Chapter 27

Jungkook’s eyes followed Sanjana like a shadow, never straying too far. It had only been a few hours since their confession about their shared struggle with sleeplessness, but something had shifted within him. His concern, once a silent worry, had now become an obsession.

Sanjana barely had the chance to move without him noticing.

“Did you take your medicine?” Jungkook asked for what felt like the fifth time that morning.

Sanjana sighed, putting down her spoon. “Yes, Jungkook, I did.”

He didn’t look convinced. “With water? Or did you just swallow it dry?”

Her lips parted in disbelief. “Are you serious right now?”

He crossed his arms. “Water helps it absorb better.”

She let out a small laugh, shaking her head. “Jungkook, I’m not a child.”

“That’s debatable,” he muttered under his breath before turning to Hobi, who had just entered the room. “Hobi, are you sure there isn’t anything stronger she can take?”

Hobi sighed heavily, rubbing his temple. “Jungkook, I told you already. We can’t give her heavy medication when her body is already weak. She needs proper rest, not just medicine.”

Jungkook’s jaw tightened. “Then what else can we do?”

Hobi frowned. “I understand you’re worried, but you need to trust me. I’m doing everything I can.”

Jungkook scoffed. “It’s not enough.”

Sanjana’s eyes widened at his tone. “Jungkook!”

Hobi’s expression darkened. “Excuse me?”

Jungkook exhaled sharply, rubbing the back of his neck. “I just—” He looked at Sanjana, his gaze filled with frustration and helplessness. “I just want her to get better.”

Hobi’s shoulders relaxed slightly, but his voice remained firm. “And pushing yourself like this won’t help her.”

Sanjana reached for Jungkook’s hand, squeezing it gently. “I will be getting better,” she assured him. “You just need to give it time.”

Jungkook wanted to believe her. He really did. But the circles under her eyes told a different story.

By the time lunch rolled around, Taehyung had already noticed the change in Jungkook’s behavior.

Jungkook barely ate, too busy making sure Sanjana finished her food. If she so much as hesitated, he would nudge her spoon closer or give her a look that left no room for negotiation.

“Eat,” Jungkook ordered, his voice leaving no room for argument.

Sanjana pouted. “I am eating.”

“Not fast enough.”

Taehyung, who had been watching the entire exchange, smirked. “Wow, Sanjana, I didn’t know you got yourself a personal health inspector.”

Jungkook shot him a glare. “Mind your own business, Taehyung.”

Taehyung’s smirk widened as he leaned back in his chair. “It’s hard not to notice when you’re hovering over her like a mother hen.”

Jungkook ignored him, placing an extra piece of chicken on Sanjana’s plate. “Eat this too.”

Sanjana sighed but complied, taking a small bite.

Taehyung chuckled. “You know, Sanjana, if you ever get tired of Jungkook’s nagging, you can always come to me. I promise I won’t force-feed you like he does.”

Sanjana laughed, covering her mouth. “Tempting offer.”

Jungkook’s grip on his fork tightened.

Taehyung noticed.

His eyes flickered between the two, and suddenly, something clicked.

Jungkook wasn’t just worried.

He cared.

More than he was willing to admit.

And from the way Sanjana’s eyes softened whenever she looked at Jungkook, from the way she didn’t push him away despite his overbearing concern… she was starting to feel the same.

Taehyung’s playful smirk faltered slightly. But still not even in thought to let it go.

As the evening went on, Jungkook showed no signs of letting up. If anything, his concern only grew stronger. He reminded Sanjana about her medicine again, adjusted the pillows on the couch to make sure she was comfortable, and even went as far as bringing her warm tea without her asking.

Taehyung had seen enough.

“You’re being ridiculous,” he finally said, watching as Jungkook fussed over Sanjana’s blanket.

Jungkook shot him an annoyed look. “I don't care.”

Taehyung folded his arms. “She’s not dying, Jungkook. Let her breathe.”

The room fell silent.

Jungkook’s expression changed instantly.

Sanjana gasped as she saw the raw emotion flash across his face—pain, anger, and something deeper, something uncontrollable.

And before anyone could react, Jungkook was on his feet, his hand wrapping tightly around Taehyung’s throat as he slammed him back against the wall.

A sharp gasp escaped Sanjana’s lips.

“Jungkook!” she cried, rushing toward them.

But Jungkook didn’t move. His grip didn’t loosen.

His breathing was ragged, his chest heaving with every furious inhale. His eyes, dark and stormy, burned with unspoken rage as he glared into Taehyung’s widened ones.

“Say that again,” Jungkook growled, his voice dangerously low. “Dare to say that again, Taehyung.”

Taehyung’s jaw tightened, but he didn’t struggle. His hands remained at his sides, not pushing Jungkook away.

Not yet.

“You think this is a joke?huh” Jungkook seethed, his grip tightening just slightly. “You think I’m just being dramatic? Yes you could think that because you are one being dramatic.”

Sanjana grabbed Jungkook’s arm, her voice trembling. “Jungkook, stop—”

Jungkook didn’t move. His gaze never left Taehyung’s.

“You don’t know what it’s like,” Jungkook spat. “To watch someone suffer, to be so fucking scared that they’ll just—” His voice cracked slightly, but he swallowed hard, regaining control. “You don’t get to say that, Taehyung. You don’t get to joke about this. Don't get to joke about her. Don't dare to joke about my Sanjana. Do you fucking understand that, rascal huh...!!!”

Taehyung stared at him, his eyes darkening with something unreadable.

And then, slowly, he raised his hands—not to fight back, but to grip Jungkook’s wrists, prying them off his throat.

Jungkook let go, stepping back, his breathing uneven. His hands shook at his sides.

Sanjana immediately grabbed his arm, pulling him toward her. “Jungkook, look at me.”

His jaw clenched, but he turned, his eyes meeting hers.

She swallowed hard, placing her hands on either side of his face. “I’m right here. I’m not going anywhere.”

Jungkook exhaled sharply, his head falling forward as he closed his eyes.

Taehyung rubbed his throat, his gaze unreadable as he watched the two of them.

For the first time, he saw it clearly.

This wasn’t just concern.
This wasn’t just care.
Jungkook loved her.
And Sanjana… she was starting to love him back.

But that didn’t mean Taehyung was going to step back.
Not now. Not ever.
