The next right thing

This is for Eunice199701

Imagine that it's BOTFA and Tauriel can't bear to not have Kili. (It's a sad one so if you don't want a sad one skip over this)  Thank you for your patience. It's been crazy in the states

When Tauriel and Kili met, there was a beautiful bluebird outside that chirped right outside Kili's cell. Tauriel took it as a sign, that this was something to pursue more of.

FAST FORWARD

It was the battle of 5 armies, and Kili and Tauriel were fighting side by side. Suddenly, Tauriel hears a cry and sees a pool of blood forming on Kili's stomach.

"No!" Tauriel cried as she killed the rest of the enemies and rushing to Kili's side.  "Hang on Kili... we will save you....we just-" Tauriel scrambles for words that couldn't be formed.

"Darling, you cannot save me, but you can trust that I shall be going to a better place." Kili rasped.

"B-but I don't want you to go." Tauriel stammered as tears flowed down her cheeks. "I love you too much."

Kili smiled broadly. "That's all I need love, that's all I could ask for."

Tauriel spent the next few moments holding Kili before he took his last breath.  As that was happening, Thranduil approached with a soft look along with some of the dwarves to take Kili's body for the funeral.

Thranduil laid a hand on her shoulder. "Come my dear, the war is over, we are guests at the mountain and you need rest."

Tauriel looked at him with his outstretched hand and nodded. As she stood up, Thranduil put an arm around her shoulder in comfort

She sniffed back tears as she began to sing unknowingly out loud.

"I've seen dark before, but not like this. This is cold, this is empty this is numb. The life I knew is over the lights are out. Hello darkness I'm ready to succumb."

Thranduil escorted her to a room where he placed her in bed to rest. The next evening was the funeral of all the people who had passed, but most importantly, of the royal dwarves.

Tauriel had a restless night of sleep, one of despair, desperation, and giving up.

"A tiny voice whispers you are lost hope is gone, but you must carry on: and do the next right thing."

, but she felt herself collect herself. Kili wouldn't want her to give up . She didn't know how she was going to move forward, but it would start with her saying goodbye tomorrow. After all there was still the evil of Sauron still there she could help with that,

It  was the next evening and Thranduil held out an arm for Tauriel. "Are you ready?"

Tauriel modded, not wanting to say anything. They processed into the room. And she began to sing again.

"You've gone to a place I cannot find, This grief has a gravity, it pulls me down.-"

The funeral began with a procession of the Durins. Tauriel almost couldn't make it but she forced herself to look, for she wanted to see him as much as possible.

"I can't find my direction I'm all alone. I don't know anymore what is true, the only star that was guiding me was you. How to rise from the floor, when it's not you I'm rising for. Just do the next right thing."

It was time for her to say her goodbyes. Tauriel began to move up the aisle slowly, and before she knew it. She was in front of Kili.

"I'll miss you." She croaked her eyes blurring with tears. She couldn't take it anymore and ran out of the hall.

"So I'll walk through this night, stumbling blindly toward the light, and do the next right thing,  and with the dawn, what comes then?  When it's clear that nothing will ever be the same again, then I'll make the choice to hear the voice and do the next right thing."

She crumbled to the floor outside where no one could here her. As she dried her tears. She saw that the sun was coming up.

"I can move on. I can be good use for the people. There is still an evil force out there. I feel it." Tauriel talked to herself.  The sun rose higher and higher and a family of bluebirds came and landed on the branch next to her and sang their bird song.

"Hello Kili," Tauriel said softly, "I miss you."

Just then, Legolas came out and saw his dear friend. "Tauriel!! Are you okay?"

"I'm fine." She slightly smiled. "What can I do for you?"

"I just wanted to make sure you are okay. I know it was very tough for you." Legolas spoke with compassion. "How are you feeling?"

Tauriel nodded towards Legolas "I'm hurting obviously, but  things will get better. I know they will."

Legolas pondered a moment before speaking. "It's a sorrowful ending to a battle. So many good people died. "

Tauriel looked at the birds before speaking. "Yes, it is sad, but it is also a new beginning for Middle Earth. There is still an evil force in the world and it's up to the next generation to fight it."

Legolas smiled "Well speaking of the next generation fighting it, how do you feel about an adventure? I'm going to find answers about it, and I'm seeking a ranger who has knowledge of such things."

Tauriel grinned. "Of course. Who's going to be the one to save you?"

"That was one time!!" Legolas laughed as they both walked towards their horses.

Both of them were quiet as they saddled up for the long journey ahead. Finally; they both mounted their horses. Tauriel sat in thought as Legolas pulled out an item.

"What's that?" Tauriel asked

"Would you believe that I snuck this from the kitchen?" Legolas handed her one of her own. "Figured we could use it."

Tauriel laughed. Suddenly the blue bird popped up and landed on her shoulder.

"Goodbye little one." Tauriel murmured and turned to Legolas.

"What shall we toast to?" Legolas asked

"To new beginnings." Tauriel concludes.

They both whipped the reins as they began down the road towards their journey.
"And so the next right thing."

Thank you all for reading! I know it's crazy times but just remember that you are all so loved. You are worthy. And as much as you go through hardships- they aren't easy, there will be a reward at the end.
