{🫀Art 39} Human Tutorial
A simple human tutorial!
Level: meant mostly for intermediate, could be used by beginners
First, a circle to start the head!
Then, add a jaw! I did a more basic oval-ish face, but you can adjust this line for other face shapes! Make sure it's not to large, it should only be about a third the size of the circle for an adult (kids/babies have completely different proportions, this tutorial shows an adult human)
Also begin a line for the spine!
Extend the line for the spine, about as long as two of the head (can be slightly longer, check a reference for a lankier person if you'd like) and cross it with a line for the shoulders, and then draw a set of oval shapes for the ribs, which should slope until they are just a little wider than the head!
Add a pelvis! (Which is a butterfly shape) the pelvis is same width as the rib shape from before! Add two circles for the hip joints.
Now let's make some legs!
Add lines about twice as long as the head going from the leg circles, add circles to represent the knee joints !
Draw lines going from the knees, these should be just a little shorter than the first set of lines. They should be shorter so you have space for the feet! (Forgive me, I'm not drawing out all features, just helping with proportions)
Add circles for shoulder joints! (The shoulders here are a little narrow, you are welcome to make them a little wider)
Draw lines just a little short than the ones you used for the legs going from the shoulders, and add circles for the elbow joints
Now to bulk up our person, add some muscle and flesh!! Draw from the ribs to the pelvis, you can dip in more at the torso if you want a slimmer person, or go out more for a bigger person (softer shapes for more flesh, more geometric for muscle, although I'd recommend trying a bunch of different body types!) and add flesh around the lines you drew for the legs, tapering in at joints and getting wider in the middle
Draw the rest of the legs, again tapering in at the joints at ending at the pelvis
Add some flesh at the neck, and at the shoulders! Shoulders should match how much mass the person has, and make sure to keep them soft and round, the shoulders are very curved! The neck should also curve towards the head, since the spine is curved not straight (it's an s shape, and should curve gently, so it actually helps to draw it by hand instead of using a ruler!)
Now bulk out the arms , tapering at the joints like you did with the legs (yeah I didn't draw the hands, sorry..)
(Note: the next two steps are how to add boobs, you can skip these if you are not drawing a person with boobs)
Bulk up the muscle around the chest and upper torso, keeping an eye on the ribs so you don't go to far from the proportions you've already done
Curve from the top of the torso along the chest, keeping roughly with the shape of the ribs, make sure you don't go much bigger out than the chest you already have and don't go more than about two third down the ribs at the largest (these are the largest proportions I would recommend, obviously you can go smaller!). Add some definition under and between the breasts, and some definition above. More details can be added depending on what your person is wearing!
Now remove the guide lines !
Let's map out some simple facial features while we're here :3
Eyes go halfway down the face!
Nose just below and between the eyes
Mouth halfway between the nose and chin
Eyebrows just above where your eyelashes would be, ears start at bottom of eyes!
Hope this was helpful, and let me know if you want me to do more of these!
If you use this, please tag me!! I'd love to see your human drawings!!
