvaraga intiki vachadu. Nenu officelo unninna. Nenu intiki vachi choose lopala, sevalu, madyalo vaadu." she says, crying.
"That day, he had come home early. I was at office. By the time I had come home, there were dead bodies on the ground, and he was in the middle." she says, crying.
I stand and walk over to her. Sitting next to her, I gently place my hand on her shoulder.
"Velli paduko." I say.
"Go sleep." I say.
"Indhu. naaku matta ivve. Vaadini vadalavu anesi maata ivvu." she begs me.
"Indhu. Promise me. Promise me that you will never leave him." she begs me.
I look down at her hand. Gently placing my hand palm down in hers, I say, "I promise. I will never leave him."
"Thank you. Thank you so much." she says, hugging me.
"Velli paduko." I repeat.
"Go sleep." I repeat.
She walks up the stairs.
After she leaves, I call the our driver to come pick me up.
He arrives, and i tell him to take me to where Surya is. He stops in front of a huge banglow that has yellow police tape put around it. I walk towards the entrance of the banglow, when a constable stops me.
"Mam, meeru lopalaki vellakudadu." he says.
"Mam, you can't go in." he says.
"I have to go in."
"Mam, allowed kaadu."
"Mam, its not allowed."
"Kesava." A man in civilian clothing says, coming up to us.
The constable salutes. "Sir."
"Emaindi?" the new man asks the constable.
"What happened?" the new man asks the constable.
"Sir, thinu..." the constable starts when the man turns to me.
"Sir, she..." the constable starts when the man turns to me.
"Rey, mam Surya sir wife ra." the man says.
"hey. mam is Surya sir's wife." the man says.
"Oh. Sorry sir. Sorry mam." he says to me. I just nod.
"Indhu. Ra." the man says to me.
"Indhu. Come." the man says to me.
"Uh, meeru...?"
"Uh, you are...?"
"Oh, sorry. I'm Dhruva." he introduces himself.
"Oh. I'm-" I start.
"Indhuja Reddy, now Indhuja Sivakumar." he interrupts.
"Yea. Meekella...?"
"Yea. How do you...?"
"Surya and I are best friends. We-"
"Rey, Dhruva. Evaritho matladuthunnavu ra?" I hear Surya's voice behind me.
"Hey Dhruva. Who are you talking to man?" I hear Surya's voice behind me.
I turn around.
"Indhu?" he says. He comes up to us.
"Nuvvu...ikkada..." he asks.
"You...here..." he asks.
"Raavalanipinchindi, vachanu. Velipomante, velthanu." I say.
"I felt like coming, so I came. If you want, I will go." I say.
"Ledu ledu. Undu." he stops me.
"No no. Stay." he stops me.
I shrug my shoulders and walk into the banglow.
Walking around, I see a body on the floor. Looking closely, I see a bullet wound, just above the heart, near the shoulder. I keep looking at it.
"Indhu?" Dhruva comes up to me.
I point to the corpse without saying anything.
"Oh, vaada. Bullet rendu chotla thagili chanipoyadu." he answers me.
"Oh, him. He had two bullet wounds and died." he answers me.
I keep looking. Slowly, I shake my head side to side.
"Ledu. Bullet wounds tho chavaledu." I say.
"No, he didn't die because of bullet wounds." I say.
Dhruva looks at me in confusion.
"Glovesu mask ivvu." I say.
"Hand me the gloves and mask." I say.
He does what I say. Pulling on the gloves and putting on the mask, I walk towards the corpse. I crunch down and sit on the balls of my feel in a squat position. Feeling around his ribs, I find that his ribs are in perfect condition. Moving a little higher, I feel a slight bump. I unbotton the shirt to get a better look. Feeling around again, I feel a swelling.
"He didn't die of the bullet wounds. He was suffocated." I say, standing up.
"Enti? Suffocationa?" Dhruva asks, dumbstruck.
"What? Suffacation?" Dhruva asks, dumbstruck.
I nod. Pulling off my gloves and mask, I walk over to him.
"Ee bodyni evaru choosaru?" I ask.
"Who checked this body?" I ask.
"Doctor Attili."
"Call him. I need to talk to him." I say. Dhruva nods, still confused, but walks away to do something.
I call over a constable.
"Meetha bodies ekkada unnayi?" I ask him.
"Where are the rest of the corpses?" I ask him.
"Akkada." he replies, pointing me to a direction.
"There." he replies, pointing me to a direction.
I thank him, and walk in that direction, grabbing another mask and a pair of gloves.
On my way there, I bump into Surya.
"Indhu, ekkadiki velthunnavu?" he asks me.
"Indhu, where are you going?" he asks me.
"Akkada oka body bullet wounds tho padundi." I say.
"There is a body with bullet wounds there." I say.
"Yea." he nods.
"Athanu bullets valla chanipoledu. Suffocation tho chanipoyadu."
"He didn't die because of bullet wounds. he died because of suffocation."
"Huh?" he looks at me, shocked. I just nod.
"Kaani, Doctor Atili bullets valla chanipoyadu ani cheppadu." he says.
"But, Doctor Atili said he had died of bullet wounds." he says.
I shake my head no.
"Maaku post mortem ela cheyyalo nerpincharu." I reply.
"We were taught post mortem." I reply.
I continue walking in the direction the constable had pointed to me. I hear Surya follow me silently. Walking into a room, I see six bodies laid out straight on the floor.
**1 hour later**
I get up, and walk up to Surya, taking my gloves off.
"Come." I say. he walks with me. Pointing to the first five, I tell him that they all died from suffocation.
"Then how about the last one?" he asks.
We walk to the last one. "She was raped." I say.
"That means..."
"Check for DNA and fingerprints." I say.
"Wow. Thank you." he says. "That idiot of a doctor. I will see to him."
I give him a mock smile, showing my teeth. Without another word, I walk out of the banglow. Calling the driver, I have him take me back to Mehreen's house.
I walk up the stairs, and into one of the rooms. I decide to take a nap. After all, I just saw a bunch of dead bodies.
