Lostpaw scrambled out of the apprentices den. Her mother narrowed her eyes, stalking Maplestar, who was stretching in the moonlight, unaware of Devilclaw treating her like prey. Screeching, Lostpaw barreled into her mother, who yowled with surprise. Devilclaw snarled, jumping back with her fur bristling. "Why are you out here, Lostpaw?" She growled softly. Lostpaw narrowed her eyes. "You were stalking Maplestar like prey." Maplestar, who had been silent,spoke, "She was?" Her voice took a threatening edge to it. Lostpaw nodded, but her mother cuffed her over the ear. "That's not true at all! Lostpaw, how could you lie? I'm your mother, after all. Would you want to harm me?" Devilclaw whimpered. Lostpaw narrowed her eyes, looking for Maplestar's response. Maplestar flattened her ears. "I'll believe you Devilclaw... This time." Whipping around, Maplestar went back to her den, her tail lashing. Before Lostpaw could retreat into the apprentice's den, Devilclaw barreled into Lostpaw, taking her by surprise. Pinning her down, Devilclaw whispered fiercely, "Don't betray me like that ever again." Lostpaw began to protest, but her mother swiped her muzzle, blood splattering the area. Lostpaw flinched. Devilclaw snarled at Lostpaw before releasing her grip and padding away. Dazed, Lostpaw returns to her own nest.
