Silmarillion Prompt #4: Falling into Darkness
Mairon was who Iru had created -- good, innocent . . . incorruptible. Mairon means "the admirable" in Old Tongue. And indeed, there was much to admire in Mairon -- him being probably the most powerful Maiar in Valinor notwithstanding.
He was the apprentice of Aulë the Smith, and under his tutelage, Mairon learned many things about forging and crafting, and became a gifted craftsman, and a master in the lore of his mentor's people.
His greatest virtue was his love of order and perfection -- his dislike of anything wasteful. However, unbeknownst to Mairon and the rest of the Valar and Maiar -- and virtually every living being residing in Valinor -- it will be this good virtue that will be the catalyst of his downfall.
Write in Mairon's (later called Sauron) POV. What are his thoughts concerning Morgoth/Melkor and of his (Mairon's) current circumstances? Why does he wish to side with Morgoth? What does he see in him that makes him think that he'll get what he desires much quicker than if he did it under his own power? Does Mairon dislike Morgoth and his ways at first, when he's still good, before he begins to change his mind to the Dark Side? How does his virtues cause him to fall into Darkness?

Author's Note: Mae Govannen, Mellyn! Here's a Silmarillion prompt for you! Finally! Sorry that I haven't been writing very many Silmarillion prompts; but to be fair, there aren't many things to do with the Silmarillion prompt-wise. At least, the parts of the Silmarillion that you guys would be interested in writing prompts for.
For this reason, I'll be staying mostly in the LOTR and Hobbit universes, as there's MUCH more content to choose from. If you guys would like to see more Silmarillion prompts, please help give me some suggestions and options so that I can post more of them. I'm not as well-versed in the Silmarillion as I do with the other books, so it'll be more difficult for me to come up with prompts that don't have anything to do with the OTPs. lol XD
Anyway, this prompt is about Sauron's beginnings before he turns into a "bad egg," as the saying goes. This was inspired by a comment that someone posted somewhere (I'm sorry if I don't remember you or where I found it) concerning Sauron and his origins after reading the Silmarillion. So props to them for the inspiration of this prompt.
Thank you for reading this and I hope you have an amazing week!
May the grace of the Valar protect you!
