The End
The year 2009
"Yoongi, you need to make time for this. It's not everyday that a person gets a non-fiction book as a number one bestseller." Namjoon, his college friend and his confidante all these years, was screaming into Yoongi's ear over the phone.
Yoongi was the youngest published author to have his Book "Ethics, Morality, Business and Changing with the Times" inculcated in the curriculum of ivy league colleges across USA and UK. His book was also recognised as the best seller in non-fiction - a first for South Korea. Thus he was invited to the awards function, which he was about to decline. Namjoon knew his friend well.
"I am rescheduling all my classes, my students are begging me not to go, and I am coming there just for you, and you have the guts to tell me that you might not go?" Namjoon scolded Yoongi.
"Fine, hyung I will go. I don't like to fly, you know why." Yoongi said knowing there was no way out.
"Don't worry, Yoongi. Jimin is there with you now. And now technology is better, or have you forgotten?" Namjoon said reassuringly.
That year was the first of the many many many award functions Yoongi and Namjoon attended together.
It had also been seven years since Yoongi and Jimin were living together. No one, no one worthy enough to know (let's put it that way) had asked them about the situation. The bickering and domesticity that kept increasing on a daily basis was proof enough that they weren't just roommates. Nor were they still living together because Jimin had nowhere to go. Yes it was built on their love for Aehyun, that was still a major part of them, but at the heart of their bond was their love for each other. It wasn't love at first sight, it wasn't loud, it wasn't announced. There was no need for that. Their love was felt. Felt by them, felt by everyone around them.
Aehyun took five minutes to figure that out when both of them visited him at the end of 2003. He was the only one who teased them about it.
Jungkook, it was a surprise for everyone to see, loved Jimin. There was no connection they had, but JImin had a much lesser rather negligible resistance from Jungkook.
Jimin didn't leave a single chance to tease Yoongi about it by repeating it multiple times. "It's just because he doesn't see you as a threat, Park Jimin. Thank me for that!" was Yoongi's retort and stand.
==========
The year 2015
This was when all of them spent quite some time together at the care facility. The occasion was a sombre one - 85-year-old Ahjussi had passed on. He had left the running of administration and trust of the facility to the joint custody of Taehyung, Jungkook and Hoseok.
Hoseok had to be brought back into the facility. Yoongi and Jimin had played a key role in getting him to agree and accept.
Hoseok was pleasantly surprised to see the Jungkook he saw now, standing in front of him.
The shorts had given way to pants, with a neatly tucked in shirt. He had a beautiful black sweater vest over it. His doe eyes looked even more adorable through the spectacles he now wore. The greys of his hair, especially the sideburns made Hoseok chuckle. "Jungkook has grown so much," he said aloud only to hear a "He sure has," from Min Yoongi and Park Jimin in unison.
This wasn't the boy he used to help out. This wasn't the boy who needed Hoseok to tie his shoelaces. This was a 45+ year old man, centred, with an aura of authority. He didn't look around frantically. If he looked distracted anytime, it was because he was looking at Taehyung, without blinking.
Taehyung, who was playing with the kids in the garden and Jungkook could never look away. The smile on Jungkook's face matched the absolutely beautiful and innocent smiles of the children in the garden. He could stare at Taehyung like that for hours, and you bet he did that. For hours.
Or it was Taehyung, teaching sign languages to kids with speech-impairment. Those batches always had their inside jokes with Taehyung. Jungkook couldn't allow that to happen, could he? So he started to learn it too and now after ten odd years, he was quite a pro in reading it. He couldn't sign that well, but he was happy that he understood those jokes. That was the ultimate goal anyway.
What no one needed to know was their own inside jokes. Which still was a language no one had been able to crack. When Taehyung and Jungkook used to sit together, and giggle, everyone wondered what one said and what the other understood. This was their secret language. And no one needed to know.
"Yoongi, we are getting married. Jungkook wants a wedding." Yoongi had received a text from Taehyung.
==========
So it was in 2016 that they all got together again. The occasion this time was much happier than the last time.
Jungkook and Taehyung had been invited to many weddings in the neighbourhood and even in neighbouring towns. These were weddings of either the kids who had lived at 'You Matter' and gone back to families or some family members of theirs.
But now Jungkook wanted his own. His own wedding, with the entire jingbang. A musical band, clothes, decorations, and whatnot. Taehyung tried to make him understand that they had already been married once when he gave the ring to Jungkook, but it was never easy to get him to change his mind if he had set it to something.
After nagging Taehyung for a year, Jungkook got his wedding. And that too, with proper invitation cards being sent out. He was on top of the RSVPs they received. The decoration was outsourced. And Jungkook was completely involved in everything.
All this while, Taehyung kept thinking about how he could surprise Jungkook. He didn't need to, but then again, he didn't need to do many of the things he did in the last twenty years.
Boseong to Incheon thankfully had flights now, which Yoongi and Jimin could afford very well. Jimin, in fact, was the busier one, managing the entire publication, distribution, and contracts for Yoongi as an author. Yoongi was indebted to the way he had just seamlessly managed to take control of it. He even joked that he wouldn't ever be able to write as many books as he did if Jimin wasn't managing that side of the business.
At the facility, everything was going like clockwork thanks to Hoseok and Jungkook but Taehyung was still struggling with the surprise.
"I need your help with something, " Taehyung told Yoongi and Jimin when they visited next. "It's been more than 20 years now, I don't even know if it still happens, but I need it."
"Don't worry, Aehyun. Even if it doesn't, we will make it happen." Jimin had reassured him. "Do you need anything else?"
"Yes, but that Hoseok can easily help with." Taehyung smiled back.
*************************************
The wedding day arrived. No one knew about rituals and customs, but the best part was, no one present there cared about those. What everyone cared about was - Are Taehyung and Jungkook happy?
And they were. They were the happiest anyone ever saw them.
Taehyung was happy, but his happiness reached its peak when Hoseok changed the song to "Bring back my Bonnie to me," and Jungkook turned to Taehyung like he could see no one else. He turned straight towards Taehyung to tell him that his song was playing. Taehyung didn't need to be told because Jungkook's face said everything he needed to know.
At one point, towards the late evening, Jungkook looked tired and started to walk towards their room, but Taehyung stopped him by catching a hold of his elbow. Then he pointed towards the staircase leading to the bigger garden.
Jungkook kept blinking and looking at Taehyung, as he could see nothing, except Yoongi standing there. Taehyung then gestured something to Yoongi and suddenly the visuals started appearing from the stairs. It was a set of performers. They had similar clothes, jewellery, and dances to the ones they took shelter in Gwangju. Jungkook looked happy that time, so Taehyung wanted to recreate it for him. Just to show him that his happiness mattered above anything else.
Jungkook chose the party favors. Hoseok had explained to him that everyone invited would gift them something so it was only logical that they keep some favours as returns.
Each pack had a packet of balloons, some origami papers, glitter, and some markers. Hoseok didn't interfere in that. He was touched that Jungkook understood the meaning of returns and had packed everything on his own with a lot of love and care.
The final contribution to each pack was a beautiful heart-shaped balloon with the end of the string tied to the pack and an origami bird with a smiley sticker. Jungkook made each of those birds by hand as well.
When Taehyung saw it at the wedding party, he kept looking at Jungkook with pride, with love, and with endearment. In the bond they had nurtured carefully and lovingly over many years, Jungkook meant everything to Taehyung.
Every emotion he had felt throughout his life was for Jungkook, all his heartbeats were meant for him, and so was every breath. Was that love? Maybe. Maybe.
