Chapter 29

The first rays of dawn crept through the curtains, painting the room in a soft golden hue. Jungkook stirred, his consciousness pulling him from the depths of sleep before his body fully followed. His arm was numb, weighed down by the warmth still curled against him.

Sanjana.

She was still asleep, her face peaceful, her breathing slow and steady. Her dark lashes fanned over her cheeks, her lips slightly parted. Jungkook’s chest tightened at the sight.

She actually slept.

A part of him wanted to stay like this forever—her in his arms, the world outside irrelevant. But the moment he shifted slightly, trying to ease the stiffness in his shoulder, her breath hitched.

Her brows furrowed, her fingers twitching against his chest before her eyes flew open—wide, panicked, disoriented.

"Shh," Jungkook murmured instantly, his hand coming up to cradle the back of her head, fingers threading through her hair. "It's just me. Go back to sleep."

Her pulse was wild under his touch, her body rigid for a moment before his voice, low and grounding, seeped into her senses. She blinked up at him, confusion flickering in her gaze before exhaustion won, and she exhaled, melting back into him.

Jungkook waited until her breathing evened out again before carefully reaching for his phone on the bedside table. His movements were slow, deliberate, not wanting to disturb her.

Unlocking it, he quickly typed out a message in the group chat:

"Sanjana’s sleeping. If anyone makes even a slightest noise, I’ll break their legs."

The responses came almost instantly.

Jimin: Wow, protective much? But, no offense, my cupcake deserves rest. Let her sleep peacefully.

Namjoon: Noted. We’ll keep it down. For my Fairy.

Jin: Someone’s whipped, huh!! Nice to see it. You dont disturb her. Ok!!

Jungkook ignored them, locking his phone and setting it aside. His fingers brushed against Sanjana’s arm, tracing idle patterns as he watched her sleep.

Taehyung read the message, his jaw clenching and mind processing,
'Of course Jungkook had to be the one.'

The thought burned in his chest like acid. He had watched for weeks—how Jungkook hovered around Sanjana, how his eyes darkened whenever someone else got too close, how he acted like he owned her.

And now he was in "room "...!!

Taehyung’s fingers tightened around his phone.

No, no, no, he might have checked her.

He wasn’t going to let Jungkook win this. Not when he thought HE was the one and only who truly cared for her. Not when HE was the one who noticed the shadows under her eyes first, who wanted to be the one to soothe her.

A plan formed in his mind.

Breakfast.

He’d bring her breakfast in bed—something warm, something comforting. He’d make sure she woke up to his...her Taehyungiee's kindness, not Jungkook’s possessive hovering.

Taehyung moved quietly through the kitchen, preparing her favorite—pancakes with honey, fresh fruit, and a steaming cup of chamomile tea. He hummed under his breath, a forced calmness masking the storm inside him.

Jimin walked in, raising an eyebrow. "Since when do you cook this early?"

Taehyung didn’t look up. "Since I felt like it."

Jimin leaned against the counter, studying him. "You’re doing this for Sanjana, aren’t you?"

Taehyung’s hands stilled for a fraction of a second before he continued plating the food. "So what if I am?"

Jimin sighed. "Tae… you know how Jungkook is about her."

Taehyung’s grip on the plate tightened. "Yeah. I know. He acts like she’s 'His' property."

Jimin hesitated. "And you don’t?"

Taehyung finally looked up, his eyes blazing. "I care about her. There’s a difference."

Jimin held his hands up. "Alright, alright. Just… be careful, yeah?"

Taehyung scoffed, grabbing the tray and walking out.

The hallway was silent as Taehyung approached Sanjana’s room. He balanced the tray carefully, nudging the door open with his foot as he knew she never locks the door.

"Sanjana…" he whispered, stepping inside. "Your Taehyungie came with breakf—"

His voice died in his throat.

There, on the bed, tangled together in a way that left no room for misinterpretation, was JUNGKOOK and SANJANA. Her face was buried in his chest, his arms wrapped possessively around her waist, their breathing synchronized as if they were one.

Jungkook’s eyes snapped open, dark and dangerous, locking onto Taehyung with a glare that could melt steel.

Taehyung’s blood turned to ice. Then fire.

“WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING HERE, JUNGKOOK?” The words erupted before he could stop them, his voice laced with something dangerously close to betrayal. Taehyung's grip on the breakfast tray tightened for a fleeting moment before, in a sudden burst of frustration, he hurled it to the ground. The sound of shattering porcelain echoed through the room, the remnants of the meal scattering across the floor like broken pieces of his own restraint.

Sanjana jolted awake with a gasp, her body jerking upright, her breath coming in sharp, panicked bursts. Sweat beaded at her temples, her eyes wide with fear.

Jungkook reacted instantly, pulling her back against his chest, his arms wrapping around her protectively. "Shh, it's okay," he murmured into her hair, his voice a stark contrast to the venom in his glare at Taehyung.

Jungkook, who had instantly pulled her closer at the first sign of distress, shot Taehyung a murderous glare. “Are you out of your damn mind?” he hissed, his voice dangerously low as he held Sanjana protectively. “Look what you just did.”

"Sanjana, I—I didn’t mean to—" Taehyung stammered, stepping forward, his heart pounding.

"GET. OUT." Jungkook’s voice was a thunderous growl, raw with fury.

Taehyung clenched his fists. “She needs to eat—”

“She needs peace,” Jungkook snapped, his patience wearing dangerously thin. “Which you just took from her. Now get the hell out.”

Taehyung’s hands trembled at his sides. His carefully thought-out plan, his desperate attempt to be the one she looked to first, had shattered before his eyes. The agony clawed at his chest, his vision blurring with a whirlwind of frustration and heartbreak. But he didn't moved from there.

But Jungkook’s final warning came sharper, colder. “Taehyung. Out. Now.”

The words left no room for argument. He wanted to argue. Wanted to scream. Wanted to rip Jungkook away from her.  But the way she clung to him —the way she sought his comfort—shattered something inside Taehyung.

With one last glance at Sanjana—who was still tucked in Jungkook’s arms, too shaken to move—Taehyung took a staggering step back. His throat tightened, but he swallowed it down, forcing himself to turn away.

As he stepped outside, the hallway was eerily silent.

But then he saw them.

The rest of the members were standing there, wide-eyed, having heard everything. Namjoon, Yoongi, Hoseok, Jin—all of them watching as Taehyung emerged, his expression a storm of emotions he couldn’t contain.

The weight of it all crashed down at once, suffocating him.

Without another word, Taehyung shoved past them, his steps unsteady as he stormed toward his room. The second the door slammed shut behind him, he let out a breath he didn’t realize he’d been holding.

The pain was unbearable.

Because no matter what he did—no matter how much he tried to prove himself—

Sanjana had already chosen Jungkook.

And Jungkook had won.
