Friday Night

"Let's be honest here. In the past, we used to let other teams come into our town and roll right over us!" Tanner spoke to the crowed, his team waiting together patiently as the crowd boos. "But that is about to change."

Cheers erupt from the prospectors, "We've got great new talent tonight starting on the offense, and I'm gonna tell you right now, it has been a long time since I've seen kids like this with this much talent. Let's give it up for Stefan Salvatore and our very own Lyra Lockwood!"

Tyler kisses his sister's head and grinned at her proudly, earning a beaming smile from the elder girl.

"You've been waiting for us to put a check in the win column, I have only one thing to say to you.. Your Timber-wolves are hungry."

Lyra's grey-black hues met with piercing icy blue ones. They belonged to a man with dark black hair, pale skin, and a smirk laced with danger and ill-intentions.

Her attention was drawn away by a tap on her shoulder. "You sure you're up for this?" Stefan offered, looking at her with worry, she was about to answer, when a commotion gained their attention.

Lyra's gaze landed on her brother and Jeremy, and before Stefan could react, she bolted in their direction.

She got between the boys, shoving her brother away from the youngest Gilbert. "Hey, he's down! Enough!" Stefan exclaimed, grasping Tyler's wrist tightly, Lyra tried to calm her brother down, "Ty-Ty, come on. You can't keep doing this."

"Jeremy, no!"

Lyra turns, just in time to be able to shove Stefan and Tyler back as Jeremy swings. A hiss of pain left the blonde's lips as blood splattered heavily against the concrete floor.

Stefan goes rigid, he'd been able to hold himself back the first time he smelt her blood, but this time, with so much of it. It was difficult to say the least. "Damn, you're just all kinds of accident prone today, aren't you?" Matt mused, gently tugging the blonde jock away, "Let's get you patched up."

*************

"Lyra, hey.. you okay?" Stefan asks, "Where's Matt?" "I'm fine." she chirped, "Mama Matt left to go check up on, Tyler. Make sure he's not attacking Jeremy again."

Stefan let out a relieved sigh, "Good to hear. Are you gonna be able to play?" "Yeah, no problem." she beamed, she was so bright and innocent that just her mere presence could rival the stadium lights.

That's what attracted the Salvatore's to her.

"I'm gonna go make sure Tyler's behaving. See you on the field, Stef-Stef." she hummed, pecking his cheek before trotting away, the same skip in her step that was always there.

Stefan found himself touching the area she kissed, his undead heart pounded against his chest, and a smile tugging at his lips.

Lyra was happily jogging to her brother, her eyes lit up, and pink dusting her cheeks. "Ly-Ly, are you okay? Can you still play? Does it hurt?" Tyler fired at his older sister, inspecting her for anymore wounds.

"I'm fine, Ty-Ty. Pinkie swear!" she beamed, "We're gonna play soon, so get ready." he sighed softly in relief and kissed her cheek before tugging on his helmet.

*************

Lyra sighed, her small feet barely making sound against the concrete as she wondered down the town square. Cool, crisp air nipped at her pale skin, turning it a pinkish hue.

"Hey.. Lyra, right?" a deep voice drew the blonde's attention, she turned to the source, seeing a raven haired man, with striking icy blue eyes.

"Uh-huh." she nodded, "Who're you?" "I.. am very hungry." he smirked, lunging at the teen before she could react. She cried out in pain as she was slammed against a tree, the rough bark scraping at her skin, "Shh.. don't make a sound." he ordered, his smirk widening as he compelled the blonde.

Lyra unwillingly obeyed as he sunk his teeth into her neck. Her lips parted in a silent scream, which only encouraged him.

Her vision began to fade, all other sounds were drowned out by the slowing drum of her heart. Slowly, she lost function, until everything went black.

*************

Birds chirped as the sun rose, the air still cold and crisp. Nevertheless, people of Mystic Falls started their day.

However, it wasn't a normal day, for everyone in the police force, and even volunteers, searched for Lyra Lockwood. It was unheard of for the blonde to not check in with her parents if she wasn't going to be home, and it was even more unheard of for her to not answer her phone.

"We'll find her." Matt assured, patting Tyler's shoulder. The brunet nodded, not trusting his voice at the moment as they trudged through the woods.

"What's going on?" Stefan questioned, Elena at his side, both looking quite confused, "You.. didn't hear? Lyra's missing. She didn't come home last night." Matt answered, the Salvatore's eyes widened, "I'll help." he said instantly, Elena nodding, "Me too. I'll call Jer, Bonnie, and Caroline down to help too."

After receiving a nod, Elena walked off. Stefan gave Tyler a determined look, "I'll do whatever I can to help." "Th.. thanks, man." Tyler stammered out, clearing his throat, "I appreciate it."

Stefan strained his hearing and sense of smell for any sign of the bubbly girl. He heard the dogs, the other volunteers and officers.

The metallic scent of blood hit the bunny-eater like a freight train. He branched off from his two teammates, following the scent of blood. Barks and howls shot through the air, catching the attention of everyone.

Tyler and Matt exchanged looks before chasing after the sound, Tyler was ahead, pure adrenaline and fear rushing through his veins. He prayed with every fiber of his being that she was okay, that she was alive, that she wasn't another victim like Tanner.

"Lyra!" the younger Lockwood screamed, rushing to the officer that held his big sister. Her pale skin looking ghostly white, purple bruises littered her figure, dried blood stuck to her neck, bags hung under his eyes.

She looked dead. He thought she was dead. Everyone did, at first glance. However, her chest rose and fell in an arrhythmical beat.

"Get her to the ambulance!" the officer yelled, "I'll take her, I'm the fastest." Stefan said, Tyler wanted to protest, but it was true, and speed was the key to keeping her alive at this moment.

Lyra's brother and best friend nodded, allowing Stefan to take the blonde in his arms. He ran at an almost human pace, before using his vampiric speed.

"Please.. please be okay, Lyra."
