Hideaway

Biana P.O.V

"Where are we going?" I asked Ruy nervously as he marched forward purposefully. Ruy had been silent ever since he told me about Umber, or Wren (I didn't really know what to think of her yet) and he kept fidgeting as he walked. He was twisting his fingers and looking behind us nervously.

"Somewhere safe." He replied, not looking at me.

"Why don't you take me back to Everglen?" I asked. "All my friends are there and I can be safe there!"

"No," he said. "It's not safe. They'll expect you to go there."

"Then where are we going? There is nowhere safer than Everglen."

Ruy reached inside on his dark cloak and pulled out a light leaping crystal. I recognized it immediately. It was the crystal that Keefe had given to the Neverseen. It was the one that lead to Alluveture.

"How do you have that crystal?" I asked Ruy. "Keefe gave it to Alvar not you!"

"I stole it," Ruy said bluntly. "I stole it from him after he died. It was in his room."

"That's my brother you are talking about," I said softly. "And when did he die? How come we never knew?"

"Oh I forgot you didn't know," Ruy said coldly. "He died during one of our missions. It was when people didn't know we were back yet. Gethen killed him after he tried to slip a letter to Everglen."

"A letter?" I asked, confused. "We never got a letter."

"Do you think that Gethen would have let Alvar deliver that letter? He ripped it into pieces and threw it into the fireplace of Oralie's chambers."

"Why were you in Oralie's chambers?" I asked.

"What do you think?" Ruy asked, looking at me for the first time during our walk. "We were trying to kill her."

I froze in my steps and looked up at Ruy, but he had already turned his head around and gestured to me to grab his arm so we could travel to Alluveture.

"Hey! Not yet!" I said to Ruy. I grabbed him and made him turn around to face me. "What was in the letter? Why would you try and kill Oralie? And why, do you not realize that that's my brother your talking about?! You can't just talk about him and just not give me any information!"

Ruy looked down at me, long and hard. It should have been intimidating, as he was more then a head taller than me, but it wasn't, because I wasn't scared of him anymore.

"You still care about him, don't you," he said. It wasn't a question, it was more of a statement. "Even though he betrayed you."

"I don't!" I said, but I think that we both knew that that was a lie. "Answer my questions!"

Ruy raised his hands up in mock defeat and he gave a me a smirk. It was strange, seeing him smirk. The smirk was exactly like Keefe's, but his eyes looked so much like Tam's. It was sort of like a strange mishmash of boys that I liked, and it gave me a strange feeling. It really made me remember how much I missed them both. I wondered what they were doing. Keefe was now basically my brother, and Tam was....Tam. I cared about them more then I've cared about anyone that wasn't my blood family

Ruy's voice brought me back to reality. " I don't know what was in the letter. I don't know why we would kill Oralie, it was Gethen's idea. There, satisfied?"

Without giving me time to answer, he grabbed my arm and we light-leaped.

In a flash, we were in Alluveture. I suddenly got a flash of memories of how we spent our times back then. We were going to Exillium, we had been banned from Foxfire. I didn't even know who Tam and Linh were during this time. It was funny, as back then they had no impact on my life, and now I couldn't imagine a life without them.

"So, what am I supposed to do? Just stay here?" I asked Ruy. Ruy was absent-mindly staring around the room we had light-leaped into. I recognized it as the room that me and Sophie had stayed in together.

I peered out the window and saw the tree house that the boys had stayed in right across from us. Sophie had told me about her window sleepovers with Keefe, and I could see know, what she meant about how he had looked so close, and so far away at the same time.

"I guess," Ruy said slowly. He was still looking around the room in a cautious sort of way, like he was looking for something that wasn't there.

"Chill out then," I said. "Nobody knows that we're here. I'll be safe for now. Sit."

I patted the chair across from mine and Ruy sat down hesitantly. I rocked back and forth in the chair I was sitting in and leaned into the soft, plushy pillow. I froze suddenly and looked down at pillow I was sitting on. It was the one that Linh had given to me during her and Tam's short stay here. It was the same pillow that Tam had thrown at me during one of the pillow fights we had with everyone else during their short stay at Alluvettere. It was during that time that I really saw him, that I really, truly noticed him, the time when I realized how gorgeous his eyes were...

A/N: I know there probably was not a pillow fight at Alluvettere, but why not?

I shook my head and snapped out of it, dropping the pillow back onto my lap and looked at Ruy, who was sitting across from me staring at the door.

"Are you that eager to get away from me?" I asked, trying to tease him and lighten the mood. Ruy's head snapped away from the door and looked at me.

"Huh?" was his reply.

"Well, you were just looking at the door and staring at it really intensely, and, oh just forget it." I said.

We sat in silence and Ruy returned to staring, this time at the window. Soon, night fell and I curled up in the chair, and closed my eyes, still thinking about memories and moments that had happened here.

Suddenly, I was awoken to a shaking of my shoulders. I jerked awake and saw Ruy, his eyes panicked. "Get up, get up," he hissed quietly.

"Why? What's wrong-"

"Get UP," Ruy repeated and dragged me into a standing position.

"What's happening?" I asked again. "What's going on?"

"Listen, Biana, you have to go. You have to leave now. You can't go back to Everglen. Just stay in the forest, I'll find you there, quick you have to go. Don't let anybody see you-"

"Ruy! I thought for a second that you would have chickened out and let her escape, but I see you haven't! Good job!" said a voice, and Ruy froze. My eyes widened and I turned around to see a blond elf with piercing blue eyes and a crescent shaped scar on his hand.

Gethen.

He strolled over and I grabbed Ruy's cape. "Ruy! Do something! Ruy...?"

Ruy just stood there, with a defeated expression on his face as Gethen approached us. Gethen reached out and grabbed my wrist, and I screamed as I felt his mind penetrate mine. Not again.. not again, not again....

I watched in horror as Gethen smiled and patted Ruy on the shoulder. "Nice job bringing her here. I thought you would have let her go, but it was a good thing you kept the tracker in your Imparter. I thought you would have betrayed the plan."

Then, he turned to me. "Ruy played a very nice part you see. I see that you actually thought he wanted to help you! Ha!" he then laughed, and the sound was terrible and horrifying.

"Ruy, we have good news." Gethen said, turning to Ruy and keeping a firm grip on my wrist and my mind. "We have captured the Sencen boy and Mr. Song. I have big plans for them."

"Tam?" I asked weakly.

"Yes Ms. Vacker, we have Mr. Song," Gethen replied wickedly. "Well, we only have Mr. Sencen technically. Tam Song is dead."

Something inside me broke and shattered into a million pieces. It was hard to breathe and I clutched my chest, as every breath was hard to take. I lowered my head in defeat, and right before I blacked out, I saw Ruy, standing next to Gethen, not doing anything, and following him out the door. As I passed him, I whispered to him.

"I trusted you," I said, through tears. "I actually sort of cared about you. I.. I can't believe you. Was all of it fake? Everything?"

Ruy didn't respond and he turned away from me.

"Was it all fake?" I asked again, tears welling in my eyes. "Was Wren fake? Was Tam's escape fake?  Was it- was it- all just a trick?!"

He didn't respond and simply walked out the door. I was dragged along by Gethen, who grinned one last time at me before the blackness hit me.

Sorry for taking so long for updating! What do you guys think about Ruy now? Sorry if this chapter was a little bit meh, but I didn't have a very strong idea. I knew what was gonna happen, but after re reading through this chapter, it's not very entertaining to read. Sorry!!!

Thanks for reading!
